Graves AIS Plugs

For anybody getting ready to remove the AIS from their baby you should consider picking up some plugs from Graves. They just started selling these last week and use them on all their bikes. I just installed mine yesterday and all went well. They are machined aluminum and matched perfectly size-wise to the elbows I pulled out. A decent sized drift punch and a mallet had them installed in 5 minutes tops. Would have been shorter but I wanted to make sure I was hitting them square....front tire kind of gets in the way. It is another option instead of the heli-coil, tapping, bolt, silicone, etc. job. I know somebody is going to try and tell me they will blow out, but I don't see that happening. These babies press fit in there as tight or tighter than the elbows that came out. If the elbows stay in there and that tiny little AIS pump can push air in there to help with burning fuel, that indicates that pressures are not as high as you would think at the exhaust valve. Anyways, it seems cleaner, quicker, and is safer for those people who are not confident in tapping their cylinder heads. Grab $20 and give Josh a call over at Graves Motorsports. One other quick little trick I'll throw out there. When it came time to plugging the airbox connection where the AIS used to take it's air, I was thinking simple again. For definite security I grabbed a 59 cent screw connector 1-1/8 minimum to 1-9/16 maximum made out of plastic at the local hardware store. A little loctite to bind the threads and silicone under the heads for good measure. The head is the same diameter as the hole on both sides and gives a nice clean seal. The Digital camera is charging but I can put up some pictures later if anybody needs to see either one of these ideas. Hope this helps somebody, trying to make up for all the good info I always get from you guys.

Yeah....I already had them off because I was installing my full Hindle. I think it is worth pulling the headers and radiator to get this done right, though. It looked like it would be pretty tough to get the original elbows out much less pound in the plugs with that stuff installed.

No actually I just pushed them in with my finger.:lol No I see what you mean....I didn't even mention anything about preparation to installing them. When you put yours in, did you get them all the way flush?
