hey hey hey!
My first R1 (2002) just purchased and being delivered later next week all going well..just joined the KB site too. Just off to get the protection sorted i.e. full leathers :thumbup

Can hardly wait. North of Jafaland.

Must be lots of accessory website around for some further retail therapy?

Hey espresso it sucks waiting a bike to turn up doesn't it.
Mine came up from Queenstown while i was away camping with the family,
had a hard time waiting to get back.My mind definately wasn't on camping.

Yeah Nallac, I'm just along the peninsula myself. Bought the R1 from South Island last week, getting it trucked up, 'should' be here end of next week...I'm impatient/ADD on a good day...but two weeks, that's more like a life sentence at the moment :cryin . Patients (patience) are for hospitals :lol

Then once it arrives no doubt a quick squirt, but really I'd like to do a full scrutineer on it, replace brake fluids, lube everything, check over everything, twice, oh and lots of Mothers polish :fork

So what colour is your one, and is she stock?.
seen your thread on KB awaiting pics...
Mind if i ask what ya payed for it?.

It's the blue 'n white R1 - had to be 'cos I couldn't have my blue helmet clash with a red one :) and the garage has much blue around, pretty much stock, got a Yoshi carbon muffler, 17000k's, power commander(?), I think polished rims..pretty much stock. But I do like shiny new things so no doubt bits and pieces to add for a bit of a personal touch. Paid $8250 for it which I'm happy with as this seems to be below market value (as long as it's in primo condition) when it arrives.

Mind you with knee surgery happening on Monday, by the time the bike does arrive later in the week I should be good to go ridin' (pffft to the surgeon who reckons it'll take weeks...yeah right). Right knee so I have all controls sorted except rear brake :thumbup

Aye well then Bardman, she arrived and it's like a major breath of fresh air riding the R1, actually more like a breath of NOS :D (or whatever that gas is that the ambulances have). It's fun, the riding that is. Today was classic...had a few hours to go enjoy a ride on some dry back roads, stuff all traffic. Work? Pffft.
No outrageous mind blowing speed thrills today really, just a blat around.
Parked up for a while to let the sun warm the skeleton with the R1 just shy of the salty stuff.

:tocoo: day

So came home, gave her the quick rub down with the white cotton cloth, bugs and road dust you understand. Very happy with correcting the tyre pressures, something I need a :chair: for not doing sooner..excitement got the better of good judgent, again..both tyres needed significant adjusment. The mornings oil and filter change (just 'cos now it's my bike and gets treats) and with this new Elf chain paste I got...well you just have to go bed things in right :sneaky

Put crash bungs on.

Nice bike..! Ever thought about painting the rims white..? It really pops on the blue ones.

And you should probably wash your bike after being so close to the sea-water...

the britton sounds off the hook, not bad for a bike with little too no mapping below 3k rpm!!!

Yo ..gee.. that pic is at Muriwai, west Auckland, just down from the Cafe'...where back in the good 'ol days we'd take the MX bikes up the beach on trailers to the bombing range and go mental for a day, then beat the incoming tide to get back.

The thought of heading to Hampton Downs to watch (ride?) sounds good, will check out the open days. I'm a real squid on the bike so I'd be a danger to everything and everyone, might check out the ultimate 'stay away from noob' class and have a wobbly lap or two trying to learn how to ride properly.

Is there anything in particular I need to know for a first track day ever? I have a van...take the bike there or just ride it there?

Cheers blacknzr1, 'cos after a day on the MX bike, I'm absolutely knackered and on auto drive home, good point.
Geez reckon I should buy a lotto ticket, finally cleared my responsibilities late today, took the bike out to blow the weeds outta my head i.e. gave it a good strop here and there. Stopped at a fav. lookout and an awesome Nissan 300zx GTR rocked in, and while just getting chatting (the driver was also a biker with a stunning girlfriend.. and he knew his bikes, I was gobbing at his car etc too) two cop cars roll in. Shyte, I assumed they'd clocked me and were about to do a body cavity check :lhumper: . They got the Nissan guy, I must've been in front (not that I was speeding, just might've looked that way :bs ). Had a rather scenic and casual ride home.
Funny thing was though one cop was in a Nissan Maxima, it looked so lame and he'd been trying for ages to catch up and record the 300's speed - the dude had a flash radar detector and slowed each time it went off, but one. By the heat in the tyres as I was checking the 300 over, he was honking it alright, so sat back and kept quiet :corn

About time the All Blacks won last night.

blacknzr1
09-20-2009, 03:07 AM
yer these bikes are quick and easy to get in trouble, a good radar detector is handy, even tho, after about 140 youv got to think twice about stopping, but that might not allways be a possability.
and it seems the fuzz will nail you for just about anything these days just for the hell of it.
take it easy.

Anyone else keen to have a sticker, t shirt (small/large jacket patch...or are they banned now?) or whatever R1 'squadron' style? The Kiwi bird itself seems pretty lame, but the fernleaf, black and silver/white, R1 styalized kind of thing could look great. I guess this would be in very limited numbers though :)
Anyone got graphic talent, the inclination, permission needed etc?

nice idea, i just dont think it would work, we dont have the numbers and would never get together for a ride, from what iv see auckland and nelson would have to come together, too far.

Well, adjusting to a few changes 'round my little pond has meant I sold my beautiful R1. I still have all the riding gear but right now a few other priorities that must be taken care of. Got back what I paid for it so all in all, happy man.

One day I'll be back.

Enjoy your riding guys, stay safe.
