KEEP IT DOWN 05-13-2009, 07:13 PM I just recently purchased an Icon Jacket and when putting it on the first time I went to go fasten the side tabs to make it more snug around the waist and noticed that the metal tab was broken and stuck in the button tab on the leather flap.
I looked at this and was just amazed at how poor the quality these jackets are made.
Has anyone had any problems with Icon Jackets or any Apparel and what are your thought about their quality?
Canti 05-13-2009, 07:25 PM I bought the new super duty 2 pants by icon. The sizing was terrible, a 34 waist was more like a 36 and a the side pockets ripped while I tried to get my cellphone out and for some reason the pants leg was like 35 long.
shaved93 05-13-2009, 07:27 PM I bought the decay jacket and helmet..And I love it jacket is real good quality but the helmet snap broke off the helmet.
CroR1 05-13-2009, 07:30 PM i had mine for a full season and i love it. best quality ever. you probably got a lemon, take it back, exchange it. mine is timx 2 leather. got it for 380 brand new. shit dealer wanted 600 plus tax, i told him let me go get my credit card, i left it in the car. phuckin crackhead.

CantDrv55 05-13-2009, 07:47 PM Even Joe Rocket > icon junk. The only people around here that I see wearing icon garbage are super squidly mofos who wear an icon jacket and shorts.
Sykotic1 05-13-2009, 07:59 PM I have an icon leather jacket and I havn't had an issue yet but when I did get it after opening up the box at the neck there was a big MADE IN CHINA sticker. When you make stuff in China you are bound to have some crap out there so like CroR1 said you prob just got a lemon just bring back to store.
YzRacer212 05-13-2009, 08:04 PM I crashed in my Icon Motorhead Jacket and Icon Arc Textile pants and I walked away like a champ. The jacket was scuffed but a local leather shop buffed it out looks good again. Sizing on some of the pants has been a little tough for me, mostly because I refuse to admit that I need a size 36 lol.
tproby 05-13-2009, 08:36 PM I have an ICON jacket and pants and have been really happy with them. I feel like the quality is good, maybe not the best but IMO their gear feels good and looks clean.
black03yzf 05-13-2009, 08:39 PM i have a pair of icon pants and have been very happy with them. considering a leather street jacket from them, so which one gave you problems?
timmaayy2323 05-13-2009, 08:44 PM I have a Blue Iconz Jacket and it looks, and fits great!!! but I must say being 5'11 and weighin 160 it is werid that a XL Jacket fits me perfect.... I cant see someone who normally wears a L or XL fiting into this jacket... but fits be great!!
tiatool 05-13-2009, 08:52 PM You will get mixed reviews on Icon stuff.
I don't have a problem with Icon, but I also don't own any jackets or pants made by them.
I have bought lots of gear, and have found that for me, A* has fit, and worked best. That does not mean that it is that way for everyone though.
lthrnwd98 05-13-2009, 09:00 PM I can agree to their stuff being poorly made. I used to be real big on Icon (Timax Textile Jacket - held up in crash, Team Merc Jacket - neck opening too large and back vent zippers started ripping after 3 months, Super Duty 3 boots - too wide for street and aggressive riding, better suited for stunting. I have now switched to Alpinestar - great quality and excellent fit.
madboosties 05-13-2009, 09:42 PM I honestly don't think that anything is wrong with their gear, but I will say that Icon does have a certain type of audience that many aren't too fond of.
09R1-Pilot 05-13-2009, 10:26 PM I agree with Madbooties that ICON is geared for a specific crowd but it's like any other product ... ya either like it or ya don't
I have a ICON helmet , several pairs of ICON Super Duty gloves and a pair of Super Duty boots and I've been pleased with them so far ... I also have gear from Joe Rocket , HJC , AGV , Gaerne and Technic and have been rather pleased with those as well

I've heard alot of bad things about Icon...mainly poor quality overall. my buddy picked up a pair of Icon gloves..less then a week later then stitching started to come apart.
and i also agree that Icon is geared toward a specific crowd
j07r1 05-14-2009, 01:08 AM Ive had a pair of Icon gloves for 5 years and they are still holding up. I wear the same pair everytime i ride. I also have an Icon leather jacket that is as good as the day I bought it 4 years ago. The helmets seem to be ok Ive never owned one but know a lot of people that do and they really like them. Overall I'de say its good stuff. A lot of people don't like it just because of the crowd it marketed towards and the majority of people that wear it. But Ive always had good luck. Theres always going to be a few flaws with every companies gear and a few lemons, its just with some companies you will never hear about it.
