How To: Mirror Covers

I got this idea from Blue One, and I think he got it from someone else, but whatever here is how it's done. 1. Take off your stock mirrors (if you can't figure this out please do not go any further until you are as mechanically competant as my three year old son). 2. Peel back the rubber cover at the base and expose the aluminum. This is what you will cut. You can use either a hacksaw or a dremmel... I used a combination of both.

be careful with the dremmel as aluminum powder is explosive and the back circles are steel and can cause sparks....

what does that do?

3. You should be left with a pair of Aluminum stumps...

4. Now use a grinder to smooth and form them into shape... It's ok if you have a few grinding marks as long as they are not too deep.

5. Now hand sand them smooth. I started with a 60 grit and finished with 250 to give them a satin look. You can go even finer and then use Flitz or similar compound to give it a mirror polish. 6. Mount them a look on with satisfaction at having saved over $50.

Killer idea...but BE CAREFUL using a grinding wheel on aluminum...the aluminum can clog the pores in the wheel...heat up and then the wheel will explode....don't ask how I know....just take my advice :)

No contest. Besides, I wanted something less "clunky" looking, and with a little less Bling. BTW are you done with that Turbo R1 yet? I remember reading something about that but haven't seen anything recently.

i have a question. now that the mirror is gone, is there a way to mount a mirror on the end of the grips, ive seen mini mirrors like this on a bike before that could be folded in or out, but i dont know where it was purchased.
