FUNDS REQUIRED: $115 per person (includes dinner each night). $20 for a convention shirt. Total is $135 per person (make sure to add an extra $5 for paypal fees if you are sending funds from your paypal account). Keep in mind you are welcome to attend without eating nightly meals, this is an accomodation for members. Paypal Funds shall be sent to DanQ at DanQ@SoFastSoClean.com. If you have any questions Dan or myself can answer them anytime. Make sure you include your complete info when signing up (full real names + screen names of people attending and that you clearly identify that the funds are for the convention deals gap trip). Also note that Fontana Village will include use of the "WORLD FAMOUS" Thursday night party boats with these funds as well. We are privileged to have this opportunity from Fontana so if you are on the fence about contributing for the food please do. Your party boat access is included :) Each year we have the nightly meals catered. For those that have attended in the past you know that these meals are TOP NOTCH! FOOD MENU: Monday Roast beef w/ gravy Macaroni salad Vegetable medley Mashed potatoes Apple pie Rolls w/ butterTuesday Country fried steak Red skin potato salad Macaroni and cheese Green beans Peach cobbler Rolls w/ butterWednesday Roast pork loin Fruit salad Black beans White rice Squash medley Cherry cobbler Rolls w/ butterThursday Meat lasagna Mixed salad w/ dressings Buttered corn Broccoli and cheese Chocolate pie Rolls w/ butterFriday Hard tacos Soft tacos Ground beef Pulled chicken Lettuce Tomato Sour cream Guacamole Refried beans Rice Nachos Smoked jalapeno & tomato salsaCut off will be April 23rd, 2010 for that money. If you can't come the whole week at least try and get there by Wed or Thursday. The whole area is unbelievable during the week when things aren't as crowded. Place: Deal's Gap Info about the Gap: www.dealsgap.com (http://www.dealsgap.com) / www.tailofthedragon.com (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/)Lodging: Fontana Village Website: www.fontanavillage.com (http://www.fontanavillage.com/) Link to Convention Transportation Thread (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274908). Have space in your vehicle, or looking to split the ride with someone, click here (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274908). LODGING: We do get discount rates, but you MUST tell Fontana Village you are with the Yamaha R1 Forum Group to get the discount rates and so that they put you with us. If there are any problems ask to speak with Debbie or just let me know. Their phone number is 1-800-849-2258. Make your reservations early. IT WILL FILL UP!!! It would really suck to not be able to get a cabin at Fontana:yesnod Look at their website and inquire with them, by phone, to make your choice. 1-800-849-2258. I would suggest making reservations as early as you can, everywhere fills up that time of year up there. They have blocked off 22 cabins and 10 lodge rooms for us. So start making reservations as soon as you can. After March 1st, 2010 they will be released to the general public and WILL sell out. SO GET YOUR RESERVATIONS MADE ASAP!!! For the guys coming up as singles I would suggest getting together with other folks on the Forum and splitting the cost of a small or large cabin. There are gonna be several cabins available. Fontana also has campsites available if you want to camp. They are approximately a mile down the road. Everyone is welcome - but please realize that this group is made up with many types of riders of different skill levels and desires. This is not about getting together to race, or to drag other people into riding above their limits! Everyone is expected to ride at their own pace and have a good time! REMEMBER: Deadline is April 23rd, 2010 for all funds!!! Alcoholic beverages: BYOB T-SHIRTS: PRE ORDER ONLY!! The shirt cost of $20 is included in the price above. If you don't want a shirt you aren't required to purchase one. PHOTOGRAPHY: We will have a professional photographer in attendance. PRIZES: Of course we will have prizes like each year. These will be given out at the Yamaha dinner on Saturday night. You HAVE to be a member of the R1 Forum or R6 Forum and also on the definates list to be eligible for the Prize drawing. We have some killer prizes every year so you need to make sure I put you on the definates list if you are coming. No maybes, WE said definates...please remember that. Everyone can sign up by replying to this thread or sending a PM to myself or DanQ and we will put you on the list. EMERGENCY CONTACT INFO: Everyone must fill out the sheet upon check-in at the reservation desk of the Fontana Lodge. Here are some of the events that will be held during the week. Monday-Friday 6:30 PM will be dinner on Shuckstack Road. Cross Roads Lunch (usually everyone meets at the CROT for lunches daily)Wednesday Sushi Run Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse 226 Lovell Rd, Knoxville - (865) 675-0201 Signup thread---> www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272380Thursday Night-Party Boat!Friday Saturday 1 pm Annual Ride to Overlook 6:30 pm is the Big Yamaha Sponsored dinner. The prize giveaway will be during this also. .Most everything is discussed and planned out in the evenings around dinner and hanging out. If you want to get up a ride or find out where people are going the next day come up to Shuckstack Road and hang out. If you get to Fontana during the day just head to the CROT and you will find someone from the forum. Please contact myself or DanQ, to be put on the definate list: You don't have to be on the definites list to be eligible for prizes, but you MUST BE PRESENT! Where is Shuckstack Rd., is it in Fontana Village? 2. What and where is CROT? 3. Where's the sushi run to?

