Hi, I have been lurking for a while and finally am ready to share my current build and experiences. I purchased this bike in January 2011 as a wrecked bike project. The bike came with full Leo Vince exhaust, Graves airbox, Power Commander III, clip-ons and some other goodies. The original plan was to convert it to the 2002 red and white version and add the newer 5 spoke wheels. Now 8 months in, I am going with the R6 tail conversion in red to match the rest of the bike. I also have a set of MV Agusta F4 mirrors which will be added along with some OZ Aluminum wheels. There have been some setbacks along the way. Here's pic's of when I first got the bike.

I've been saving and working on the bike sparingly up until June, when it was discovered that the front end was tucked in by about 2 inches. I took the bike to GMD Computrack in Ft. Lauderdale who were able to straighten the frame for $ 900. I was also informed I need to purchase new forks and an axle. It was at this time, that I decided to get into the project a little deeper. I purchased an 06 R6 tail and subframe, 02-03 OZ Aluminum racing wheels, and am planning on replacing the current Leo Vince exhaust canister with an updated version from a GSXR 1000. Here's some more pics as she sits now.

GMD Computrack was recommended by some forum members and I will say that while not cheap, the price is still less than a new frame. I dropped the bike off at 8am and it was ready to go by 6pm.

I purchased a fairing stay from MotoBrackets off EBAY for around $ 100. The item was not shipped in a timely fashion ( took about 3 days from purchase ) considering they are only a 2 hour drive. Recently I was pushing the bike into the garage and snapped the bottom portion of the stay that connects onto the lower part of the headlights. Simply put, you get what you pay for.

The OZ Wheels I have were purchased off a forum member. The front wheel is slightly bent so I shipped the wheel off to framestraightsystem.com. Spoke to the owner a week ago who will notify me when they are ready. As soon as I get the finished product I will do a quick review. Here's a pic of the wheels and the fairing stay before the snappage.

Great thread so far! :thumbup Couple of questions though -

What is the snapped fairing stay made of? Did it look shoddy when you received it?

How did you mount the R6 tail? That is a popular upgrade around here so more details the better!

Great job! :thumbup

Yeah, when I first inspected the stay I could see a few spots where air got trapped during the molding process. It wasn't horrible by any means, but I didn't expect it to break that easily. As for the R6 tail swap, search for demarco5 ' my 2003 R1 conversion '. I will post pics and links later today to the thread. The subframe is sitting about an inch too high in the photos and is currently being redone.

The stay looks like it is made out of plastic. Yeah, I am aware of his thread. :)

More pics would be awesome! :thumbup Oh, and I agree the tail looks a tad bit high. :)

i just did the 06 /07 r6 tail conversion on my 02/03 as well.mine is all carbon fiber though.tail, undertail, and solo cowl.the tail swap wasnt all that bad or hard actually.took me and my brother about a weekend.i plan on pulling the front seat apart and molding the lower front portion to close the gap at the gas tank though...that gap is hideous.other than that...pretty easy and looks dope as hell too :) i also did the 06 R1 rim swap and 06 R1 gauge swap also :epimp

Wow, its been a long time. The bike is not quite 100% but I did manage to get the subframe mounted and took a few pics. I still have to put all the plastics on, create mounting brackets for the R6 subframe, secure the front seat, fit the MV Agusta mirrors, etc... This is a quick update. The bike should be ready within the month. I will give a full write up then. Sorry for the wait, here are some pics.

Here's another quick update. As you can see the bike is pretty much complete. Still need to get the subframe brackets made, mount the MV mirrors, etc...
