morepower 03-11-2003, 03:33 PM Has any one got or had a stroker crank in an R1 I am concidering putting a 4mm over stroker in mine and then boring it out to 1155cc.See my baby crank attached.
I want too know what it reved like and kind of power you got?

GringoR1 03-11-2003, 03:50 PM Not to sound like a tard, but what does a stroker crank do? I'm assuming it brings up the compression of the motor which in return brings up the torq and hp??
If someone could explain I would appriciate it!:yesnod
morepower 03-11-2003, 03:56 PM A stroker crank makes the engine larger as it has a longer stroke .so if you take standard as 999cc and divide by standard stroke at 58mm you get 17.224 then multiply by the new stroke of 62mm you get 1067.8cc.This stroke alone but if you bore it out to 77mm bore you then get 1155cc.
Rich Vanags
BTurnerR1 03-11-2003, 03:58 PM I have been advised before not to bore a R1 motor.
GringoR1 03-11-2003, 04:02 PM So by doing this would you need larger pistons, new rods etc.... and would it also bring up compression? I'm new at the internals, would just like to have an idea on all this stuff ;)
morepower 03-11-2003, 04:02 PM World sidecars use 77mm bore and cometic do a gasket off the shelf as well as JE Pistons do a piston off the shelf. So it can't be that bad I hope or I am in the sh1t!!!!!!!!!

martinc 03-11-2003, 04:11 PM Maybe you are,maybe you"re not!
Those kits greatly reduce the life of an engine...
Please do it and report back to us!!!
morepower 03-21-2003, 01:35 PM :D :D
Just spoke too someone who had done almost the same conversion and he had no real problems exept for keeping the front down.He had 200BHP at the rear wheel but his was a longer stroke than mine.64mm mines 62mm.Said it still revs well and LOTS more power everywhere!
All I need now is some rods and I want some cams and carbs but they can wait until I get some more money.
MORE POWER.........
Let the ass kicking begin.
Andreas Miko 03-25-2003, 05:53 AM Where did you get the crank from. I am thinking of going this way too.

morepower 03-25-2003, 12:44 PM That crank is one I made for myself, but in the US you can get a very similar one from Orient Express. The crank is made in the UK and sold through p3 Unlimited I don't know the cost in the US so you will have to call Orient 516-546-5232 or 800-645-6521.
The spec is material EN40B,hardened and tempered and the nitrided for 90hours.I think I have made the ultimate R1 Crank as it's not a weld up and it's done for road racing BUT I have not finished with all the components yet as I want over 200BHP and stuff like that takes time sorting out. When I have done it I will make a conversion kit with all the bits to do the same.
So far the engine spec looks like this, Billet 62mm stroke crank,Arrow titanium con rods,77mm JE pistons with a slightly different height to standard,Kent full race cams Sorry I can't remember the code #, Cometic 77mm bore gasket,REC one piece valves with the centre inlet 1mm oversize then I have to get the block bored, sleeved and finish bored. The when it's running sort out some 41mm FCR Mikuni carbs with a ram air airbox, hopefully I can sort out a Yoyodyne slipper clutch when he finally gets one made with a Dyson close ratio gearbox to suit the bigger engine.
It's a project and a half but I am getting bored in my old age(36) and want to build a GP bike for the road. The engine is only a small part of the total package but if I can't do it now I never will! I may make a mistake or two along the way but it is all in my own hands and the only person I can blame will be me but if it works what a toy!!!!!!
MOREPOWER.....Fear is healthy.
SpidermanSS 03-26-2003, 09:00 AM very nice... Keep us up to date on your project...

I was thinking something along those lines, too. Very nice fabrication skills.
morepower 04-22-2003, 02:15 PM Hi this is the latest on my project or not?
My crank has been stolen by some evil journo and will only return it after I give him £1million or information for a article or product reveiw! SCUM so I am doing a write up for him if he shows me that the crank is unharmed.
A friend of mine with a bike shop has sent it in and wants to see if it would be something people will want to buy?
So I have to wait till it comes back but I have sourced a few goodies for it and will tell you more IF they work and I am happy with them.I will tell you every thing I do as I do it and how it is done, with photos even! This is to be my ultimate challenge,as I think I know everything HA HA,if I use every thing on my wish list will it all work together? And it will be either BRILLIANT or a very expensive mistake.I won't hide from either results so it will be fun for you if it is the latter and you can learn from my mistakes.I will make some mistakes so don't laugh too loud and feel free to take the p*ss if you want.
Next update SOON?
More power.
Eyespy 04-23-2003, 09:52 AM Sounds good, look forward to more details later.

