The FOX 9 story was lame as expected. And talked only to some of the "UNSANE RIDERZ" guys who I guess were our representitives.. LOL. And they talked to the Highway Patrol. The only sane viewpoint from a rider was them talking to a former stunter/SA rider who gave it up after getting caught and spending $4K getting outta trouble. All in all it wasn't as bad as I expected and at least it was at 9pm on a Sunday evening.

Did you really think the LOCAL media was going to offer a FAIR and BALANCED view of motorcycling/sportbikes? They presented about as much fairness as they do when they cover the War in IRAQ. Someone should have directed them to our group of riders to get a FAIR and BALANCED perspective. Most of the PUNK/SQUIDS don't ride with gear and all they are interested in is STUNTING. What a JOKE!

I mean look at how many riders are out there making the case for them. But then again as journalists (and I use the term loosely with local news reporters) they should know that there is two sides to every story.

I was laughing at the part when the MN HP guy was telling the story of the people on "crotch rockets" toying with him. He said that the bikes slow down for him, then speed away. They even showed a couple of bikes that stayed about 100-200 yds in front of a cop car & out of clear video range. :lol :lol :lol I was cheering for the bikers to get away. :finger: cops

And BTW, just to add my .02, in the Bible, no matter which version you prefer, it states that man's laws are to be obeyed just the same as God's. It does not specify anything about the "spirit of the law", so whatever mandates which apply to you in your state/region are laws which you, as a Christian, must follow, regardless of your personal interpretation of the law.

In the famous words of Superintendent Chalmers, "Take it outside, God-boy." Can't you go waste the time of some other thread? Maybe something on your side of the country? I can't believe that you would create an account on the R1-forum and go to the Minnesota riders thread and try preaching to us. Isn't your 17 year old boss at Rusty's Frozen Custard shop yelling at you to clean up something? I also can't believe that you posted your entire life on the internet for all to see. Clicky clicky (http://students.ou.edu/P/Jeremy.R.Popkess-1/) Also, why do you preach to me about breaking the law with the occassional wheelie or stoppie? Why don't you practice what you preach and take off Christina Aguilera's picture off your website? And why did you build that stripper pole & stage in your mom's basement? SINNER! SINNER! SINNER! Long story short, f off. We don't want you around here. Go practice in your marching band some more, you fag.

Chill out, I was reading this from a link from a current topic concerning the changing of motor vehicle laws concerning motorcyclists. I created the account because I own one and happen to enjoy this website. Secondly, I'm not even attempting to be preaching or "bible-beating" because honestly I don't care whether or not people choose to disobey speeding laws or laws similar in nature. . . what you do is your own choice. I was simply stating a fact that the Bible happens to have a passage that specifies that man's laws apply. (think of the movie Dogma, where they say, "that which man has made manifest (laws) will be made so by God") But I'm glad you seem to think my school-time managerial position has anything to do with knowledge of the Bible, or for fact, my right to post things.

I think if channel 9 would have interviewed about 15-20 people on the Buddy List they would have gotten a very rounded perspective of who/what sport bike riders are. I think our list has a little of everything on it...from people that do track days, to group rides to each other's house for get togethers to going out on group rides, some stunting, to people that ride and are single or have families. They would have gotten a great story about what it means to ride seriously, for fun, leisure, or just hanging out. By NOOOOOOO....

Well it looks like I'll be riding again soon, as long as things work out with my bank. I found a pretty good deal on a ZX6R, it's a blue 2003 all stock with 1000 miles for $6,500. I've never ridden one before but from what I've heard it's a nice bike. The only things i don't like are the ugly front end and stupid gauges with the digital tach. It might be a little diasappointing after riding an R1 for a year but it's 2 grand/yr less in insurance and I need to try something besides Yamaha after 4 or 5 years riding nothing else. For some reason my banker was ready to cut me a check for the full amount on Friday but when she went on vacation she told this new guy that I had to have $1500 down, i don't get it but it sucks. I was thinking I would be waitning until next year but then i remembered my renters credit check for $1100 is coming in the next couple weeks. I should be smart and wait but I'm dying to ride again, I think I was taking it for granted because not riding really sucks.

I'm not too happy about the article, but it's done. At most we can do is contact them and ask for a rebuttal article. Which, supposedly I've heard people say they've already requested.

R1SpeedMaster
07-27-2004, 07:17 AM
People can request a follow up article, but is that the best thing that we can do for the sport? You know that they are not going to do a segment on responsible & smart riding. The damage has been done, we should just let it fade away. It's like a 17 y.o. kid that I know who got pulled over & ticketed for having an open bottle in his car. The newspaper wrote him up saying that it was underage consumption, so his father called the newspaper all ticked off and they offered to run another article with the correct information in it. Well, he said no. Just let it fade away. Tomorrow will be something else. Like how some people don't actually use the crosswalk to cross the streets!!!

