This thread will be reserved for info and convention talk. The convention is open to all ALL RIDERS and ALL kinds of motorcycles. Our small convention has grown over the years but we do ask that if you sign up for the convention that you sign up as a member of the R1-forum.com or R6-forum.com!

FUNDS REQUIRED:

$115 per person (includes dinner each night).
$20 for a convention shirt.

Total is $135 per person (make sure to add an extra $5 for paypal fees if you are sending funds from your paypal account). Keep in mind you are welcome to attend without eating nightly meals, this is an accomodation for members.

Paypal Funds shall be sent to DanQ at DanQ@SoFastSoClean.com. If you have any questions Dan or myself can answer them anytime. Make sure you include your complete info when signing up (full real names + screen names of people attending and that you clearly identify that the funds are for the convention deals gap trip).


Each year we have the nightly meals catered. For those that have attended in the past you know that these meals are TOP NOTCH!

Here are the details to date:

Dinners will still be Monday-Friday and each year Yamaha usually sponsors Dinner on Saturday. If you can't come the whole week at least try and get there by Wed or Thursday. The whole area is unbelievable during the week when things aren't as crowded.

LODGING: We do get discount rates, but you MUST tell Fontana Village you are with the Yamaha R1 Forum Group to get the discount rates and so that they put you with us. If there are any problems ask to speak with Debbie or just let me know. Their phone number is 1-800-849-2258. Make your reservations early. IT WILL FILL UP!!! It would really suck to not be able to get a cabin at Fontana:yesnod

Look at their website and inquire with them, by phone, to make your choice. 1-800-849-2258. I would suggest making reservations as early as you can, everywhere fills up that time of year up there.

They have blocked off 22 cabins and 10 lodge rooms for us. So start making reservations as soon as you can. After March 1st, 2011 they will be released to the general public and WILL sell out. SO GET YOUR RESERVATIONS MADE ASAP!!!

For the guys coming up as singles I would suggest getting together with other folks on the Forum and splitting the cost of a small or large cabin. There are gonna be several cabins available.

Fontana also has campsites available if you want to camp. They are approximately a mile down the road.


Everyone is welcome - but please realize that this group is made up with many types of riders of different skill levels and desires. This is not about getting together to race, or to drag other people into riding above their limits! Everyone is expected to ride at their own pace and have a good time!


REMEMBER: Deadline is April 30th, 2011 for all funds!!!

PHOTOGRAPHY: We will have a professional photographer in attendance.

PRIZES: Of course we will have prizes like each year. These will be given out at the Yamaha dinner on Saturday night. You HAVE to be a member of the R1 Forum or R6 Forum and also on the definates list to be eligible for the Prize drawing.

We have some killer prizes every year so you need to make sure I put you on the definates list if you are coming. No maybes, WE said definates...please remember that.

Everyone can sign up by replying to this thread or sending a PM to myself or DanQ and we will put you on the list.

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFO: Everyone must fill out the sheet upon check-in at the reservation desk of the Fontana Lodge.

Here are some of the events that will be held during the week.

Monday-Friday

6:30 PM will be dinner on Stonehenge (cabin and fire pit area at Fontana).
Cross Roads Lunch (usually everyone meets at the CROT for lunches daily)


Saturday

1 pm Annual Ride to Overlook
6:30 pm is the Big Yamaha Sponsored dinner. The prize giveaway will be during this also. .

Most everything is discussed and planned out in the evenings around dinner and hanging out. If you want to get up a ride or find out where people are going the next day come up to Shuckstack Road and hang out. If you get to Fontana during the day just head to the CROT and you will find someone from the forum.

Wednesday Group Ride to Yamaha / Luncheon

This year we aren't visiting a dealership. Myself and Chuck Graves will be leading a ride along with Team Zyvax racing owner JB Layman from the gap through the Elijay mountains then a quick trip down 575 to Kennesaw, Georgia where Yamaha's eastern distribution center is. Wednesday June 15, please meet the group riders at the HELLBENDER store located directly at the entrance at Fontana Village (www.fontanavillage.com) at 7am. If you would like to have breakfast before the ride you can be at the deals gap store ( www.dealsgap.com ) at 7am where some of us will be eating breakfast before the ride. at around 8:15 am the two groups will meet together at the Deals Gap Resort to head out on the ride.

We will be given a lunch courtesy of Yamaha USA and a tour of the facility and they are arranging prizes as well!

This is a huge deal and doesn't happen often. I'd like EVERYONE to head over with us. It works out to be a 2.5 hour ride if I remember we'll stop in the middle.

Greg just brought his dj stuff to shuckstack. Worked out pretty good. And most likely will work out better this year since we'll have more time to plan. Fontana sold their house boat just a few days before we were supposed to have the party. Or at least they didn't tell anyone until a few days before.

probably the same type game. its a 2' x 4' board on an incline with a 6 inch hole in it that you toss corn filled bags onto/into. its theres 4 bags per person/team & you try to get them in the hole. in the hole is 3 points...on the board is 1 point & the other person/team can cancel out your points just like in horse shoes. you play to 21. here are my boards i made. its alot of fun & similar to horse shoes...washer toss...ect. its big at cook outs..parties... tail gating blah blah blah

As a side note: Some of the bigger changes are we have moved to the "Stonehenge" area for the center point. The stack was getting a little run down and the new area will allow for nightly bon fires and a better atmosphere!

