Hey camma

Wasn't there any other fees involved with bringing a Canadian bike to the U.S?

Did you just take the registration and licence it or was there some kind of inspection?

Liquid Silver, I'm in the Fort Lauderdale region and was wondering if you could email me or IM me the name of the place where you picked up the R1 for that price. I'm in the market for one now that I sold my R6. Also, was that out the door or plus tax and dealer fee?

Thanks

Greetings fellas/gals,

R1's aren't moving here...talked to a local dealer about trading my 01 blue r1 w/ 1,800 miles and d&d pipe-offered me $6,400.00 What a crock!!!!

"I can't move the new models, got 'em marked down $800."

He's got 3 new 2002 models (one of each color) on the floor that he's had for approx. 2 months now-very eager to sell.

'02 blue or red marked $9,499.00
'02 liquid silver marked $10,200.00 -of course.

Cash talks though!!!!

The dealer's name is Performance Plus Yamaha-Suzuki-BMW located in Memphis, Tennessee. You can get the number by accessing the yamaha or suzuki website and click on dealers using Memphis, TN as your area or 38111 as the zip code (I think some cites require a zip code to locate a dealer).

Any problems finding the number or you need more info, reply to his thread and I'll check back periodically.

Happy Hunting,

Dr. A :thumbup

You can get them for $9050 out the door at Chicago Cycle Center. I cost around 350.00 to ship it in the crate to my door in Oklahoma City. The # is 1-773-338-7320 ask for Jerry. He is the owner. They have over 100 r1s in stock. They also carry every brand of sport bikes. They sell the gsxr 1000 for $8795.00 that is a 2002 model. They have over 5000 sport bikes in stock. I have no idea how other dealers compete in pricing. He is a hell of a nicec guy. I was up there on a saturday and they sold 135 sport bikes not counting all the other bikes. Spread the word.:fact :fact

if you buy the R1 in another state, and then bring it like to say Virginia, are there any other taxes? And do you have to pay more to get it licensed and shit?

I heard a rumor that this was going into effect in Texas.... but I e-mailed a local dealer today and asked him what the inspection etc was for a new out of state purchased bike... $13.50 I believe. You will (should) only pay the state sales tax when you go to register the bike.

I had a friend who purchased a 2002 GSXR1000 from Canada... delivered to Texas it was $9100 I believe.

I tried to get my bike from there back in Mar. when the bike was first released. They were being rude about trying to sell me a bike, so I ended up finding a dealer in Indiana who matched their prices. And I must say I have been happy ever since. I am not flaming them, I am just letting folk know that they advertise that low price but they have huge hidden fees. So just check into them carefully.

As for Canada, if ya want a good price on any model bike talk to Powercycle in Windsor Canada. Ask for Iggy. He is licensed & bonded US/CA broker so he can deliver the bikes to your door in the US. All you have to pay extra is your own state sales tax.

If I buy the bike from canada, do you have to pay anything else, like to bring it into the US? So lets say if I buy the bike in Canada like $8500 USD then like $400 to ship it, then all I have to pay is like $400 state tax or so. This would be virginia. Thanks Stevied but any more help would be greatly appericated.:beer

When my buddy bought his GSXR 1000 from Iggy all he had to pay was shipping ~$300, and local sales tax... There was no charge for bringing the bike into the USA.

I'm learning that most of the larger dealerships or more established dealers are more likely to yield crappy cust. service...as was the case when I bought my bike as well. I drove about 75-100 miles outside of the city (usually better price) for my pruchase. Upon arrival, the salesman I spoke with over the tele seemed quite anal, short, and "all about the sale." (they sell a lot of bikes, too) Didn't bother to show or tell me much about the bike, just sign and go. Gonna have to be a heck of a good purchase to deal with them again.

Case in point: Today I went to a local dealer in town to purchase a headlight bulb. BTW, the blue ones suck in longevity. I here the wheelies may have something to do with that though(HEHEHEHE). Anyway, I approached the parts counter where 1 rep. was on the tele with another cust. and the other guy was standing there conversating with his friends about something that happened in the past. So I stood there for about 5 minutes (no one acknowledged I was standing there), which is a long time to listen to another's conversation when you have a paying customer waiting for assistance. I HATE THAT!!!!!!!!!!! Serve the customer, then talk about nothing later. BTW, this is not the only incident I've had with these guys, just the most recent. A letter will be mailed tomorrow. Probably won't do any good seeing as though it's family owned and operated. Their dealership has fallen to the bottom of my list for patronage. To end, the rep on the tele has to tell the other guy to help me with my purchase..probably should've let him continue with his conversation as he knew the answer to nothing that I asked him. I just had my bike serviced there last week. You may ask, does he remember you? He's the guy who quoted me $6400.00 for my 01 with (then) 1,800miles and slip-on.

No thankyou, come again or nothing. Off to the next dealer.

P.S. Please understand my point. I've learned to avoid scammers. When investing in an asset such as this, I NEVER reveal my occupation as they'll try to get all they can. I dress down and wait for someone to approach me. This way no one knows that you can buy whatever bike you want. When people think you're loaded, their behavior changes...so i just wait. The same thing happended to my dad in the 70's-walked into a honda dealership, cash to buy and no one even bothered to ask if they could help. All he needed was someone that wanted to make some money. Jokers. Wrote them a nice detailed letter. Then they wanted to help. What can we do to earn your business? Too late buddy. The old saying is quite true, NEVER judge a book by its cover! So, when that guy with the torn jeans, worn out tennis shoes and tee shirt comes into your dealership, look down toward his/her pockets for the bulge before you ignore him/her!!

Off the soap box,

Dr. A

Yes, there is a reason why I bought the 01. I like the looks and feeling of the 01. The 02 feels like it was stretched out - the 01 in my opion has a much tighter feeling.

Anyone try to bring a canadian bike or 49-state into California? I've heard they won't allow you to do so if it has less than 7500 miles. Would like confirmation on this, a friend of mine is picking up a new liquid silver R1 for $11,750 out the door, not a bad price, but I'd love to save her an extra $500 or $1000!!!

I live in B.C. and paid $ 13,445.00 It was the best few bucks I ever spent. I never got a deal, but when I saw the bike for the very first time I almost came in my pants. I probably would have spent $ 15,000 without even blinking an eye............ R1 forever :thumbup
