`bertr1` 03-03-2003, 01:11 PM Why did you start riding?
my love affair with sportbikes started with...yes...TOPGUN! That ninja ruled...I remember thinking every bike was a ninja...and I would always own one, but now I wont go near kawi...haha. To this day everytime I ride twisties when I start concentrating hard I start singing 'Highway to the dangerzone' at the top of my lungs...how about you?
LiquidR1 03-03-2003, 01:23 PM Your gay aren't you!!!!:lol :lol J/K
I've always had a thing for bikes. I could never have one while I lived at home. After I moved out and saved up some stock I decided to go and buy a bike for my B-day. It was an impulse buy and the best investment I ever made!!! I loved paying cash for that thing too. It was a 99' Suzuki gsxr 600. I loved that bike.
`bertr1` 03-03-2003, 07:54 PM dude!! how does topgun make you gay?? that movie is full of cars, bikes and jets killing other guys with cars, bikes, in jets...
LiquidR1 03-04-2003, 04:44 AM I was just kidding. Top gun doesn't make you gay!!! That's imposible.:fact :fact .
Sorry if I offended you I was only kidding.:yesnod
LiquidR1 03-04-2003, 04:44 AM I'm surprised no else has replied to this by now.

1700warrior 03-04-2003, 11:56 AM I pretty much grew up being on the back of either a GL-1000 Goldwing or a V65 Magna. My dad got rid of both about 10 or so years ago. During that time till last year my parents threatened to kick my ass if I bought a bike. I went in last year wanting a dirt bike or a Raptor, but started looking at street bikes instead. I figure f*ck it, I'm almost thirty, they can get over it and if they can't, they gotta catch me first!!:rock My dad kinda understands, but my mom chimes off every now and then how I need to get rid of the bike. Yeah, when they pry the handlbars from my cold, dead fingers:finger Haven't looked back since:D

Canadian R1 03-04-2003, 06:13 PM Well one day about 7 or so years ago i picked up cycle world mag. Was obsesed for about a year it died off then about three years ago it came back so after my break up with my first gf I said **** it time to do this. So I went out found myself a good 97 yzf 600 and loved it very comfortable. Rode it two year then upgraded to the one. Love every min of it just got back from a 1.5 hour ride in 5 degree weather. Only problem is im 6'5'' so i get sore after a while. Anyways thats about it i guess.
Smoke 03-05-2003, 12:35 PM My love for bikes came from my Evil Kenievel jump-through-flaming-hoop motorcycle toy I had when I was a kid. Also from watching Fonzie ride on Happy Days.
I remember at 16yrs old I sat on an FZR 600 at a bike show, the bike looked awesome but I thought I was too young and crazy. Still wanted a motorcycle so I waited 5 years 'till I grew up a bit and had some money. Ended up buying the same style FZR 600 and loved it. All of a sudden riding motorcycles changed from something I wanted to do, to being a part of my life. When I saw the R1 in '98 I knew that was gonna be my next bike, I just had to save up more $$ and a bit more confidence to move up in bike class. I then bought my R1 on June 27th, 2000.
UnToldFoX 03-06-2003, 07:34 PM Man, i can't remember how many times i watched that movie, top gun, best bloody movie ever. what i didnt know till a couple years ago is that it was made in like 1985, my god, thats old! i love the jets, and the scene when Tom is almost racing a jet, like a kawi would ever beat a f14!! hahah, R1 would!
My first dream bike was a Honda Hurricane. Saw one when I was young and thought they were the shiznit. Now there just TOP TURDS. The first time I saw an R1 I was like oh my God, I'm buying one of those. I waited till I could afford one then did. I still to this day haven't seen a nicer bike. And I love the way my ride wheelies like a MOFO, I love goofing off. When is our group going to set up a ride, I want to do the Sea to Sky HWY to Whistler. Somebody put something together ie, date/time/and place to meet. I guess it will have to wait till it stop's snowing. Can you believe it!.... Snow in March for fu*k sakes.
R1 GIRL B.C. 04-02-2003, 04:48 PM My love for motorcycles has always been strong. I rode on the back of many bikes and always said to the owner "can we go faster please?!" Then four years ago I realized that for the first time every I didn't have a boyfriend or a male friend that rode a bike. I then said to myself, "heck! If I can buy a helmet (I had bought my own already before), I could buy a bike!" I booked off some vacation time, signed up for riding school and bought my very first bike, an F3. I always knew I wanted a "blue" bike though, I just couldn't afford one at first.
In my first three months of riding, a friend of mine who had bought an R1 as his very first bike asked if I wanted to switch for a couple hours that day. I said "sure, why not, I always wanted a blue bike!" not having any idea what an R1 was or the power it could deliver at a slight twist of the wrist. I wasn't intimidated though, that day of riding went well and I have been in love with the R1 ever since. I have worked very hard to be the proud owner of my current R1 (my 2nd actually since I had an '01 before my '02).
I think the Yammi R1 is the sexiest bike out there and I think its even sexier for a chick to ride it. I do have a girlfriend though who rides a GSXR 1000 (we met two years ago, both having R6s at the time). I gave much thought to the question, "If you won the lottery, would you buy a different bike or keep what you have?" Heck, I have the best bike out there, so I'm good for now thanks!
I've always wanted to ride years before but no one had a bike then in 94 my buddy and I finally got a pair of CBR 600F2's
R1-73 04-02-2003, 05:19 PM I´ll go with "bertyzfr1".
after have seen Top Gun i just couldn´t stop thinking of bikes.
it´s been a couple of years but hey the movie still rocks.
i just love the "USA" feeling. here in sweden it went straight the top. they just dont make movies like that. either to f-cking serious or to much blood & brainblowing. wait a minute... i have no problem with real action but the smooth feeling and the colours just dream like. dont you think.
either way it just took the last 20 years total money income away from me... R1 there is no substitute!
KeysR1 04-02-2003, 05:42 PM I have always loved bikes. It started as a kid, I rode a mini bike with a 3hp Briggs and Stratton engine.:lol I tried everything to make it go a little faster, homeade exhaust octane booster. Did not really help, but sure was fun. From there I had to wait until I moved out for a real bike. Many long years..... Then I got a cheap beater 250 Suziki dirt bike. It died and I got a 125 Kawi. (actually better than the 250) dirtbike. Got into Jetskis for awhile. Then I found my passion...streetbikes. I looked at Harley's thinking that would be cool. Decided they were not that great, especially for the money. I even kicked around a Virago. I decided being the speed/adrenaline junkie I am those just would not do. I ended up starting with an R6 for about a year and a half. Given my propensity to go as fast as possible I figured for the sake of my own life I should at least start with something less than a liter bike. Sold it and got the 1. I have never looked back.... The 1 rocks.:rock
`bertr1` 04-02-2003, 06:44 PM Yeah in Calgary some buddies and I were joking about winning the lottery, and my bud said "if I win, I will buy us all 998R's" I was like...I dont want one...maybe a full Ohlins setup for my R1!!!
Blackvisor 04-02-2003, 07:21 PM Top Gun rocks:rock closely followed by Predator,Time to let ole painless out the bag!!!:D
Blackvisor 04-02-2003, 07:24 PM R1-73 either way it just took the last 20 years total money income away from me... R1 there is no substitute

