: Best Motard?
FireHouseCrew#5 05-24-2011, 10:41 PM Trying to pick a motard but not sure as to which one to work with. I like the suzuki drz 400sm because of the larger displacement than Yami's 250 or Kawi's 250 but not completely sold on it. Any suggestions or thoughts?
fjorn 05-25-2011, 03:07 AM What's your intended purpose? Track only, or street riding? There's a big difference between them.
Also, if it's street, are you looking at city speed riding (55mph and below) or being able to get up to interstate speeds (70mph)?
If you've been riding sportbikes then more than likely a 250 ain't gonna get the juices flowing.
GO 450...
There are TONS of CR450's & YZ / WR450's already ready to rock on Supermotojunkies or Thumpertalk for sale.
Shit, buy a new one & build it up like I did, lots of fun & pride.
mattf 05-27-2011, 08:30 AM I'd love to rock a 450....but I want a plate on my SuMo, and plating a 450 in NY is borderline next to impossible.
An Aprilia, Husky or KTM would be awesome, and they come plated and powerful. Bit expensive tho to both buy and maintain.
I've got a DRZ, and what it lacks in sex appeal and outright power it makes up for in being cheap to buy, run, insure and maintain. You can't kill the damn thing, and compared to the boutique brands, it's virtually maintenance free. And with a MONSTER aftermarket, carbs/cams/big bores/strokers can up the power potential in a big way.

ktm 690, husqvarna 510 or 630, husaberg 570, aprilia sxv 450 or 550. All good choices, just make sure you know what the maintenance intervals are like before you commit, because none of those brands are cheap to fix.
DRZ400 is a good all around bike, but personally I feel that they lack power for what they weigh. But there is plenty of aftermarket support for the drz that will fix that.
R1SoDaRkLy 06-22-2011, 08:24 PM KTM 625 LC4 SMC = Awesome!
dukeboy 06-24-2011, 02:26 PM the best motard is any one that you can get and ride

Accelerate 02-01-2012, 01:33 AM I think (from what I've gathered reading about Supermoto's because I have my eye out for one aswell) DRZ's have the least amount of servicing intervals and are alot cheaper to service than say, husa's or aprilia (who are dead expensive)
I'm curious to the servicing intervals of makers like KTM?

repoman 02-10-2012, 10:04 AM I've got a 2006 KTM 625 SMC, love love love it.
mattf 02-10-2012, 04:57 PM That CR500 is SICK (but it's gotta be $20-$25k!!!!)
Agg2001 02-10-2012, 05:12 PM check out any ktm with the lc4 motor. i've got a 625smc and absolutely get a hard-on every time i grab the throttle. pulls like my R6 up to ~80mph. and has maintenance intervals that aren't like other motards (7500 mile valve checks, and ~2500-3500 mile oil changes). they're great bikes... and the motors have been known to last upwards of 50k miles on a regular basis. some as high as 70k before they rebuild the topend just to get some "giddup" back. ;)
da rza 03-05-2012, 12:34 AM heres some new picks of my motard...doing braketech rotors soon deciding on stainless or iron? installed quickshifter and new seatcover just did a weigh in and dynoed her after 10k on big bore, cams, crank etc..still pumping close to 110 rwhp at the 356lbs dry..stock motor did 5k till rebuild...16k total
