LiquidSilver02 04-03-2002, 02:29 PM I just got my R1 and my buddy has a gxr-750 do you think i can take him both are stock. I know i can take his ass on turns but he said his bike could beat me on a straight away...i am like no you cant i want to know if I can beat him on a straight away too. I am pretty sure but wanna know before i race him. I beat him all the time and he was like i am not trying.
UT Longhorn 04-03-2002, 02:33 PM If you know how to ride, it shouldn't be a problem.:machinegu
R1ZOOM 04-03-2002, 02:43 PM I raced a 2001 Gixxer 750 through the quarter a few nights ago. He had a Yoshi Slip-on, my 02 was bare stock at the time(have Micron now). I took him by about 2 bike lengths. I was ahead of him the whole time. I know in tests the Gix 750 would take a 01 R1 through the quarter, but times have changed!!!

Droog 04-03-2002, 02:47 PM You can't argue with an extra 250cc's You'll leave him in a straight line, but there's one way to find out.
ricardo 04-03-2002, 03:27 PM The suzuki gsxr750 is in a league of its own. Its basically a slow liter bike.

Thommy 04-03-2002, 03:39 PM Well - not to sound like a DAD but...like most people I have an opinion and as this is a Forum and is used to voice opinion and pass info - I will risk it. Sorry in advance to those who take offense. LiquidSilver02 - your 22 - try to make sure you make it to 92.
1. Make sure the bike is fully broken in before pushing it - if you dont, you will lose the race even if you win.
2. Not a great idea - again my opinion - to race your buddy unless you can hit the track and do it right. The bad part of street racing is that you cant control the environment and those wild cards ("I never saw him") are the things that get you killed. The worst part of the bad part is that sometimes bystanders get killed too.
3. Racing is so heavily determined by RIDER that it can totally skew any results. The Gixxer 750 is a very fast bike...look at the 0-60 times for both the bikes and even the quarter mile times. Now get yourself a stopwatch and time out the difference. Not much time is it...now how will a missed or slow or early shift effect that time...
I am sure you know how well you ride and how well your friend rides - and likely both of you know who is the better rider. Of course a faster bike can give one rider an advantage - but the advantage is small - I know I cant tell the difference between 0-60 in 3.2 or 3.3 seconds...
So my advice is be nice to your bike, be good to yourself, be honest with your friend and for the real fun - tear up a track - there are no cars pulling out of hidden side streets or spaced out pedestrians on a track....
For the record I am 33 - riding for 25 years total and riding on the street for 16 years. One of the bikes I ride is a 2002 R1 and I am certainly not afraid to use all the bike offers...but at the right times and in the right place. I am still here - 10 Fingers, 10 toes if you get me - but I have lost a few friends over the years - 2 because they were racing on the street.
Have fun - be safe.
That said - the R1 is by far the best performing bike I have owned - including my past Gixxers and I will match my skill on my R1 against anyone on a Gixxer 750 or 1000 and kick Gixxer butt....:rock

UT Longhorn 04-03-2002, 04:18 PM What Thommy said.
FRQ FLYR 04-03-2002, 05:37 PM it depends.
how much do you weigh? how much does he weigh?
are you going to roll-on?
does he have stock gearing?
who is a better rider?
i know guys on 600's that can wax people on their Busas!
if you roll-on from 2nd gear, and you weigh the same--you should pull him through the gears.
joe
LiquidSilver02 04-03-2002, 05:58 PM alright NO i don't race on the streets anymore...if anyone is wondering. after a cople of close incounters so i only race at the track.. and those close encounters were with cars with a bike its diffrent i would of been dead if it was a bike. :rock
arls1 04-04-2002, 11:53 AM Hey Thommy,
I will take you up on that Gixxer 1000 VS R1 race.
At a track of course. And if I lost I would damn sure learn from your experience and skills.
Seriously - sounds like it would be fun ripping it up on the track with you.
Anyone want to lend me a GSXR1000.....
noquicky123 04-06-2002, 02:15 PM The way I see it, any gixxer already lost to an R1. The gixxer just doesnt look as good as the R1. The front looks weird ont he gixxer and you lean way further over then the R1.
As far as racing the two, if you can ride the R1, you should be able to beat a 750, no problem. The gixxer 1000, I dont know. I saw dyno tests but thats just talk. I think its 50% bike 50% rider
ricardo 04-06-2002, 04:16 PM You know, if suzuki made an effort to make the gsxr1000 a good looking bike, if they decided to make it entirely new like the 2002 r1, then more people would buy it. I dont see the point of buying a gsxr1000 when it looks exactly like a gsxr600, gsxr750 and tlr1000. The bike looks outdated.

