The 'Smokn' Aces' Squadron Membership Thread

Hey all - With spring around the corner it's time to rejuvenate this squadron. For the CO people, word from the mods is that CO will break off of the Dragon Squadron and be solely in Zero instead of both, which gives us a home if we want it (other than a really long AnyTopic thread in local events). I'd bet the same is true for Utah, but not sure? They have the same problem, Dragon or Zero. DanQ said he'd sticky a thread for us to record membership and help restart the Zero squadron. Don't know that we need officers (unless you want to be one) or patches or secret handshakes at this point, but it would be cool to see who's in the area and wants to get together for rides n trackdays n such. Seemed like there was more than that just on the old CO thread. There is a little bit of confusion going on, which hopefully I can clear up. The squadrons have been around for several years, although in recent years they have been a little neglected. Every year for the past many years there is a Convention of R1-Forum and R6-Forum, and more recently, anyone who wants to attend the event at Deals Gap on the NC/TN border. That's great if you are near by. But what if you aren't? There are phenomenal places to go, hang out, ride, etc all over the country. The squadrons have taken the country and broke it down by region. This can allow everyone to have a region, and plan things to do within that region. Planning starts with communication and coordination, so here we are. There are also some long running local threads intended for the people in that local area. Miami has one, Colorado has another, and NC has a localized for the coastal area (where I live). Now, there are local things that everyone does (BBQs, Bike Nights, etc) that are, and will continue to be listed in those threads. However, when I post that I'm going to Hooters in Jacksonville NC, it is intended for those folks in the local area. I don't expect that an outpouring of people from Jacksonville FL will be attending, even though they are Venom Squadron (which Jacksonville NC is part of). So they probably aren't interested. I post that in NC riders, sup (the thread we've had running for a couple years). If I am going with a group of people to the motorcycle races in Homestead Miami, I would look towards Venom Squadron and meet up with them hopefully. And seeing as we've been communicating and becoming friends all along through the squadron Forum, we stand a good chance of meeting, hanging out etc. This specific squadron is not intended to take away ANYTHING from the Colorado riders thread. It is for the area of Idaho, Colorado, Montana, and Utah. Collectively. Get to know one another, plan to try to meet, share the events taking place close to you that may be worth attending. Have fun. And the tone and focus is set by the CO you elect. Rules that apply everywhere else on this Forum exist here, but the content is run primarily by the CO and the officers chosen to assist in organization. The Colorado Thread, NC Thread, Miami Thread and all other local meeting and event efforts continue to live on. The squadron just allows you to look a little broader and be a part of what else is nearby. And most of all, it's another way to interact, meet people, do motorcycle things and have fun! :thumbup I hope this clarifies some. If not, please let me know.

CO is not florida for bike night meets, but we have some of the best roads I believe in the US to ride.... small group as of now but there are a bunch of large track groups that get together now and then to go out.....

I'm not a fan of the whole bike night scene...to many ripped jeans and enlarged egos. We used to have a pretty good group that was regular on rides but that hasn't happened in a while and that's what I really want to do, piling up 300-400 mile weekends is more my thing.

That is the kind of riding I do! 120 in the canyons is fun but not with all the sand on the roads this time of year! would rather start early meet somewhere for breakfast and ride to Bishops Castle or take off and get lunch in Estes Park. Let me know when you want to go.

I'm going to have to recalibrate my ride mileage a little bit, here in the Sunshine-muggy-as-hell-State we have to ride 50 miles between 2 mile curvy sections. There are NO good roads. After doing the Gap for the first time last spring I'm just jonesing for some canyons, but the long scenic cruises are a lot of fun too.

The gap itself is cool, just super crowded (don't even attempt on a Sat or Sun) and the cops have really stepped up their assholeness the last couple years. Still, we spent 5 days up there and only rode "the Gap" twice, there are just a ton of good roads in that area.

Why isn't Wyoming included in our squadron? they are between CO and Idaho and below Montana so........ We need to include Wyoming in our squadron, honestly it is more likely for us to hook up and do a squadron event with someone in Wyoming than it is with someone in Montana, and if we did have a group meet then Wyoming would kind of be the middle ground for all the squadron members.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm kind of new. I just got my R1 in February, but I already have about 1500 mi on it. It was a little intimidating at first, but I got used to it fairly quickly. I already added Graves CF with a y-pipe, a power commander, -1+2 gears, BMC air filter, and a speedo healer. It's been great fun so far except when my pseudo son-in-law got pulled over on 115 and got 20 points worth of tickets. Does anyone know a good lawyer for Canon City? I don’t really want to put the whole story in writing in a public forum, but I’ll tell you about it over a beer someday.

