take off old canister, install stack from a 1926 massey-ferguson (the kind with the kool baffle on top that keeps water out) and post picks- (may need some minor fabricating)

Arata, Hindle, Akrapovic, and Graves just to name a few really good ones. There are others as well. Track day, eventually. MSF course, certainly.:yesnod

I enjoy my Wolf exhaust...kind of expensive but there's a brand new set on ebay right now....you'll love the sound...vibrates the ground without the baffles in it...only trouble is you have to lose your trunk space but I made one out of aluminum and stainless steel so it's not a huge problem

In my opinion, the top dog right now is Arata. Mind you, I'm running Akrapovic systems on both of my bikes.

I've been trying to get my hands on the 5 lb Muzzy full Ti system for over a year (they stopped making them), finally nailed one on ebay! You can read about it at Jim Sheldon's website: http://www.speedmadness.com/R1_project_exhaust.html More to the point, the best pipes for the 98-01 R1s are the Muzzy full Ti, Arata, Akra, Graves. Of these, all are 4-2-1, except the Akra, which is 4-1. Drop in Ivan's kit, an k&N, APE, or BMC race filter element, and Ivan's airbox mod. Ivan is partial to the Akra, other's I know have said the Muzzys also does well with the above mods.

I agree with YZFR1ZX6R609, put the money on track days and the pay back is more than you can imagine.

track days are when they let you race on it and be buchmaster for a day.you'll get to know your bike allot better, and yourself.allot safer than canyon riding but sometimes a pretty penny, but worth it

The Yoshi Tri Oval suits the lines of the R1i think. I have a titanium Trioval on a silver 02,looks good and made a huge differance from the stock pipe!

Anyone put a straight pipe on their bike? I'm into welding and wanted to make my own system. If you don't us a mufler and can record a file (.wav, mp3, .mov, etc) I'd really appreciate it. My 3.5" custom exhaust on my car is wicked sounding. Makes my R1 sound like a sick hampster. Thanks, JP

Thanks, JP there is a similar pipe that I have been checking out, but it has replacable packing. The only thing I don't like is that it is held on by by one hose clamp type fastener. http://www.mcmcustom.com/MCM%20Mirage.htm
