Last week I was having a nice cruise going to work and ran into some serious traffic on the highway. I ended up being in traffic cruising at no more than 4-5 mph. After about 40 minutes I shifted to first from neutral from a stop and as soon as I went to let the clutch out my R1 shut off. When I tried to re-start the bike made the obvious attempt but just went "click, click". I ended up having my mechanic from work come pick me up with a truck and I re-charged the battery.

My question: I bought the bike almost a year ago and as far as I can tell it has never started immediately like some of the youtube vidoes of other R1 bikes. (not even a warm start) I always takes 2-3 seconds. Is this normal or should I just buy a new battery? Thanks in advance for any advise.

Use the trouble shooting guide in the service manual and do a test on the charging system.

And FYI... Bike batteries are just like the ones in cars. They are good for 3 to 4 years in most cases. After that anything can happen. But do the test first. :sneaky