twodogs 04-07-2002, 04:52 AM I got taken around the outside on my R1 at the end of a 1km long straight once. It was by a 125 GP bike, just after i'd nailed a race prepped 996 Ducati. I know full race 125 gp bikes are expected to corner better than my stock R1 (with stock tyres) but how did that mongrel stay in my slipstream when I was pulling 250km/h?
I guess my point is if a 125 can stick with a reasonably ridden R1 down a 1km straight then a GSXR750 can totally kick your arse if the rider's good enough.
spanktu 04-07-2002, 07:14 AM you will lose to a gix750 if the riders are of the same caliber/weight
I just got rid of my 96 gix 750 so trust me I know
main reason is they stay on the ground they are great drag bikes
r1's are very poor to control coming out of the gate
just remeber to leave off the line as close to idle as
possible
buy a strap and a adjustable lowering kink for the rear and slam the bike if you want to drag it
rick25 04-07-2002, 10:17 PM Well, I have a 2001 Gix750 and a 2001 R1.
The Gix 750
1 Full Akrapovic
2 Power commander (special map made by me)
3 Air filter
4 320 chain &sprocket conversion one tooth down in back (more top end)
The R1
1 Full Akrapovic
2 Ivan’s jet kit
3 320 chain &sprocket conversion one tooth up in back (less top end more acceleration)
This is my opinion on this matter since I can not race both bikes at the same time I will said the Gix 750 will beat the R1, but only on top end. My Gix goes 175mph on GPS and the R1 goes 173mph top end on GPS.
But If the R1 and 750 start from the hole (0 Miles) the R1 will be in front all the way to beginning of 6th gear.
Rated R 04-08-2002, 10:04 AM I own both, a Gixxer 750 and a '02 R1. I can tell you for certain that my R1 is much quicker and will take my 750 in a straight line. It is hard to argue with considering that the same rider (me) is piloting both bikes (one at a time of course;) ) removing any question of rider differences such as height, weight, ability, etc.. It is my impression that the R1 would win in a race between equal riders...
I like my Gixxer but it is not the mad powerhouse that my R1 is...:rock
viningsa 09-08-2003, 04:44 PM I just wanted to give my 2 cents in on this post...
I have raced both a gixxer 750 and a gixxer 1000, and here is how it went down...
The 750 race:
My bike: '99 R1, M4 full exhaust, Attack racing carbon air box which comes w/ a 140 jet (www.attackperformance.com)
My weight: 150 lbs
Gearing: stock
The 750: K&N, Power commander, Yosh tri-oval (full) exhaust
Weight: 145
Gearing: stock...then 1 down front
The first couple of times we raced, we went from a 60 roll in 2nd gear. I was suprised to see that the gixxer hung with me all the way through 2nd and half of 3rd when about at around 135 I clearly started to pull away.
After that the guy put a smaller spocket on front, and we raced again. I didn't really see any difference the the acceleration of his bike, b/c the exact same thing happened.
The 1000 race:
His bike: STOCK gsxr1000
weight:155
gearing: stock (I assume)
I asked him if we could go from a 60 punch from 2nd and he agreed. We got out on the freeway and somewhat lined up...he was a link in front of me going about 65 ever so slightly accelerating already. I rolled on my throttle a little to catch up and right when we were side by side we were going about 85 mph and we both hit it! Out of my peripheral vision I could see that I was pulling on him just slightly through 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, (but his front wheel was still right in line with my right leg) and when I went to 6th he was still in 5th and sucked up next to me and was neck and neck with me. When that happened I shut down because we were going 168 and coming up on the cars we let get way ahead of us fast!!!
We pulled over and talked and he said that my R1 was the fastest he had ever raced, b/c normally he beats them. I was siked to hear that, b/c I had never raced one before but had always wanted to. But granted his bike was stock, but I was still happy, and it was still fun as hell.
Sorry I couldn't be more informative with stock vs stock, but I would hope (and expect) the R1 to beat the 750, just because of the torque the R1 produces over the 750.
efonsec 09-08-2003, 04:58 PM Thommy,
Very clever approach.
i think the same way and still here.
krazy_j604 09-14-2003, 03:24 AM well its quite hard to say since the R1 has the extra torque to get out of turns and for sure you will own him on the straights but at a track the 750 turns with ease and razor sharp handling of a 600 ..................... the 750 can possibly beat you on a track but if your just doing straights he is owned...
750's are the best of both worlds in my point of view they have the handling of a 600 and also have power that can still follow 1000's

Mackz 09-14-2003, 05:08 AM The 1k I could understand but that "puny" 750 have us R1 owners worried. Suzuki sure does their home work when it comes to making bikes. :no
03R1stuNNa 09-15-2003, 09:39 AM the 750 wouldnt stand a chance until you get into very high speeds when the ram air kicks in......the R1 will leave the 750 on roll ons....tell him to bring it =].....if you are worried check out the bike parts for sale section and buy my full akra system, pc3 w/ custom map....he wont have a chance then :rock
