velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:11 AM It's not perfect but it looks a lot better then having open holes under the tail also it will keep water from getting in through the holes.
keep in mind that the paint is not dry yet and I haven't cleaned it up yet
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:16 AM First you are going to need some fiberglass resin and fiberglass cloth also some wax paper and a bottle of goof-off because you will spill some resin and this stuff wipes it right off.
cut a small peice of cloth big enough to cover all of the holes and place it over the holes on the inside of the tail....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:18 AM next cut a peice of wax paper a little larger then the cloth and place it over the cloth, the reason for the wax paper is that the resin will not stick to wax paper.....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:19 AM next take some duct tape and place it around the wax paper so that it is nice and tight....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:20 AM flip it over and you are ready to mix/pour the resin...
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:27 AM now if you have never messed around with this stuff be careful because it's messy. You need to mix the resin with the hardener correctly because if you put to much hardener in it will get hard very quickly also it will get extremely hot, hot enough to melt plastic. Don't worry though, just follow the directions on mixing and you will be fine. I used a plastic spoon to pour it into the holes and make sure you wipe the bottom of the spoon on top of the mixing bowl/cup because it will drip and if you get any resin just spray some goof-off on some paper towel and it will wipe it right off.....take your time pouring it into the holes....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:32 AM the idea is to get the resin to come close to the edge but not all the way to the top, if you pour to much in and you have a bubble or an arch just take a nail and gently push it down but you can only do this when you first pour it and it is not starting to get hard.
sorry this pic is blurry because I was trying to get it right and take the pic....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:33 AM here it is dry....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:34 AM flip it over and take off the tape and wax paper and it should look something like this
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:36 AM now mix some more resin and apply a decent coat over the cloth, dabbing it with a paint brush.....paint brush will be no good after you do this.....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:39 AM after everything is dry flip it back over and it is ready for the paint marker....oops I forgot to mention that you need the paint pen rom color rite....I just dabbed it on and fiiled up the depressions with paint.....
velocityboy 03-07-2003, 08:42 AM the paint is not perfect but that is the right paint and it is meant for small chips but it does the job.....if anyone has any questions please post them on this thread so I only have to answer them once....
:p
Corny 03-07-2003, 09:15 AM I'm going to get a black tuning fork logo with the silver backround to cover it up if I mount the plate under the highmount exhaust.
silver bullet 03-08-2003, 04:25 PM This paint pen where would you get a color rite marker at? Do they have Silver? I have silver paint pens for models and other stuff if they are the same I guess I could just use that unless Colorite's are a better product.
Very well done mate, I look forward to seeing what else you get up to...
:) :) :)
aaronr6 03-08-2003, 04:38 PM I kinda did the same thing, but I filled my holes with fiberglass and then repainted the whole thing.
aaronr6 03-08-2003, 05:01 PM Maybe this pic will work

Very nice....I don't want to put a lot of effort into something that is going to get chipped from rocks that's why I only went this far. But your undertail looks awesome....
