Mr. Z 05-13-2009, 10:13 PM I know this has already been addressed, but is it really necessary to keep the rear pegs? Yes, there's a cross beam that supports the pegs, but is there any hard evidence that this would in fact cause an issue with the magnesium subframe cracking? Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't the '08 r6 subframes made of the same material? I haven't seen any issues with the passenger pegs being removed on them. The rear pegs are the first thing I'd like to ditch, especially on a track bike, and I don't see how Yamaha could incorporate them as an integral part structurally.
On another note, anybody know an ETA from vortex for '09 rearsets?
yammyduc 05-14-2009, 11:55 AM I'd like to ditch mine as well. I know as well there is a big discussion, but no one has actually seen the tech bulletin...so :dunno
It would probably be fine ditching them...but if it does break like someone pointed out it's gonna hurt your balls alot.
saigono1 05-22-2009, 11:28 AM Hi guys! I just picked up my 2009 R1 and would like to remove the rear pass. pegs as well. Any suggestions as to where I could relocate the rear brake master res.?
dieyoung69 05-22-2009, 12:17 PM I have an 07 and I would like to take mine of too.
If it is indeed a part of the subframe structure I am sure you can find or modify something (your rears), to support it.
But IMHO I don't think it serves any other purpose than footing for your pillion.
:corn
I just bought a brembo 15cc Clutch Reservoiur which I mounted behind the heel guard to relocate the brake fluid cylinder. Just cut a small portion of the existing tube to connect the fluid res to the master cylinder.
saigono1 05-22-2009, 10:06 PM Thanks guys, but i found a bracket on Ebay for our bike!
steveWFL 05-22-2009, 10:23 PM there is a whole thread on this forum how to remove the pegs and retain a bracket from the stock pegs http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/avatars/google.gif

looks like he cut the peg? and pwder coated?
Hey guys, as addressed in a previous thread.....removing the rear pegs will not compromise the integrity of the rear sub frame. I'm always amazed at how rumors get started! The issue was in putting the rear pegs back on without the cross brace....this has the potential to crack the subframe (over time) from an unsupported load on the pegs. If you do remove your rear pegs, just be sure to re-install the bolts to attach the plastic to the subframe.

what's your source of information?
In german R-1 forum i could read Yamaha told the dealer finaly, you can remove the rear pegs if there is no heavy load like luggage in the rear or a very heavy rider on the subframe. But Mr. Yamaha didn't tell me personaly!

Hacksaw, Angle Grinder and a rattle can of flat black! :thumbup
flannelback 06-11-2009, 11:20 PM ... and you have your priorities correct with your parking location, as well.
Nice work. I might have to add one of those trendy carbon fiber sleeves to protect the
brake reservoir from unseen dangers.
