Hello There all; I ride a 99 r1 and I am thinking of getting a slip-on for it? I have done some research on which ones I like as far as looks, and I have chosen two pipes. One is a high mount mig exhaust with a aluminum canister and the second is a hindle high mount also with a aluminum canister? Can anyone give me some advice on which to get? I have not heard either yet on an r1 yet. May be Someone can give me a hand on deciding. Thanks in advance. Thanks Yogi :hellobye

the forum member Squirrel has one on his R1...it seems nice enough....going with a slip on you arent going to get some radical increase in power...so really looks are the main factor when you choose it anyways....

Let me make myself a little more clear, I am looking for a pipe that is loud. I live in Toronto and here car drivers just don't pay any attention to bikes. So if I get a pipe that is loud enough just may be they will stop cutting me off and changing into my lanes. I know, I know its a long shot but I'll try it anyway... I didn't mean to ask the forums opinion just on looks I meant to ask for loudest. Sorry my mistake... yogi

i have a full hindle high mount, and i love it. however, if you want a loud exhaust, this probably isnt it. mine is sort of quite, but i havent had it very long either. the fit and finish of the system to me is very very good.

If you want loud, then D&D is the pipe you're looking for. For looks, gotta go with a MIG or Devil.

I've owned alot of pipes for the R1 no doubt that d&d was the loudest. The mig pipe does look the best and with time the pipe will be loud enough. why not have the best of both worlds especially on your R1.

Anyone got a pic of '02 - '03 R1 with Carbon MIG Hi-Mount slip on exhaust, please post. I need to see it mounted before I order it. I heard they don't look as good as when they were making them for '99 - '01 R1.

if you want loud go with D&D (quality has been know to vary).....if you want quality construction and good looks I suggest Micron or Devil!....They both have a deep mellow tone that will not give you a headache on a long ride

I have a high mount mig on my 01 and it is pretty loud. It does gett louder over time. I have about 5k on my pipe and it sounds great. IT is very deep and loud. You can go to www.eurobikes.com to see them mounted on bikes. They actually have a dual set for the 02's that looks awesome.

I've had 2 MIG's....both highmounts. Had the texalu one on the F4i, have the carbon on the R1. Love MIG's. Good quality...nice and loud without being whiny....

Good quality...nice and loud without being whiny.... That's true. I love the sound of my Mig high mount. I have the same one pictured here in stainless on my 02. It sounds very deep but not at all whiny like a katana with a kerker. As for fit and finish that was absolutely perfect as well. Scratches can easily be removed with mothers aluminum polish and you don't have to polish it every week just after you wash it or get it wet. The only problem is the French thing. I really don't like that.

Another thing to consider, is you live in Toronto.. And if you like to ride early in the year, the salt will affect the polished aluminum very quickly.. Even if you just get the smallest amount on it.

Thanks skyshot44, I had not considered salt as a problem for a pipe. There must be some way to protect your pipe. There has to be a polish protectant for this type fo pipe, though.... :2bitchsla