It was cold last night as I was approaching the St. Croix river. It felt like some places had dropped well into the 50's, between that and the countless amount of bugs that were getting plastered all over me and the bike, it made for somewhat of a rough ride. Not to mention having a laptop strapped to the back. :no Would've been a nice nite for a ride if I didn't have 20 pounds of gear strapped on my back. I was going to swing by and check out the bike, as well so you could check out the CRG's. Okay, here's the deal... Time: Sunday, August 1st meet at 9:00am Stands up at 9:15am Place: Amoco at County Road J and Centerville Road in White Bear Township. This is one block west of 35E on the SE corner. I'll lead a ride from White Bear Township through mostly back roads up to Taylor's Falls, and then just a little north of Cushing, WI and back. We'll end the ride at 35E and County Rd. 22 in Wyoming like we did last time. There's a DQ, McDonald's or other places to eat. Villiage Inn or Trappers is an option as well. Those are more of a sit down restaurant. All in all, the ride will be about 125 miles or so, and will take about 2.5 hours counting a rest stop in Taylor's Falls and then gas stop on the way back. Nice country roads, good twists and generally low amounts of traffic. Most likely even less Sunday morning.

I like the riding when it's early and there's no traffic or anything but getting up before noon is tough for me. It's funny but when I ride that early I don't expect any trouble so I go even faster than usual. I made it from EP to Rosemount in less than 25 minutes when i went to DCTC. It's hard to resist opening it up when there's three empty lanes and you can see miles in front of you and don't expect a cop to be on the lookout.

afabbrin
07-28-2004, 02:21 AM
You should try B.I.R. in Spetmeber if you like to go fast. You can top it out every lap down the straight. And then if you're really feeling spunky you can lean it into turn one at that speed!

00R6
07-28-2004, 03:22 AM
If I have the bike and the money I'll be there. DCTC is fun but I definitely want to try BIR. Hopefully I'll get to do both before the cold gets here.

luttersj
07-28-2004, 07:07 AM
Yeah, something like that. I'm not sure yet. One option is to get a different (Read: cheaper) streetbike (a used VFR or something) and then pick up a crashed 600 from crashed toys. If I play my cards right, I could get both of those bikes for the cost of my bike. After looking on cycle trader, it looks like I can safely expect to get $8500 or so...

fjorn
07-28-2004, 07:21 AM
Is your bike paid off? Or is it the other costs that are expensive for you? Also, if it's expensive now for you, I would think that getting a track bike and doing trackdays/racing would be more expensive in the long run.

luttersj
07-28-2004, 08:15 AM
well, it's not paid off now, but it will be by the time spring rolls around (when I think the ball will really start rolling). As far as expense, I'm doing the trackdays now. I'm just not comfortable on my street bike (afraid of crashing) and I think I'd have more fun on a 600 at the track. Plus, more and more my street riding has become less agressive. So if I could get a nice sport touring machine and a 600 for the same price as my bike, that really wouldn't change much. Then there's the potential challenge of rebuilding a crashed bike. That sounds like fun to me. At this point it's just an idea. Something to hash over for a few months. however, if someone wanted to buy my bike right now, that might help speed up my decision... I am concerned, however, that a sport touring bike will leave me wanting more. I've never ridden a VFR, but I've heard the suspensions aren't very adjustable, they weigh 450 pounds dry and have the same power output as current 600s.

Originally posted by luttersj Yeah, something like that. Do it!!!!!!

I hear ya Sheldon. Instead of a VFR though, I'd look at a Yammie FJR. I've talked to a lot of people who own them, and nothing but high praises for them. Shaft drive, torque and HP to satisfy. That's probably what I'm looking at getting in a few years. Mostly because I want to start doing long distance rides, and the R1 isn't the most comfortable or have room for luggage. Also, my wife likes to ride, but on long distance tours, I don't think she'd want to go that far on her own, so this way she could sit on the back comfortably. If I don't get an FJR, I'll go with a V-Max. Hell, I just might get both. :sneaky Otherwise, what about something like an FZ-1 or FZ-6 or along those lines? Not much lose in power, more comfortable than a sport bike, and less expensive. Just a few options. As to the track costs, I realize you're already doing them. I was thinking more along the lines of increased track time and parts such as tires, maintenance, track fees and so forth causing prices to go up. Just brainstorming is all....

afabbrin
07-28-2004, 09:07 AM
The tires are a little more, but you don't go through them too much more than DCTC. If you get your race license (which you could do right now if you wanted to with a 600) then Edge Performance B.I.R. trackdays are only $90. But what's even better is if you have a race license you can participate in Friday pre-race practice days. Anyone with a CRA license can ride those - even if you aren't racing that weekend. This is a full trackday schedule for $50.00!!

luttersj
07-28-2004, 09:55 AM
For sure I'd consider the FJR, FZ1, etc. Also, the SV1000, Falco, Superhawk and the likes. I want to try and combine comfort with minimal loss in performance. I've got some research to do, there's no doubt. I think it would be worthwhile to get my license even if I don't race. Just for the discount!