At Fontana Village instead of turning left to head to the main resort, turn right on that road and go to the top of the hill (I think it's the 2nd or 3rd road in) turn left on Shuchstack Rd. It's pretty easy to find. You can use Google Map and see it. Cut north of the border drive through Canada, kick Johnny's ass, then drop back down into the US on the other side of the Lakes? :lol :lol :lol

Dragon to get Patrol cycle unit ROBBINSVILLE — Motorcyclists on some of Western North Carolina's most popular biking destinations can expect to soon see state troopers riding alongside them. The patrolmen's purpose, however, isn't so much to crack down on riders Labor Day weekend as it is to remind motorcyclists to ride safely. There have been five fatal motorcycle crashes in Swain and Graham counties on mountain roads near and leading up to the world-famous “Tail of the Dragon” so far this year. Those roads include N.C. 28 and the Cherohala Skyway. “Compared to last year, that's a lot more,” N.C. Highway Patrol trooper Sgt. Todd Norville said. “For 2008, we didn't have any fatalities in Graham County.” Officially designated as U.S. 129, the Dragon starts in Blount County, Tenn., and packs 318 curves in 11 miles. Although most of the road is in Tennessee, at least two people in a typical year are killed on the North Carolina side of the road . The Highway Patrol has been requested to send its Charlotte-based motorcycle unit to the mountains for the past three years, but hasn't done so yet this year because of state budget cuts, Norville said. There are usually about four troopers whot come to the mountains on their BMW motorcycles. “A lot of it is about public relations,” Norville said of using the motorcycle unit in the mountains. “We just try to explain to (motorcyclists) that this is not the road that they're used to because most of them are coming here from Illinois or Ohio where there are no curves or hills. “They come to the mountains and they're not used to these curvy roads, and they get themselves in a bad situation quick.” Most of the serious accidents on U.S. 129 happen in Graham County, according to N.C. Highway Patrol records. Troopers last year responded to four wrecks involving injuries on U.S. 129 in Swain County and 20 in Graham County. Troopers wrote one speeding ticket in Swain County and 91 in Graham County. The Highway Patrol participated in a safety awareness event earlier this month at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, located one mile south of the Tennessee-North Carolina state line along the Dragon. The event, which drew more than 1,000 people, is planned again for next year, resort owner Brad Talbott said. Risk of unfamiliarity Talbott said many accidents on the Dragon and other nearby roads aren't related to speeding or reckless riding. They are caused by riders who aren't used to the roads and might be riding beyond their skill level. “We just really focused on folks coming to Western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee having a good, enjoyable time and to come back next year because they didn't have a problem,” Talbott said. In past years, Talbott said he would see the Highway Patrol motorcycle unit about one weekend a month during the summer. “They get a very positive reaction because their focus is not to see how many tickets they can write or how much money they can generate for the state. Their focus is the same as ours, which is they want people to come here and not endanger themselves,” Talbott said. “We always love to see the motorcycle guys. They always have a very positive impact on the area, for motorcycling especially.” http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090830/NEWS01/908300339

Alright you all, I will be new for this event so you all tell me what to bring. I am calling right now to reserve a cabin. I come with Ford F-150 XLT Lariat Crew Cab and 6' x 14' open ramped trailer. Bringing 2 bikes for sure. Maybe more if other friends are coming but still have lots of cargo/cooler room. It seems obvious I need to stop at the package/liquor store and get some favorites. I was thinking about doing the meal package, so I don't have to worry about cooking but is that wise? Please advise. I am trying to get back in touch with the world and have a normal life. If you read my post above, yes I have been in Iraq/Afghanistan for 2 years. (Coming back Oct. 25, 2009) Looking forward to time off and real people. My R1 is my therapy and Deals Gap is my Mecca!!! I so need this! Some pics from Dec. 21, 2005. A friend of mine has two houses in Bryson City not to far away and we drove to the Dragon just to see it and pay homage. I can't wait to have my bike there!!! Truck is in background of one pic. Phil

