mattballs21 03-26-2009, 08:36 PM I was just wondering about a thing or 2, If you look at the low mount exhausts for the bike, they want about $1600 for them, now would it be possible to just buy an r6 exhaust and find a way to mount it? I am not a cheap person, but after shelling out $13k for the bike, I just want something temporary for exhaust sound, I dont care about add. hp or torque, just want something that takes away the sound of it stock, it actually sounds like a hooked up vespa.
Any help?
In theory it would work, only thing is drilling a hole for the o2 sensor. Let me know what you guys think
drjak 03-26-2009, 10:02 PM Adding noise without power is dumb. If you can't afford a proper exhaust for the bike right now work on the suspension. Rarely can someone set sag correctly front and rear on a stock bike. In fact suspension is more important than power so why not get that sorted out rather than do the fart can thing?
mattballs21 03-27-2009, 11:19 PM I wouldn't mind adding power too, the thing is think about it, I really like the low mount exhaust, graves sells one for $1600, if you look at the set up, they are ass raping you for the exhaust system, its not that I am trying to cut corners, but y pay 1600 for an exhaust when you can probably buy an r6 exhaust and make a few minor mods to it and have it work, I could understand paying that much for a dual muffler, like on my 05 r1 I paid $1700 for the akras', which is fine, but for a low mount exhaust, come on, I am saving my money now for a the marchesni gold rims, I already bought the k&n filter and power commander, waiting for the velocity stacks to come out, and going to add steel brake lines soon, it was just a question to see if someone else thought it was possible.
thanks for your time in responding
KingOfdaJungLe 03-28-2009, 12:32 AM it shouldnt work, the headers wrap differantly im sure. Even draining the oil on the 09 r1 is differant. So were there might be clearance to pass on the r6 it would not be on the r1.
Chingo Bling!! 03-28-2009, 08:43 PM It can be done. you dont even have to go modding up an r6 exhaust. there are several componies that make "supersport" style pipes for the r1. just to be clear you are looking for a little shorty pipe the just sticks out the bottom right? if thats the case then yes you can get one. even if you want the r6 pipe to save cost it still can be done. a friend of mine has an 07 r1 and he fitted a 07 r6 two brothers pipe with a few pipe clamps and some lite welding. anything can be done as far as metal fabrication goes man just takes a little more inginuity in some cases than others.
mattballs21 03-29-2009, 09:03 PM you said with a little welding? what if i can find somone to bend pipes, I figure if I bought an r6 pipe then I had it bent it to the right about 20 degrees, now the only issues can I can foresee would be the mounting bracket, which is probably going to have to be welded, and the o2 sensor, which all I would have to do is find a nut that fits the o2 sensor, weld it onto the pipe and drill it out, so that fixs that issue, I am just looking to make this bike have more low end power, it seems that it has low end torque with almost no power and about 6k it starts to get more hp.
Chingo Bling!! 03-31-2009, 07:47 PM If you are after bottom end grunt the easiest way to get that is changing out your sprockets. The typical change is -1 in the front and +2 in the back. You will feel a difference off the line but you will also be lacking in the top end power. Another quick fix is to get an ignition advance rotor. I put a +4 degree rotor on my 03 r6 and gained about 5hp right away. and you can feel it! the nice thing about that is that it costs you about $25 and maybe 15 min. of your time to put it on. you might have to wait a little bit for someone to make one but it shouldnt take long.
As far as your exhaust situation is concerned the r6 exhaust is so short not much support would be needed. The ideas you described are definately worth a shot. just out of curiousity what kind of exhaust were you looking into?
mattballs21 04-03-2009, 07:28 PM I was looking to go with 2 bros or akra, I have found the dualy on ebay for 700, I might just go with that so i don't have to deal with the bullshit, i was just thinking of saving the 14-15 lbs the full exhaust holds. So a friend of mine has a guy that bends pipes and we are going to go over there for a little and screw around, and I also have a stock pipe from an 07 r6 that friend of mine has so I can try a dry run on that without ever shelling out top dollars and see where that takes me.
Thanks for everyone who posted.

N8s09R1 05-03-2009, 12:56 PM I took my 2bros xhaust 4m my '06 and shortened the can about 4" and gutted the cat and this made all the differnce in the world! It sound amazing. At the bike night other riders said it sounded like a "v8", "big block", "v-rod", "ducati". So what ever it sounds like to u it's very deep, and it almost sounds like I have a big cam. But I also had my buddy build me a map on my pc5. Then I heat wrapped the pluming.