I used a guy in the springs who actually rides bikes as well. got me from a 12 pt down to 2..... costly but, it was worth it, wish I still had the info. Canyon city cops are notorious for being ass holes...... we had one follow a group ride for about 5 miles last year through the mountains at 35mph.... ended up pulling over

In this case it was the state patrol. They said they couldn't read his proof of insurance so they gave him a ticket for no insurance. It was BS. They also gave him a ticket for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle which was also BS. He pulled over as soon as he saw them. I think they were just taking it out on him since they didn't catch me or the other guy. We didn't see them after us. We're planning to take it to court. I think we can get most of it dropped, but probably not everything.

Well in that case I would take it to court and have him show as well. If his insurace was valid that will be dropped instantly, even if they can't read it. In CO now they can look that up on their system on site..... search around for a good lawyer and I'm sure somehow the fella I went through will pop. A ton have used him in the springs. Have a good case and rebuttal set for the emergency vehicle and if you can claim he was not riding with you guys.... from sounds of the story. Wish Jeremy was on here still, he is our ticket safety.... they always pull him over no matter what:lol

I don't know Jeremy, but we could have used him that day. I really don't think we were speeding by much, but it seems they look extra close on sportbikes. We'll look around for a lawyer. I think he's scheduled to appear later this month or early May. We're planning to plead not guilty and get a court date for a trial. Hopefully we can get a lawyer by then. He doesn't really have much money, but he can't afford to lose his license either. I'll probably have to help him out a little with cost.

Sucks to hear man, you're right though, it's VERY worth it to go into debt to avoid those infractions. Good luck to him.

I do missile maintenance out at the sites. I've been here since Feb of '06, got my R1 in the Spring of '07. I had the '05 Raven R6 before that. Cheyenne is (insert comment here). I'm not a huge fan... I'm sure I'll be seeing you guys when the weather decides to quit being such a whore for old man winter. I live down by the Citadel, but I work at some offices on Briargate Parkway by the shops at Briargate. I usually start work at about 8AM on the weekdays and get off about 4:30, but I usually have off on the weekends. I'm definitely interested in getting in some riding. Just give me a shout whenever you want to get together for a ride, at night I prefer the city, less deer to hunt, but during the day taking off to monument for a soda, or rush for some pie, anything like that, short rides , long rides whatever. 719-432-8652 Lee

Well looks like I have another week here in the states, I will not be leaving til NEXT tuesday.... Thinking about making the trip to Denver to get the bike... hhhmmm... Weather is going to be shitty (FYI i am I Air Force Weather guy so if you need to know the weather, I know better than those tools on TV) the next few days so I don't know... Looking at about 2 feet going over the palmer divide... Don't feel like pulling the truck and trailer. Also, FYI I do have a fully enclosed trailer here in the springs so if anybody needs a bike moved or anything just hit me up.

Best tire out there...... however I got to sport some Dunlop slicks this past weekend that I was really impressed with... almost dumped the racebike out of the pits due to familiarity with the steep profile they have.... still have 8 sets of pirelli slicks to smoke through though.

Are you running the Corsa or the Corsa III, the Corsa III did not seem to last long enough so I am considering other options, I also have a 100 mile commute every day and generally put 3000 miles a month on the bike. From what I have seen from the Corsa III I would need a new rear every month.

From what I have seen from the Corsa III I would need a new rear every month. I have Corsas for the daily riding in the Spring and Fall, and Super Corsas for the summer. The Corsas are a harder compound, while the Supers are mediums. The supers don't like the low temps on the road, but love the summer pavement. Haven't tried the III series yet. I love what I got, so if it ain't broke....

I'm still getting used to yammy - just bought it begining of July. I used to take some cross country trips on my Viffer - just curious to see if anyone here has taken any decent trips on theirs. If I'm easy on the throttle, I can get about 150 miles to a tank of gas, it's just not very fun!

I've done a trip up to Yellowstone National Park and back, got about 60mpg cruising at 80mph on my 04.

Laguna Seca and back, spent a week out there on PCH went to pismo, big sur, the valley, San Fran, Malibu, Topanga canyon, and a bunch or back country rides.

I was going to go to Caldonia's tonight to see Rick Grosse's R7, but my girlfriend is in the hospital, so it doesn't look like I'll be going anywhere tonight. Are you on CSC?
