Myself and my good lady are thinking of upping sticks and heading to the southern hemisphere in @18 months time. Sunshine beckons, how is Aus for circuits? Phillip Island is spectacular looking on the TV, but there must be an abundance of circuits as Aus/NZ seem to churn out lots of quick racers. I take it trackdays exist downunder, what about the club racing scene? Any info appreciated, Ta ! :beer

Aus always seems to be populated by 'fit' women, dunno if it’s just TV but it's would be a fair enough excuse for me... then there’s the weather too.

Don't know anything about club racing, but done a few trackdays myself. I live about 60 miles south of Sydney. There is one internationally rated track in western Sydney called Eastern Creek. It used to run the 500cc GP until it went to Phillip Island. DO a web search using Eastern Creek should find the track's homepage. Ride days here cost about $Aus140. The only other track in NSW that has ridedays (to my knowledge) is in south western Sydney and called Oran Park. It's an old shitty little track with a couple of quite dangerous corners and a concrete wall that runs right beside the last left hander leading onto the main straight. Loose it here and your eating concrete big time. The only other tracks in Aus that I see ride days advertised for are Phillip Island and Wakefield Park, both in Victoria. My understanding is that Phillip Island is very windy and the weather is totally unpredictable and Wakefield Park is a tight country circuit with few amenities. As for prices of bikes (I assume you'll buy one here and not bring your existing bike) you can get a new R1 for about $AUs17,000 plus transfer costs (approx $1000). A good 99 model like mine would sell for no more than $12,000. I believe our dollar is worth about 50 pence so you could figure for yourself how they compare to UK prices.
