Next was swapping to a new full ti Corsa exhaust, and I tried out the Beringer brake calipers. I wanted to eventually add a race radiator to cool her off faster on the track, so a full system was needed to give me the room behind the headers.

Of course I added a little ti along the way...:sneaky

I know Dave, it's called selective editing! :lol

I wanted the wheels on the 6, but I also want to get my racers license next year. I really won't be competing until the year after (hopefully) but the wheels would not allow me to run in supersport, and it would be hard has hell to get it in superbike.

Awesome man, sounds like that would be a blast, I would love to try and do that but with my job it would be hard as hell and if I get promoted this year it would be next to impossible!:fact

After installing and testing out the Beringers, I found to have a faulty set. Although I liked them, it was a fiasco getting them that took several months. I just did not want to go through the same ordeal and headache again. Beringer took the entire set back and I was looking into something different. During that time I was able to get a set of BST's to replace my Carrozzeria's, easily my favorite part of the build.

After looking around for a while for calipers, I just couldn't find anything in a 130mm spacing that I liked. I love the Brembo calipers, but couldn't make them work unless I used the provided adapter bracket. I the end I bit the bullet, sold my FGRT 808's and bought the 810's instead. These were 04-06 specific, so they had 108mm brackets. I also found an amazing deal with Brembo USA for a set of Full on race calipers. That freed up my GP4-RX's and they found their way onto the 09. The 810 forks are built to specifically be paired with Brembo calipers and do not work with the OEMs. They worked great with the upgraded Braketech Irons in 320mm. Problem solved.
Gil with Attack also set me up very well with a set of rearsets and one-off triples they made for me to match the rearsets. Added their clip ons as well and the front end is complete.

I used a hacksaw very slowly to get the right line. I used masking tape over the carbon to prevent fraying and also to be able to draw the cut line on. I did my first set with a 4" grinder and cut off wheel, but it made me nervous with the carbon. Just a note that the ti exhausts also have ti rivets and those are a pain to drill out.

awesome. now I have a new winter project. just curious I see you have an aftermarket upper triple on there. still got the stock one? what kinda price you looking for it? mine is faded as hell and I'd like to powdercoat it. but if i could get a "backup" just in case something goes wrong or something like that then awesome.

Why go to the Leo Vinci's over the Akrapovic product Steve? Also where the exhuast header collars ti? Where did you get them from, come with the Akra's when you bought the set up?

Bike's amazing bruh:fact

SSPilot
10-07-2011, 08:51 PM
Thanks D!

Akra was a slip-on and I was/am planning on going to a full race radiator. The stock headers on the 09 are fantastic, but the 2nd and 3rd down tubes cross and that takes up valuable space. It would not allow an extension. I couldn't find the EVO II kit I wanted from Akra, but I did find a steal on the Leo Corsa system. If I can ever find the right system, I may get it, but I'm very happy with the Leo, the pipes are huge.

Collars are ti and come with the Leo system.

what was the sound like on the cut down akras? you prefered the leos? and did the addition of race headers give you any power over the stock headers?

Akras sounded deep and throaty after being cut down and baffling removed. The specific Akra I was looking for is not manufactured any longer, and the Leo was too good of a deal to pass up. The larger diameter tubes offer better airflow and obviously less restriction. With my limited motor mods, I'd be extremely surprised if I gained anything with the new headers. I got a full system solely to accommodate the addition of a race radiator. The stock header sticks out too far and will not allow for one to fit.

There were a few issues with Beringer. They messed up several times with shipping, and when I finally got my set, they were flawed and defective. I sent them back. Beringer was more than willing to take care of everything, but I did not want to wait months again to get the right product. I chose Brembo instead. Not trying to knock them at all. Burn-z has proven the calipers to be dry worthy, just wanted to go a different way.

Did you send them a general email, or did you send an inquiry by selecting the product you want? They have responded fast with everything I have asked..
This product, in my opinion, is well worth the money. Keep in mind that this is a full endurance piece, not a street replacement fairing. I've considered the cost myself and after the time and work, it would cost a great deal to have someone integrate a light and lens on a basic race fairing, much less a carbon unit.

Worked on the bike a little more last night. I replaced the OEM radiator hoses with a Samco kit. I have to say though that the Samco hose clamps were a bit disappointing. They were very heavy compared to the stock ones, so I used the OEM clamps. I only used the Samco's where the lines previously had pinch type clamps. I'll be replacing those clamps this week with some lighter aluminum ones since they are so small.

http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz131/sspilot/09%20R1/55ef4664.jpg

Also had a chance to clean up some of the routing of the YEC kit harness. If you haven't guessed yet, the bike is being transitioned into a track only bike. I got the harness when I bought the YEC ecu last year and I thought I might as well make use of it. It's a bit lighter and no frills like headlight and blinker harnesses either. Plus, I can plug a quick shifter directly into the ecu and no more need for a piggy back fuel module.

http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz131/sspilot/09%20R1/902d2e9e.jpg

While I was at it I fit the new handlebar controls I have so I can measure how long the harnesses need to be. Went a head and removed all the smog equipment and did the airbox mod while I had the tank and air box off the bike as well.

http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz131/sspilot/09%20R1/a1650b98.jpg

http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz131/sspilot/09%20R1/30add0b0.jpg

The ECU is relocated to the tail with the kit harness, as well as the rectifier to the left side of the bike. This meant that I had to remove the OEM coolant overflow bottle and install a catch bottle behind the stock gauges. This is a mock up so I could take measurements and make an aluminum bracket to hold the bottles.

More of a satin finish Ian. I'm also working on getting a set of 666 carbon case covers. The stator cover won't fit the standard case cover, will need some trimming. If it doesn't work, I may go with GB racing or something else along the same lines.

And how is the clearance between the endurance light and the bottles? I'm guessing the light is real shallow, no?

Just focus on chassis setup. Don't have to use Ohlins to get a great feel out of the bike and great turn in. :thumbup

The switches are STM and are made to order. They are more functional and better looking than the OEM ones.

Thanks Ben. I have followed your lead on this hold for quite a while. But Now it's focus will be track only. It is a waste to have this bike on the street at this point. As flat as it is here, These parts will never realize their ability and multiply the odds of damaging them in an accident or crash.

I'd love to go with a full factory style scheme.
