Just picked these up yesterday after returning a pair of Alpinestars SMX. I returned the 'stars' after wearing them a bit because I was not comfortable with the fit around the ankle. The stars pinched a bit. These do not.

The review:

Positives:

1. Fit - I am pleased with the comfort level of these boots. I have been wearing them now for several hours so as to get used to them before riding. The weather sucks as it is so I'm taking this opportunity to break them in a bit. After several hours wear, I have no discernable levels of discomfort.
2. Protection - Obviously I haven't crashed with them but all appearances are very good. At the heel and ankle, the coverage is adequate. I'm don't recall if the 'stars' had this feature but the ankle & achilles protectors work together in a 'sheath' fashion to allow flexibility vertically along the rear of the leg up to my calf. Again this is very comfortable and reassuring.
The outside protection along the side and front of the foot also appear sturdy and are of course replaceable if necessary.
The shin and high ankle areas are also well protected.

Negatives: Only a few

1. I haven't worn leathers with these yet. I'm in the market right now and am looking for advice on what to get. That said, the room at the top of the boot seems a bit tight. Clearly people wear these boots all the time but I wonder about clearance for the shin protection provided by the leather suit. I tried on a Dianese suit the other day with my 'stars' and the shin protection from the suit fit nicely at the top of the boot. These are a bit tighter so I'm not sure.
2. Inside ankle 'patch' - I know it would probably scuff up the bike a bit but the outside ankle protection has a solid (I think it's Lorica) protector wheras the inside protection is a leather patch.
3. Velcro - I'm neutral on how long the 'stick' is going to last.

Summary: I really like these boots a lot. They're comfortable, seem to offer good protection, and were obtained at a reasonable cost from a dealer (no really!!!). They are comparable protection wise to the 'stars' and fit me better.

Walking around seems to be fine. I wouldn't consider them as an alternative for a regular boot or shoe but they aint too bad.

Since you mentioned sizing. I regularly wear a size 11.5 to 12 shoe and got the boots in size 45 which says size 10.5. I'm not sure if all boots size in this fashion but if anyone is looking to buy boots over the net, I would recommend at least trying on a pair first. I tried on the Alpinestars SMX and then the Alpinestars Supertechs in the same size and there was a huge difference in fit. The Supertech's were much roomier.

I normally take a size 45 but I found that a 45 in the Sidi road boots was too tight and had to get a 46. My MX boots (also Sidi) are a 45 and fit fine. Be careful if mail ordering them - try some on at a shop first.

i would try them on, but no one around here carries boots. (but they can order them! :2bitchsla) yeah if they order them i have to buy them. So i just went by other peoples recommendations on sizing, i wear a 10 in DM's and an 11 in adidas running shoes.

If you need more room up top just loosen the screws in the back with the supplied wrench and let out some of the material then retighten the screws. This adjustment feature is just one of the things that make this boot so awesome. Also, it's not real leather so it won't stretch much.

Supplied wrench? Mine didn't come with one. I just ordered a new suit so I'll spy it out when the suit gets here. Thanks for the heads up though. Also, it turns out I didn't get such a great deal from my local dealer. I found a guy closer who will sell em for 20.00 less than the discounted price I paid & he has newer stuff too. I guess that old saying 'Let the buyer beware' still holds true. You're right though, they are good boots.

I am confused now:(

From what I hear SIDI's run big so if you wear a 10.5 Nike's then a SIDI 44 should fit you OK. What your saying is that you wear a size 11.5/12 and bought a SIDI 45 (which says 10.5 on the box) and it fits you OK.....???????????

Is this correct?

I wear a US size 12 in most brands. I just bought SIDI Verebra Air Carbon's in size 47 and they fit great. My toes rubbed in the 46's.

I wear boots in 8W, this usually translates to a 42 but My feet are so wide at the toes that all other brands would pinch the top of my foot, very uncomfortable. I have size 43 Vert 2's and they are like butter. My only *small* problem is that they are a bit loose in the heel so I may have to try thicker socks...

nuihc01, how much did you pay? I got mine for $189 shipped on a group buy at R6 Messagenet.

yea id say your fine unless your foot is wide. i wear a 10.5 in nike and my 44 fit good. the alpine stars have a different toe shape and tend to give a little more room for the little toe.

do you have any feeling with those things on?

yea the top toe area is a little stiff until it breaks in but the soles are noticablely more senstive than boots. with my hikers i cant tell exactly where my foot is on the peg but with the sidis i can.

No big loss. It's a triangular keychain thing with a phillips screwdriver on one corner and a 2.5 mm allen wrench on another. It's kind of hard to get mine all the way into the sockets on the allen screws.

Just use a 2.5 allen to loosen the screws and slide the cuff until it fits around your leathers.

My Alpinestars are a 45... so are my Sidis and they fit fine, though a little different through the foot.

I wear a 10 1/2 or 11 shoe.

I don't have the opportunity to try on any boots, and was also going the mail order route. I was told the Alpinestar will match a street shoe size, but if you have a wider foot, increasing the size is a good idea.
To me the only thing worse than shoes that are too big is shoes that are too small. Any advice for Alpinestars and/or SIDI?
Thanks

nuihc01, what kind of suit did you end up getting?

My SIDI's are slightly big. I'm between sizes 41 and 42. The 41's are too tight, and with the 42's my ankle lifts out when I'm walking around. My advice, get some insoles (Dr. Scholl's or whatever). I added them in, and now they fit perfect! And they're more comfortable too. Some people recommend wearing 2 pairs of socks, but that just seems like too much. Just my $.02.
