jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:00 AM Yes ......... I know there are Greggs flush-mounts and yes I know Huge Industries sell them but I wanted to do it myself.
I made all the parts out of a scrap off-cut of 4mm aluminium so, apart from the cost of the indicators (£15 per pair) the only cost was my time.
I decided to polish the front exterior pieces and satin-black the rear ones. I also satin-blacked the rear backing clamp pieces as they can be seen from certain angles.
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:13 AM The first job was to make an accurate template. Take your time doing this as it will reflect in the finished article. You only have to make one template as all four indicators are identical ..... So it's worth the extra effort.
The card template was only used for the first off fitment. When that fitment was "perfected", it was used to trace all the other pieces.
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:17 AM This picture shows all the components for a complete front set.
As I said, the backing clamp pieces on the front fitments do not require any great effort in their appearance as they cannot be seen.
If you prefer them to be black / red / blue or whatever, that is your choice. The polished finish does look good though (in my humble opinion anyway).
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:20 AM This is one of the polished, front exterior fitments. I will probably polish it further (one day !!!)
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:21 AM The finished article...............
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:25 AM Remember:-
1 ... Gregs make good indicators (for about $100)
2 ... Huge Industries make ready made kits for mini-indicators for about $20 per pair.
3 ... You should get a real buzz out of making them yourself. I used a piece of scrap ally, a hack-saw, two files, some emery cloth, some wet and dry paper, some under-coat and satin-black spray paint and a bit of polishing compound.
4 ... The whole job took me about 4 hours :cryin but its raining and I can't get out to ride anyway.
5 ... Some mini-indicators are not road legal (certainly in the UK). I used Oxfords as they are 'E' marked.
And:-
5 ... Take time making a "perfect" template. It will save time in the long run.
6 ... Feather the lower edge on the front exterior pieces to fit the curvature of the fairing.
Good luck if you choose to go this way ......... :hellobye ............
Mattiaz 03-02-2003, 10:31 AM Nice!
Have you got any photos of the signals on?
Or maybe even a video so I can see how bright they are...
By the way, did you have to connect a new relay, or do they blink at normal rate, I´ve heard they are 21watts compared to the original ones that are 10watts...
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:35 AM Matt ........ trust me on this one. They (Oxfords) are about 50% brighter than the originals as they ...............
......... Hang on, I'll try to get a pic :lol
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:41 AM Now where was I ..............
Oh yes ...... they are fitted with 21 watt tubes.
The debate rages on about Greggs .... in particular, can they be seen from the front etc..... These most certainly can (and from the side).
But why are they flashing so fast ...... Oh yes, no back ones on yet :lol
Mattiaz 03-02-2003, 10:57 AM Hmm, I wonder if its possible to fit a 10watt bulb straight into the indicators, instead of the 21watt bulb.
Maybe its also possible to fot Gregs bulbs into the arrow-ones to.. :)
jdyzf750 03-02-2003, 10:58 AM I chose:-
1 ... Oxfords coz they are "Road legal" ('E' marked for the UK).
2 ... Arrow shaped coz they "match" the head lights
3 ... Carbon look coz theres a bit of that around the front of a red 2000 R1.

Not sure about that as they're pretty small in there. They are however more than bright enough in their original form.

Hmmm, I´ll just have to wait and see. I´ve ordered similar to those (The LP ones...) And I´m hoping I don´t have to connect a new relay, or some resistans..
However, If I should go for the mod wich uses bulbs from Gregg in the housings of the LP, then i have to buy a Libertek flasher relay, cause I have already got the Gregs flushmounts i the front, and these LP are for the rear, just gonna make a combined Turnsignal/plate holder.
Ofcourse i also have made my parkinglights into turnsignals, acting at the same time as the Gregg´s :D So I´m visible both from the front and from the sides :fact
tidbit 03-02-2003, 11:55 AM auh i love my section.. :fact nice work man.. keep it up!