I have a trip planned for next year to deals gap so hopefully I can attend, just need to get the week off. I'll be riding down from NY, so I can only be in the area for 2 days. taking 2 days to get there 2 days to get back. Is that trouble?

That would be a rough trip. Might want to see if anyone is coming down that has trailer space. We have folks attending from all over the country, and even other countries.

Agreed. Coming down is not a problem, but heading back home probably would be. Your asking a lot from your body. You'll be putting many hours on your bike in an not very comfortable position. Plus, riding hard when at the Gap. We should have several riders coming from the upper East Coast. Maybe you can trailer down or back up with one of them.

I've taken r1's across the country. Ny to NC is no big deal at all. Trailering my bike there would take away from the adventure.

Well you can always just wear your leathers on the flight which makes going through security fun, or just use some of mine.

i agree if i had that far to go with a limited budget & time restraints id look at this option as well. plus you cant beat getting picked up atthe airport to boot lol

I'll get the rental prices later, just want an idea on the flights and enquire about visa requirements so long to get an estimate.

Had Atlanta in the back of my mind, just wasn't sure if it's international. Will look into the flights so long, works got me by the ballz for now but I might make June and I'll probably hop over from dakar, which is closer.

2011 is a 50% for now 2012 I'll kill to get there. Need to do a bit of homework first, South african passports are not the easiest to get visa's everywhere. If I have proof of accomodation, a two way ticket and possibly a letter of invatation it should be good.

Nahhh. As I was telling Dan... We had a blowout on I-81 just north of Roanoke on the way home this year. Nailbiter pretty much hated traveling in the RV (a.k.a. Scary Rolling Death Machine) anyway. She loved staying in it but not riding in it, so after sitting for an hour and a half two feet from 80mph big rigs while changing the tire, well... You get the idea.

Traded in the RV, the SRT-8 and a Jeep on a new diesel Ram.

I did it from Washington, rented a bike and travel for 2 days to Fontana.

Hopefully I will do it again this year.

I'll need to get a few prices on flights, but so far it seems cheapest is to Washington, if I book a connect flight the price almost doubles. But no problem. I think best would be to get to Washington and then use one of your cheaper local flights to Hop to Tennessee or Charlotte.

There might be a chance to get my flights sponsored, timeline is at this stage unknown, work sucks :fact :lol

I only got to ride about half of it this year because as we were going down the road, mile by mile, we noticed a green and blue dark cloud of horror ahead of us and decided to turn back before we got caught in it. In effect...I only got to ride about half of it! I wanna ride the whole thing! :jump

Won't be long till Winter gets here. Although, it's our best time of the year to ride. I'm a disgrace. Our best time to ride and I don't. :lol Parked and covered the bike in the garage when I got home from the Convention the first week in June. Haven't been on it since then. ...i would advise a trailor...so that way when u get there u will enjoy riding w/o ur butt hurting from ur travel...the 1st time i went i rode the R1, didnt ride as hardas i would have liked to, the second time i trailored and pushed my limits alil. Made the trip so much more worth it....

If you can you may want to get there earlier than Friday. There are so many good roads out there it would be impossible to see most of them in 2 days. Plus on Saturday we have lunch, and a group ride/photo, then the sponsored dinner, so Saturday is a pretty full day.

The rates depend on what you are looking to rent. They have lodge rooms of different types, and cabins from 2 - 4 BR, with different accommodations. Best to call 1-800-849-2258 and ask for Group Sales. Please specify that you are contacting them about the Yamaha Convention (R1/R6-Forums) in order to get our rate as well as be included in our count. They will give you the rates available for what you need.

The dinners go by the day, so if you change your mind you would just need to pay for the days that you are present. Makes it easier at the end of the day to just get off the bike, take off your helmet and have a meal.

just called Fontana to make reservation for a single cabin and was told we don't have any single cabins on our contract. I also asked for Debbie and she is laid off. I' have to call back tomorrow and talk to Tim to see what they can do.

I just installed the velocity stacks and I'm in the middle of doing the smog block off plates. Already made the appointment to get it tuned on the Dyno.

Now all we need is for winter to get over!

Nice combo. The velocity stacks do a great job, and the smog plates in addition to taking care of the deceleration pop make it SO much easier to install new spark plugs.

That's great, I put new plugs in last year and it was a pain.
I also knocked out the cat, put the race baffles in the stock cans and a power commander. I'm hoping with the tune I will get some more ponies out of it.

Ack...seems I've made a slight miscalculation with regards to my vacation time at work. I used seven days of vaca just now for my wedding and honeymoon...so it looks like I'll have to make a late showing around Wednesday timeframe.

You can s till come to the convention or check out the track day. I'm ok with putting together a beginners intro to the track as well.

I'm waiting on the final AMA schedules to make the formal announcements for everything...
