AnonymousR1 07-16-2009, 12:05 PM Would anyone be willing to open up their airbox and take a picture of the front portion of it where the ram air come into it. I want to verify that yours does not have the "funnel" that the US models have. There was pictures of this before on here, but they have been removed.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
FishOuttaWater 07-16-2009, 12:35 PM I cant remember exactely, but I think the Canadian bikes aren't restricted either...
So a pic of a Candian bikes air-box would probably be the same, no...?
:dunno

Yeah, Canada has the euro models.. same ish.
MrQuickR1 07-17-2009, 04:01 AM If this "funnel" is in fact some sort of restriction, what benefit could the US models see/feel if we removed it?
Would it allow more air in, or is the funnel acting as a flow guide?
811Racer 07-17-2009, 06:40 AM I can't imagine there is any benefit to be gained. The air is force feed through the intakes at the same rate and is then funneled up through this port before it goes through the air filter. The "funnel" looks like it was designed to force air up into the empty compartment (top front) in the airbox. I have blocked this hole as well since this is just an empty compartment on the US models. I'd sure like to know what the intent of this upper compartment is!

First is a US bike, the second is a UK bike IIRC. Is this what you are talking about?

Yep! That's what I was looking for.. Now if someone could take a picture of the top of their airbox to see if the European models have the "chamber" like in the picture Brian(811racer) posted..
I cut the "funnel" off mine to mimic the Euro airbox.

tlsmikey 07-17-2009, 09:58 AM Ya know, Spies has vents on the top of his tank that allow air into the airbox. I wonder if the intent was to allow you to open up that little lid and pump more air into the airbox. Seems like it would defeat the ram-air affect thoug.
Hot Wheels 07-17-2009, 02:35 PM yes european models have that same chamber as in 811racer's pics, I don't have any pics to show you but can do if it's critical

Can you confirm that the Euro box doesn't have the funnel as the US models?
Hot Wheels 07-17-2009, 03:35 PM yes it has no funnel, and looks like yours does now, what a pain in the arse trying to get that section out though, I had loads of fun with that when fitting my block off plates.
I will probably be able to get some pictures for you when I put my new fairings etc on if you still need some pics, but it does look just like yours.

Haha, funny you mention that. I had the hardest time getting that thing back in after doing my smog block offs. I mentioned in my other thread - I was trying to put the rubber ram air boots on the OUTSIDE of the hard plastic box, rather than inside the box. I spent at least an hour trying to get both sides on before I realized that. Talk about being frustrated. I did slam it down at least one time... haha
gregpz 07-17-2009, 04:36 PM I cut out restriction in my 09 and bike feels stronger everywhere, smooth linear power band.
Just watch fuel line routing I pinched mine and had frustrating couple weeks trying to figure out what's wrong with the bike.
(No need for PCV)

With as much shit as I have under my gas tank from the Bazzaz, I'm surprised that I did not pinch my fuel line.. :lol

mhhh any more popping.. cuz im completely stock and man i pops crazy on decel. i was thinking of doing this but wasnt sure if i needed a power commander
triplex76 07-18-2009, 12:38 AM i would reccomend not to close the hole of that airbox chamber compartment, cause it acts like a lump for the secondary injectors... who is just a little older can remember for sure the 2 stroke lumps in race bikes;it does the same, smooths out the initial roughness of the air inlet

I'd say no difference but I have race baffles, gutted cat and I love the sound on deceleration. It doesn't sound anything like my other bikes that were poping it's more like big V8 decel.