Thanks for the interest in the project everyone.
I cannot even talk about a package not because I am keeping it secret but because I am still sorting all the parts and I think the price would be too expensive as a crank would be at least £1600/1700.or$2550/2700 I think. Then you have pistons to add and they are custom made for my little project with only 2 rings and for road use you would want 3 rings really and they cost about £600.or$950 for the custom pistons with 2 rings.I am trying to keep the standard con rod length to use the 2 ring pistons so for 3 ring pistons you will need shorter rods which again cost about £750.or$1200 for custom rods. Then you have to add gaskets and the head gasket is £70.or$115.By the time you add cams, valves, bore and liner, clutch, carbs and any extras it is more than it is worth in money.I am lucky as I work in motor sport and can beg, borrow, steal and blackmail to keep the cost down but I still think it will cost more than I would ever tell my wife!
More power.
morepower 10-07-2003, 04:13 PM Sorry to keep you waiting.
I have been busy with a New business so I have been a bit slack working on the bike.
First of all I have collected a few more essential parts both for the engine and chassis.
The parts for the engine are all ready apart from the pistons.I am coming to the states early next year to collect them as the UK importer of them will not arrange for them to be made without adding a massive price increase......TOSSER.I can get them direct only if I buy them in the States or collect them.It has worked out cheaper to fly over and collect them,I can also go to the dealer show at Indianapolis now so I can kill two birds with one stone.
The rods were going to be Titanium but after a lot of careful thought I am going with steel. The assembly process is less of a pain and the crank is lighter than standard so I think it will be fine.If not then I will run Titanium. As mentioned in another post I have been swayed towards a TI Force system, cost did it, but I also want a good torquey pipe as I am using race cams with more lift and more duration.I have been assured the system will flow well enough.
Titanium valves are now being used with a larger center inlet as well, don't think I can fit three larger inlets as i think they will hit each other,so I will use the oversize center valve only.
I have carb spacers made to lengthen the inlet tracts as the increase in capacity will effect the tuned length.
Must go now but more soon.....................................................................................................................
Promise.

YZFR1Freak 10-08-2003, 05:59 AM WOW! I can't wait to see how it all comes together! :bow :D

What do you mean by "you made"?
a_l_existence 04-05-2005, 05:04 PM out of curiosity, fiveoh, do you realize the last post was 16 months ago??
fiveoh 04-05-2005, 05:08 PM ehhh:dunno
Still want to know.
YZFR1Freak 04-06-2005, 01:41 PM Hopefully MorePower is still around cuz I'd like to hear an update... I understand he made it himself... You know, from a chunk of metal.
fiveoh 04-06-2005, 03:37 PM Not trying to be a dick, but I am very doubtful that he made it. If it's made from a chunk of metal, than it's a billet crank. Which are really expensive, and take some serious machining equip. If it's forged, that's done by a HUGE machine. Maybe he cast it? I still doubt it. Most likely it's some mass produced piece that he modified somehow (knife edged, lightened/balanced, etc.).
YZFR1Freak 04-06-2005, 04:38 PM Hopefully he will reply and let us know exactly what he means.

Did you ever get the crank fitted?
morepower 07-08-2008, 05:06 AM Did you ever get the crank fitted?
I never got round to fitting it as I started my business and never had the time. I sold one of the two I made and it was putting out over 185 BHP at the wheel in the customers bike before he had a problem with the plated bore. He has had the bores done again and Omega have made him some new pistons which again the plater had to pay for. The second crank went to Perfromance Bikes magazine and is an ongoing project which should be finished as I post this. The target for that bike is over 200 BHP and after the simple state of tune in the 185BHP bike that looks like it will be done once the bike is set up.
I will let you know once the magazine is published with the articles.

I have not been on much over the past couple of years. Just been busy and have been on a UK magazine forum quite a bit as I have been writing and testing for the magazine as well as running the business.
Anyway... I did make the crank from billet steel I worked for a company which made billet cranks for F1 and indy car as well as world rally and touring cars so I did a lot of work getting bike teams and manufacturers to come to us and made the factory R7 cranks so doing the R1 was easy as they are both very similar. The crank was not a couple day job to make it took 4 weeks from start to finish and although I left the industry almost 2 years ago I still get asked to help design or give advice on altering the stock cranks of many sportbikes. I do wish I had access to the equipment but the company was sold and now the prices they charge are almost 200% higher than the company I worked for used to charge so they are now too expensive for most people to buy unless you want to order 20 at a time!
