I understand some come into GP with racing numbers and others chose based on finishing place last season...I'm asking in regards to jorge...last season he was forty something but now he is running the 99 plate...anyone know why?

For some it's their favorite number, or for some other reason. 46 was Rossi's Father's racing number. 69 I believe was Nicky Hayden's Fathers number. As for why Jorge changed it? Have you tried to google it, or check MotoGP website?

Jorge let his fans decide the new number. Jorge left his team manager Dani Amatriain and decided it was time to change his number as well. http://www.lorenzo99.com/

Since Dingo lost 1 to Rossi so the number 1 is back on Rossi's shoulder where it belongs. He's never run the 1 plate on his bike IIRC in any of his championship defending seasons.

I like Hayden and all but anytime you choose 69 for a number, whether it's racing or a sports jersey or a lotto ticket, you look like a complete retard. JMHO.

69 was his fathers number. The reason his father picked it was he was always crashing and in an effort to always be recognized he said, " You can always read the number. It doesn't matter if I'm up or down!"

It doesn't matter if I'm up or down!" Nicky said something along those lines in the docudrama "The Doctor, The Tornado, and The Kentucky Kid".