I can't wait to have my bike there!!! Truck is in background of one pic. Phil #1, you'll be a welcomed addition to the convention. If it's just you (and wife or g/f get a 1-bdrm cabin; if more get 2-bdrm and so on. Most people like to get others in their cabins on the floor, couches, etc... to reduce the overall cost). Convention runs from Mon-Sat night, but a lot of people get there 1 or 2 days early, so you'll need food for those days. (Don't worry, there will be plenty of people cooking out, just jump in with 'em). The main gathering spot is Shuckstack Rd; just drop by there and introduce yourself and ask questions and you'll be familiarized in no time. Dinner package includes a dinner each night (M-f) around 6:30. Then afterwards the drinking and bs'ing begins. On thursday nights there is a "boat party" where everybody goes out to a moor'd houseboat and parties til about 1 am. We've got a DJ now, too, so that livens it up even more. On Sat nights, there is usually a dinner that is provided by Yamaha. During the week there's other things that get set up: BBQ at the CROT (Cross Roads Of Time store: where all the riders gather, rest, stage, etc... during the day), crawfish boil, walleye fry, gator fry, smoked you-name-it, etc. It changes year to year. Definitely bring plenty of drinks for the week; you'll go through a lot. There is limited amounts of beer for sale at the store on the premises, but will be $$. Bring a comfy portable chair(s), some bug spray, plenty of riding clothes, a couple bottles of flavored vodkas, some juices, red bulls, etc. You can get breakfast/lunch at the CROT, or in Robbinsville, or you can cook in your cabin--your call. There's plenty more, this is just off the top of my head. Reserve your cabin, get signed up with DanQ, and keep checking back on the Convention threads. Look forward to seeing you there, have a safe trip home. :thumbup

Kmac hit most of the big points. I like the meals myself because I like just showing up and eating. Plus the funds that we put into the dinners is what gets us the special rates for lodging (we don't pay the seasonal rate. To get our rate you MUST specify that you are with the R1-Forum/R6-Forum Convention). In addition to getting us our rates Fontana gives us the houseboat on Thursday night because of the food contract. This isn't that big of an issue this year because we are planning to collect money for the DJ so those that don't have dinner can still go on the boat. Any questions, post here and one of us regulars will lend a hand. If you need help with Fontana please PM me and I will help. Welcome to the Convention! :thumbup

DanQ

Location on Shuckstack will be the same, but we may have a fire pit near the last cabin to do our :beer each night. Details are going to be fleeting as those cabins are due for renovation prior to our arrival, but we are pretty sure about the fire pit.

Olymp!A
09-24-2009, 05:34 PM
So what was the final analysis for what was wrong with your bike? The starter clutch failed. Either the retaining clip failed first and cause the failure or the clutch failed which damaged the retaining clip. I would have been up and running prior to the convention had I an extra few days. Unfortunately I was worn out with work and the repair and just stressed too much to try and make an effort to limp the thing to PA before trailering it down to the gap for repair. I do appreciate all the help I received from answers to my tech questions and the offer to help rebuild it down there!! 2009's thread was created on 20080724 and 2010's was on 20090826 so there's month's difference right there. Also, the 2009 thread was more of a chat thread than this one is because the chat thread was created at the same time. I also think that due to the economy, many people are holding off until it's closer to commit.

Man that first post is looking good... I see a lot of familiar faces/names and a couple of new ones that I look forward to meeting. Then there's one name that's been on there for the last 2-3 years and has yet to show...:lol Could 2010 be the year? :lol:lol:lol

Anyone want to go white water rafting while we are there. I have been down several of the rivers in the area. There is of course the Nantahala, the Cheoah that is right there and if you want some real fun there is the Chatooga which is the river they filmed Deliverance on. Soooowheeeee!!!! It is a freaking blast and the NOC, Nantahala Outdoors Center, runs a great operation. Plus I may have an in or two there as the director is friends with my parents as is one of the head guides. They all used to be in the same kayak and paddling club with my folks here in FL. The Chatooga is a pretty good rush to go down. Pretty easy but with a few spots that have some class 4 & 5 rapids. Don't be pansies!

A small group went a few years back... I'm sure someone will chime in with what year it was and you can dig up the pictures from it.
