09R1-Pilot 05-21-2009, 02:57 PM While out riding to-day the engine light came on and I also noticed that the temp gauge was reading 77 degrees F and this after I have been riding for about an hour or so :whtfu:
It showed no code and the bike ran just fine ... after I got to where I was heading I shut her down and a few hours later started her back up and everything showed fine
Any ideas what may have caused the engine light to come on and the temp gauge to read wrong ?
Thanks
09R1-Pilot 05-21-2009, 05:34 PM Alright ...
I just got back home but when I started the bike where I was the engine light came right back on but the temp gauge read right this time
Anybody got any ideas as to why this happened cause it's pissin' me off being a brand new bike with around 125 miles on her
Thanks again
Redgecko 05-21-2009, 06:32 PM The temp was probably showing intake temp rather than engine temp but don't know about engine light sorry
09R1-Pilot 05-21-2009, 06:36 PM I didn't know it would show that temp ... is that automatic or is there a way to bring it up ?
Redgecko 05-21-2009, 06:57 PM No you can switch, funny thing is I did it accidently the other day I was also like what the @#@ then remembered it could do that and it was back fine once I switched off and on again :lol I would have to check to tell you how to do it intentionally :thumbup
Redgecko 05-21-2009, 07:05 PM Ok 09 manual says switch key on and press reset and it should switch, also says it should show a "A" in front to show that it is displaying air intake temp :thumbup
09R1-Pilot 05-22-2009, 07:43 AM Thanks ...
I finally found that in the service manual and I do remember pressin' the reset after I fueled and started her but I don't re-call seein' an " A " there though
Anyhoo ... yesterday when the problem first began when I first started the bike to leave my house while I was in the house gettin' my jacket and helmet the bike quit running before I got back outside ... also when I re-started her and was puttin' me helmet on she died again ... another :whtfu:
Then when I started out on the road thats when the engine light came on and stayed on but no code ever showed
It's up-settin' to say the least

09R1-Pilot 05-22-2009, 12:40 PM Come on guys ... doesn't ANYbody have ANY ideas as to what this problem may be or ever have it happen with YOUR bike yet
I really don't wanna take her to the stealership ... I'd rather doctor her myself
09R1-Pilot 05-24-2009, 08:34 AM :dunno anybody
Nostickers 05-24-2009, 10:44 AM :dunno anybody
Mine has 1300 trouble free miles.
I hate to say it but that sounds like a trip to the stealership.
I am with you on the "fix it yourself" but that sounds like it could be some electronic crapola.
09R1-Pilot 05-24-2009, 10:55 AM Yeah and as bad as I hate it ...
I think thats what I'm gonna have to do ...
09R1-Pilot 06-02-2009, 12:15 PM I got the problem fixed and I didn't take it back to the stealership but decided to troubleshoot the problem myself and low and behold I figured it out and all's well now
No more engine light on except at start up :thumbup
strat1701 06-02-2009, 02:36 PM Good for you! What did you discern to be the cause?

What was the cause and how did you fix it?
09R1-Pilot 06-03-2009, 08:38 AM Well guys ... I found that the problem was of my own makin' ...
The engine light now comes on ONLY when ya turn the key to ON at start up like it's suppose to during the pre start diagnostic check
The problem I found was due to a blocked hose that I had taped off when I done the smog block off and I had forgot to remove that tape when I was done ... so I suppose it had something to do with air flow to the fuel system
But it was odd because the day after I did the smog block off it ran fine with no issues and then the next day is when the problems began so it confused me
Ooo well ... all's well now