:lol :lol I suppose a SecaII is out of the question? :dunno Then again, if we upgrade the wife's bike, I'll either sell it to Goody and his wife if she doesn't have one or to John's wife. Who knows, I may just keep it and use it for an early spring/late fall/incliement weather bike. Decisions, decisions...

I was actually leaning towards a GSXR 1000 for my next bike until I found out how much cheaper insurance on a 600 would be. That's about what I got from insurance for my bike so I would be interested if it wasn't for that.

luttersj
07-28-2004, 01:27 PM
Yeah, if you're young, have accidents or tickets on your record, the insurance companies don't like 1000s. For me (28, married, own my home, multiple policies with same agent, clean record), full coverage is under $25/month. I don't know your situation, but have you thought about getting quotes from different companies? I use State Farm. Here's my agent's info. I'm pretty sure State Farm wouldn't insure me because I have two tickets on my record. A few of the companies I called wouldn't even insure an R1. You have a loan and you didn't know you had to have insurance? Anyways... Here's the info about the ride on Sunday: Time: Sunday, August 1st meet at 9:00am Stands up at 9:15am Place: Amoco at County Road J and Centerville Road in White Bear Township.

There's been like three bad ones and they didn't check them right so they're recalling all of them. Something about casting flaws. One of the releases made it look pretty serious, they said you shouldn't even ride your bike in to get it fixed, just stop riding immediately but I'm sure they're just covering their ass in case someone kills themselves or something.

The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one. "

I 'completed' the following items: - get a girls thong - get a girls bra - buy a shot for a girl - get a girl to by me a shot - dance with a girl younger than you - dance with a fat girl - find a girl that's not wearing panties I would have won the game, but another guy reached a new low at the very last moment and completed the one task we didn't expect to be completed: he got a grey pubic hair from lady - the lady driving our taxi cab.... :ugh

Bummer. But if the kickstand is functional, and there are no other factors involved, then it must have not been fully extended. It's an easy thing to do, especially on a bike that you aren't fully familiar with. It could have been right at that balance point then just gave in. :dunno:

Really good Bloody Mary's on Sunday mornings. Not sure on the third place you went . Maybe Rascals Brothers is always a good time The dance club you went to was Shyde's. I know all the bartenders and bouncers that work there so pretty much I drink for free when I go down there. As for the dancing on the bar at Brothers. Too many girls watched the movie Coyote Ugly. For the last 15 minutes of bar time as many girls that can fit on the bar all get up there and dance

Finally got a bike today, it's about damn time. It's a blue '03 636. I like it so far except I don't trust the guy selling it at all so I have no idea what the bike's been through. I was in such a hurry to get it and ride back to Minneapolis that I didn't realize the right side fairing didn't have decals and the frame had some light scuffs. Hopefully the guy wasn't moving too fast when he went down. Plus the stock exhaust is all dented up and it doesn't have a plate. The guy was just really shady, but at least I have a bike now, we'll see how long I can ride without getting pulled over for having no plate. Now I have to start the whole process of getting a bike to my liking again: exhaust, tires, tune-up, sliders, signals, PC3, and on and on. I'm starting to think I should have bought a modded bike so I wouldn't have to put all the effort into it.

Really? I was kind of wondering about that actually. I was thinking maybe I should take it somewhere and have them check it out. I've only ridden R6s and R1s so it feels and sounds way different, I might not even know if something was wrong. The other shady thing was he kept saying I should change the oil right away like it was the original oil or something (it has 1,700 miles). I'm sure the thing has been beaten on but these engines put up with it pretty well I guess.

This bike sure rips for a 600, I'm definitely not as disappointed with the 30 less horsepower than I thought I'd be. It almost feels as powerful unless it's under 8k. it comes up when you shift into second like my R1 did. Plus I forgot how light feeling a 600 feels. So far i'm very happy with it, except for the completely useless tach. About the mods I'm not really into building it up or anything, I'm pretty happy how they come. But I need some tires I can use on the track (probably Corsas), an exhaust to replace the dented one on it now and I need to do something about the hideous rear fender, I've never seen one so huge. So i figure I need at least a grand into to be happy.

Just some follow-up since I came across it: ---------------- BlackHawk is a little more technical then BIR. I like to compare it to a little bit larger then DCTC with a full grown forrest surrounding the track. The turns are much sharper then the picture actually dictates. From turn #7 to #1 you can hit about 140ish if you get a good drive and late braking. Turn 1 is a second gear right hander, 2 is a light 3rd gear left hander. Turn 3 bits a lot of people as its a decreasing radius 2nd gear right hander. 3D is a very tight right hander. 4 & 5 can be treated as the watertower at DCTC, one continuous turn then 6 is another tight right. Between 6 & 6a gets people as well as it appears to be a stright with a kink, but after the kink you have to really slow down for 7 which is comparable to turn 5 at BIR. ----------------
