MORE popping after AIS capped off?

Has anyone (who has done this to an 09) noticed that the decel pops are more frequent and louder AFTER capping off the AIS system? Is this a normal thing? I went for a 10 mile test ride after putting the full LEO system, pcv, autotune and did the cap off of the AIS in the airbox (did not have block off plates) and she seems to pop worse (louder and more frequently) than when it was all stock. I know a full system will facillitate louder pops but that's why I blocked off with vac caps and tape the AIS tube! I am running the pcv map from dynojet's website for the bike with the mods I have. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

It could pop more because of: - a small exhaust leak from installation (it pulls air from their) - your fuel map is lean right now You can try and open the airbox tube again and see what popping does. Btw. got my '09 friday, in white, euro model :-) Cheers!

Thanks for the input guys. I will test it out and try to see if I can get the joints any tighter. I know the main header bolts are torqued to factory spec 14 ft. lbs. Interesting suggestion about the AIS system to uncap it. I would think that would cause it to get worse actually since more air would be sucked in. The autotune instructions are specific in stating that in order for it to function properly it must be capped off because then the autotone module won't tune correctly. I'd think that the dyno jet map for a full system shouldn't be that lean, but then again, it's far from a custome tune. Any ideas on how best to test an exhaust system for leaks? Aside from running the engine and putting your ear to it? At base idle she's loud so it's hard for me to hear any hissing from a seam even when i'm under it. Do they have leak test solutions you can put on the joints that bubble or something that won't harm the finish of the titanium pipes?

No leak tester nessesary. If u install correctly there is no problem. I always use a bit of grease when you push a pipe into an other (...i know...). This seals the minimal gaps, but it's not nessesary. If you can't hear leaks because of sound level, use your hand near the pipe to feel it blow out or a sheet of paper. If you have autotune the map should be at your target A/F mix. Do you have to input a target A/F in autotune? With autotune you shouldn't test to uncap the AIS, because it would adjust to the more air in exhaust with more fuel what makes the bike run rich. It was thought as a test to see if it pops even more, what i should do. Some inspiration for you? I picked up my 09 on thursday in white, euro model ...like mine :-) I have now 650km on, did the first short sprints to 12k in low gears. So linear, like elctro motor he he. Gearing waaaay to long, but all know. Not much heat radiating but a very hot motor when driving in town or standing still. You're happy with your bike, too Hot Wheels?

Very happy with it, already 800 miles on the clock and counting, I expect that to be more like 1500 miles by the end of the weekend : ) are there any guides on here for the ais block off on an 09, it's just I really can't be bothered to take the airbox off just to have a look at it all and work out what I need to block in the airbox till I get myself some block off plates (nowhere sells em off the shelf over here)

I'm in the same process about the AIS. Right now im mailing with a shop in US for buying some block off plates. But they seem to take 70$ for shipping & wire transfer from people from europe. Because i need other parts beside the AIS plates, too i will maybe do it anyway. On the other side, i could make my plates by my selfe from a aluminium plate. Here is a good how to about the '09: http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265306 Where in europe are you from? Cheers!