I've had my Icon motorhead jacket for almost 2 years and not one issue. I've hit the ground with it and all it had was a bit of road rash. After that I never put on my joe rocket jacket again (textile). Most of icons stuff is geared to stunt riding or blasting threw city streets. Personally I think they have the best leather jackets. Maybe you got a bad one. If it makes you feel any better my alpinestar gloves fell apart 3rd week.
rudebwoy 05-14-2009, 03:51 AM I've had great experiences with Icon leather jackets, specifically the Motorhead (circa 2005-6), and the neo-daytona jackets (circa 2006-7).
I cannot complain about the quality and the fit, in fact I ended up going with Icon and JoeRocket jackets initially because I could rely on the size chart to fit when the product arrives. There are no A-stars, Spidi, dianese, etc gear in the few motoshops around me and like others tend to order gear from the 'newenough.com, motorcycle-superstore, other internet resources kinda places and I have had to send too many AlpineStars jackets back that some vendors must have thought I was trying to piss them off deliberately.
I just cannot rely on their sizing charts as the same stated size does not deliver consistenly physically sized product between models and I'm yet to find an Astars jacket that fits me (dont get me started on their one-piece suits) that I have a firm belief that they dont make stuff in my size.
I ordered an Icon jacket out of initial frustration and curiosity (motorhead) and damned if that sucker didnt fit the first time out, on top of that it was good thick leather, it was cut for my present...ahem....ex-athlete physique...ahem - and from my experience with it, it has proven to be a quality piece of kit. Same again with the Neo-Daytona jacket, the barrier pants and I admit to thinking their superduty gloves are some of the comfiest I've ever had, tho not the most protective (short cuff, padded leather).
I'll also give them props for the armored vest (whatsitcalledagain??), suprisingly good and honest to goodness back protection that a street rider will wear every time they ride.
Other items have proven not so great like the superduty pants, I suppose they work if you have no testicles, not a big fan of some of the overstyled gear but that's subjective (I tend to believe in black jackets), the field armor gear works I suppose if ur a skinny bastard, but again props for being on of the first and few with street oriented protective items.
I've never tried their footwear but I've heard decent things about them, I just personally believe in a full height armored race boot...after rocking a pair of sidi's how can you compromise the sense of bombproof-ness.
They produce an array of gear and models and I'm sure some might be junk and gaudy but seriously, they do have some product worthy of commendation.
itsfun 05-14-2009, 05:55 AM When I first started riding I heard about the vents on some Icon helmets ripping off at highway speeds. Ever since then I've stayed away.
As far as Dainese goes. I wore one of their jackets for 15,000 miles and love the fit, but hate the finish. It fits amazing and works wonderfully in summer or winter (their liners are amazing) The only problem was the quality of the leather. The white leather started deteriorating after 1 month of owning the jacket. Maybe I wasn't cleaning it correctly, but the black leather held up perfect, while the white makes the jacket look 20 years old. It also survived 3 low sides no problem :crash If their stuff wasn't so damn expensive I'd buy dainese every time...
KEEP IT DOWN 05-14-2009, 06:21 AM I purchased the Icon Daytona Jacket.
I had previous jackets and gloves from Icon and never had a problem. Went down once years ago and walked away like with just scuffs on jacket and gloves. That was their old line though, this new line doesnt seem to have the same quality as the old IMO.
clos02 05-14-2009, 07:38 AM the same thing happened to my jacket... where the side loop goes around and snaps the little metal peice popped right off i just put in the next one. also the inside where the liner snaps into place those little peices broke off also.
