: Sticky gearbox

I bought a used 2000 R1 some time ago, and I have noticed
one annoying feature with the gearbox;

When I am really reving the engine and accelerating hard, the third
gear refuses to engage. Only after trying another two-three times does
it go in. This is happens if I am using the clutch when up-shifting.
Without the clutch the third goes in without any trouble.

However, in "normal" everyday use I don't notice this problem at all.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Clutch, gearbox?

I have checked the oil level, it is OK.

My bike has done 3000miles, and it has full one year of manufacturers
warranty left.

Cheers!

Make sure your chain is adjusted correctly. YouŽd be surprised, how chain tension affects the gearbox.

Sometimes I have problems getting into 2nd gear when pushing it hard. Still trying to determine if it is a problem or rider error. :D Doesn't happen all of the time. I've got a little over 4,300 on mine.

Sounds strange, but if you still have one years factory warrenty left why dont you drop of the bike at the dealer to have it sorted out.:)

Agreeing with Dave on this one.....if it's under warranty....let them deal with it...

I have a problem engaging 2nd gear sometimes .. don't have enough experience to know if it's me or the bike .. it's gotta be the bike :D

well my chain is loose so I'll see if that works when I ride next time..

There was another post that warned of specific oils used causing clutch slippage and inability to engage the drivetrain. If you look back, I believe that everyone tried to stay away from Motul. Maybe change your oil, or have the dealer do it for you if they cant find the exact cause of the problem.:confused:
