lsvtec 04-07-2003, 10:29 PM I just want to know you guys' opinion about a steering damper for my '03 R1.
I used to have Scotts, and it worked great on my RR but never used an Ohlins before.
I am not sure which one to get, either an Ohlins with Harris kit or Scotts.
R1@150@alltimes 04-07-2003, 10:32 PM Ohlins, had a Scotts aswell, both r great though.
KNEEDY R1 04-08-2003, 10:33 AM OHLINS I.M.O THEY LOOK CLEANER AND HAVE A GOOD REP.:yesnod :yesnod
theron19d 04-08-2003, 10:35 AM I think the scotts looks much cleaner than the ohlins. That's why I chose the scotts.
tidbit 04-08-2003, 10:39 AM oh man.. plz dont start this one.. they ARE BOTH great dampers.. it's just your preferance.. after all ohlins makes scotts :fact
slider226 04-11-2003, 07:35 PM dude go with the ohlins, i just got one and its is awesome
02R1guy 04-11-2003, 07:39 PM LOOK AT PICS AND DECIDE WHICH ONE YOU THINK LOOK BETTER MOUNTED ON THE BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can't go wrong with either:)
[d]ArkNeZz 04-23-2003, 11:33 AM I'd like to check..if i have a triple tree carbon cover stick on, do i have to remove it before fixing my Scotts damper?

With Ohlins.... Yes. At least for the new ohlins mount.
With Graves mount and Ohlins.....No.

no matter how many times we say this noone seems to listen, people always think they are drastically different. That one will be "better" than the other. Seems like a timeless discussion.
lsvtec 04-27-2003, 02:44 AM What is the difference between Ohlins bracket and Harris bracket?
I ordered my Scotts tonight :)

lsvtec 04-29-2003, 10:09 AM Anyone got Ohlins damper with Ohlins bracket installed on a '03 R1 please post your pic.
Thanks in advance.
BRBJackson 04-29-2003, 12:41 PM Anyone got Ohlins damper with Ohlins bracket installed on a '03 R1 please post your pic.
It's an '02, but you get the idea...
lsvtec 04-29-2003, 08:49 PM Thanks for the post BRBJackson,
Did you have to drill and tap in to your frame to install it?
NY2NJ 04-29-2003, 10:05 PM Neither bracket requires any drilling. The installation is pretty easy. Same goes for Scotts.
lsvtec 05-05-2003, 06:03 PM Thanks for all the info guys..
I have just sent my Harris bracket back for an exchange of an Ohlins bracket even though I had to pay an extra $65 + shipping :(
R3N3G@d3 05-06-2003, 05:10 PM im a n00b, and was jsut wondering, if the dampener is sticking out like that, wouldnt it interfere with your turning? Im asking this because i have no way of finding out myself:(
lsvtec 05-12-2003, 09:21 PM Just got done installing my Ohlins damper.

Tweak 06-14-2003, 09:50 AM I picked up a Scotts from a forum member, should be here on Monday. Can't wait :D I could have had an Ohlins for about $20 more but decided the Scotts was more suited for me ... We'll see :)
In2Deep 09-17-2003, 01:36 AM Looking for someone that has tried the GPR to compare to the Ohlins and Scotts... anyone?

brooke 09-22-2003, 02:37 PM I just bought a GPR Dampener from the AMA's in birmingham for $300 but have yet to install it. You can be sure I will do a full write-up on the generic dampener very soon.

Chucklemaster 09-23-2003, 09:16 PM Team Yamaha and Graves Racing switched from Scotts to Ohlins. I'm not a pro - so it doesn't matter to me...just FYI.
brooke 09-23-2003, 09:56 PM After installing the GPR Dampner I feel the mounts are alot better than the Scotts and Ohlins for starters. Even thouh the GPR doesn't have a Low Speed and High Speed Setting I was not bothered. Who needs a Low Speed Damper anyway? DUH!! For $300 I feel this product is a well put together piece of work plus it has a Life-time Warranty and has less Internal Parts than the others... As far as the looks go I think it looks fine. Granted the Scotts and Ohlins is more Eye-Candy but so far it seems to do a Great job.. So far I have set mine on Setting 3 for my riding style... Also keep in mind GPR only makes Dampers...:0 I'll post a pic tomorrow!!!!

brooke 09-24-2003, 08:05 PM Here's a pic of my set-up!!!
Brooke
'O2R1Pilot 10-09-2003, 10:47 PM They are all good products. I have the Scotts on my R1 and the Ohlins on my Aprilia(well, it came stock on it and it works great!)
As said before here, Ohlins makes both, Scotts just puts their name on it...
Just make sure to dial the low speed out and get about 14 clicks out to increase high speed damping. Solid as a rock at any triple digit speeds and surface.