02R1FUN 05-14-2009, 08:03 AM The jacket, helmet and gloves I bought at the end of 06 are doing great, no problems what so ever with them. Maybe their standards have dropped or build quality is not there anymore :dunno
rocalotopus 05-14-2009, 08:58 AM i have a bunch of icon stuff. it's all held up pretty well.
lthrnwd98 05-14-2009, 09:17 AM I purchased the Icon Daytona Jacket.

Like i mentioned earlier, I had a Timax Textile Jacket that held up to a 40ft. slide on my back, while my fairly new Team Merc Jacket barely lasted a summer. In my opinion, all the new Icon gear seems a little flimsy and poorly made, thats why I switched to A*. Maybe there quality is declining as their popularity is growing.
MustangsnR1s 05-14-2009, 09:17 AM I have all Icon gear ( jacket, pants, gloves, helmet) never had a problem... My buddy had a Motohead Jacket that had broke a zipper, they replaced the jacket .. it was like 3 years old....
rideco 05-14-2009, 09:34 AM I think it just depends on what icon products you buy. I have a pair of pants and gloves from icon and they are great. Holding up really well and over all I must say I am happy with there products.

Top Heavy 05-16-2009, 03:51 PM Bought an Icon leather jacket, mainly because its the only one that had a factory fit that I could actually get on. I would have loved to purchase an Alpinestars, or a Dainese, but they just do not make one I can comforatably zip up (or get my arms all the way in).
All stitching seams fine, leather is of good quality, and it breathes great.
For the money, in my opinion it works fine, I hope that I don't ever actually have to test it. I could not wait the allotted time for a custom made jaket, the Icon will do.
06YamaR1 05-16-2009, 04:27 PM i have a Joe rocket textile jacket and an Icon leather jacket. No issues but I rarely wear my icon jacket. only use it for cold weather riding. I just the Joe Rocket daily. I also have a pair of Denim Icon jeans. I've worn it a few times. so far not problem. I was looking for some Icon gloves and was about to buy a pair up in baltimore. I was looking at ones with zippers but when i tried one on it fit a bit weird. I was not 100 percent sure so I decided to try on the other one... there were both large and one fit and the other didn't it appeared to be a medium.. that was when i put them down and left. Days prior i bought a pair of jeans. when i got to the hotel i could barely pull them up past my ass.. they were a 36.. i wear a 36. I exchanged them for a different pair. After the gloves i gave up looking for Icon gear...
Kentktk 06-12-2009, 09:44 PM ICON is show gear for Squids
cyberliche 07-07-2009, 10:03 PM ICON is show gear for Squids
That's sort of like saying Vettes are for guys with small cocks.
I'm no squid - I doubt you could find a street rider that was less squid than me, and my winter jacket and helmet are both ICON.
My first consideration when looking for a jacket was if it seemed to be well made out of quality material. My ICON jacket seems like it's built like a fortress. It's heavy and well constructed. It also happens to look pretty damn cool: old school punk style tattoos.
The helmet is the best fitting helmet I could find. Some of my rider friends gave me crap for not getting an Arai or Shoei, but both of those fit my head terribly and are usually much more expensive than other brands. My ICON fits perfect and carries a Snell rating.
balance 07-08-2009, 06:00 AM Another thumbs up for Icon.. I wear my gear every time out and usually it's Icon stuff. Ive had 4 helmets from them, 2 of which saved my noodle from the pavement, 4 jackets and a few pairs of gloves which have also left me still wearing my skin every time. Their boots aren't for me, I wear Sidis.
I currently ride with a mainframe helmet, perforated accelerant jacket and original timax gloves. People call it stunter or squid gear, but it fits me well, it holds up when it needs to, looks great and comes at a great price.
xdonniedarkox 07-09-2009, 10:46 AM Some of Icon's design is interesting. Definitely getting at the RuffRyder vibe. Cool, but not my deal.
Unfortunate it broke down:(
I support brands that support racing, no better then Italian marque Alpinestars. Spendy stuff, but good.