Blackvisor 04-02-2003, 07:30 PM Me and my mate did the 3 day bike test in the uk in "94,then i waited and another mate and me got CBR600"s,brand new in "96,never looked back since,2 CBR900RR-T blades since and now CBR-RR-Y "01 ...never looked back and dont i think will be without a bike as long as i can ride.

R1-73 04-03-2003, 01:55 AM Started out on a suzuki 50cc. When i got 17 i bought a yamaha rd 500 -85 i think its called RZ 500 i USA. it didnt work so i restrored it ian did a stage 3 tuning while i was at it. not so smart having a 500 cc stage 3 tuned two stroke as you´re first bike. well i survived. next was a Yamaha FZ750 -89 and the year after i had a economic crise so i got a Honda Dominator. damn i missed the power. the next summer i was without a ride so i borrowed my friends girlfrends Yamaha FZR 600 to ride with the guys. well i had to get my own bike again so i bought a Honda VTR 1000F put on dynojet, KN airfilter, steel brake lines, lot of carbon fiber new painting and loud carbon pipes. still have it in my garage. but last year i got the Yamaha R1 -99. a new world was discovered.
Beware of The One. did a tankslapper in 150Km/h for about 30m.
didn´t ride it again untill i got a LSL steering damper installed.
But it is the most extreme bike i´ve ever ridden. its like a knife carving corners. love my old R1 (RIP) but i´m gonna get me a new one soon.....
My dad used to take me for rides on the back of his bike (he had standards) and always loved it. He freaked when I brought home the 500 Interceptor, though. lol. Bike after bike... loved them all. After the first one, I always had to have one--even if I couldn't ride it.
scottb 04-13-2003, 10:36 AM Got my first bike when I was 14 (Yamaha 60), went Yamaha 100, Yamaha 350 (upswept pipes version), CB350, GPz 750 and now R1. I went for ten years without a bike before the GPz...aaargh...that'll never happen again. I guess what got me started is that I could have a bike (under 100cc) when I was 14, but no car til 16, so waddya gonna do?
mikecam 05-10-2003, 02:18 PM I started riding in 1986 on a FZ 750. In 1991 I bought my first brand new bike, Fzr 1000 red and white. Took it out last year for the first time and with 7 kms on it got cut off by a women with no divers licence and spent the night in the Hosp. Took a year off and this year got the 03 R1 silver and have not been able to take the smile off my face since.
yamahog 05-10-2003, 02:45 PM I got my first bike (suzuki jr50) when I was 3. I have always had some kind of bike ever since. When I was 14 I bought a junk GPZ off of the neighbor and wrenched on it until it ran, on 3 cylinders (lol). I had all of my kids on PW 50's with training wheels when they were all 3. I am also lucky becuase my wife is an adreniline junky as well, so I never catch any flack about spending money of bikes, atv's, waverunners, etc.
MiniMike 05-13-2003, 10:09 PM Women love sportbikes and 0-100 km/h in 3 secs. or less can not be done in ANY $15,000 car. Oh yeah, bikes r ****kin pimp.
