I just want to know you guys' opinion about a steering damper for my '03 R1. I used to have Scotts, and it worked great on my RR but never used an Ohlins before. I am not sure which one to get, either an Ohlins with Harris kit or Scotts.

I think the scotts looks much cleaner than the ohlins. That's why I chose the scotts.

That one will be "better" than the other. Seems like a timeless discussion.

Thanks for the post BRBJackson, Did you have to drill and tap in to your frame to install it?

Neither bracket requires any drilling. The installation is pretty easy. Same goes for Scotts.

Thanks for all the info guys.. I have just sent my Harris bracket back for an exchange of an Ohlins bracket even though I had to pay an extra $65 + shipping :(

I picked up a Scotts from a forum member, should be here on Monday. Can't wait :D I could have had an Ohlins for about $20 more but decided the Scotts was more suited for me ... We'll see :)

I just bought a GPR Dampener from the AMA's in birmingham for $300 but have yet to install it. You can be sure I will do a full write-up on the generic dampener very soon. Brooke

Team Yamaha and Graves Racing switched from Scotts to Ohlins. I'm not a pro - so it doesn't matter to me...just FYI.

After installing the GPR Dampner I feel the mounts are alot better than the Scotts and Ohlins for starters. Even thouh the GPR doesn't have a Low Speed and High Speed Setting I was not bothered. Who needs a Low Speed Damper anyway? DUH!! For $300 I feel this product is a well put together piece of work plus it has a Life-time Warranty and has less Internal Parts than the others... As far as the looks go I think it looks fine. Granted the Scotts and Ohlins is more Eye-Candy but so far it seems to do a Great job.. So far I have set mine on Setting 3 for my riding style... Also keep in mind GPR only makes Dampers...:0 I'll post a pic tomorrow!!!! Brooke:rock

They are all good products. I have the Scotts on my R1 and the Ohlins on my Aprilia(well, it came stock on it and it works great!) As said before here, Ohlins makes both, Scotts just puts their name on it... Just make sure to dial the low speed out and get about 14 clicks out to increase high speed damping. Solid as a rock at any triple digit speeds and surface.
