Well, I've only done a few of these, and I'm sure more experienced guys will chime in with more items as well. For a 2 day journey, or even a long 1 day road trip, a tank bag usually does the trick for me when packing. So let's assume all the storage space you have is a tankbag and your trunk. Here are some must have items, please feel free to add to the list.

1-tire reapir kit
2-tire guage
3-tool kit
4-change of underwear
5-cell phone
6-small vice grips (you never know)
7-small can of plexus (something to clean the visor and windscreen with)
8-cleaning rag
9-wallet/spare change (dont store in magnetic tank bag!)
10-digital camera

If avaliable:
1- radar detector
2-glock (or similar pea shooter)
3-spare key:yesnod

sorry, its late, what did I miss?:iamwithst

Socks, gotta take care of your feet. When packing any clothing, fold neatly and stuff in a zip-lock freezer bag. Not the sandwich bad. Flatten as much as you can and close. This way it takes up less space and will stay dry even if you don't.

Well, it works for hiking so I figured it shold work for this as well. Either one you want to cram as much stuff as possible into what little space you have.

this may sound pussy, but on my 99' R1 (for really long day trips) I bought these "carple tunnel" braces. Is it just me or do others wrist get soar especially with da women on the back?

That's a pretty comprehensive list.

We can't carry any pea shooters up here though. ;)

My contribution: plastic bags to to protect inards from rain (rain will always seep through) and a clear visor.
