I would like to know if there are more for my group riding contact list when the weather warms up again. :thumbup conquest_tsi 04-16-2003, 01:45 PM I'm hoping to bring my bike back down here this weekend if I finish getting my tires put on. I took yesterday afternoon off and built a static balancer and got my rear tire swapped out. Any of you guys changed/balanced your own tires? goody1 04-16-2003, 01:53 PM I haven't. Are you on aol messenger? My handle is rdschwanke markeddy 04-16-2003, 02:20 PM Hey,
There are alot of people on this thread that live in the Cities. I have alot of close friends some on this forum that ride alot together or will start to this year.
I am putting together a "buddy list" with the following information. To all who participate I will email a final Excel spreadsheet with everyone's information. That way when some people are planning a ride on a given day or a weekend gig people can call around to either meet up along the way or meet at a given location.
I would encourage all of you in Minnesota if you are looking to have a good time, alot of fun, B.S. with other people and their bike mods, drink/party at a given member's home, or just ride, to submit the following information to me via PM here on the forum and you will get a finalized list around the end of the month (need to give people enough time to respond and get other friends information).
Here is what I am requesting you PM to me -
1. Name - first, last
2. Alias(es) you may use on the forum.
3. Preferred phone # to be reached at (home and/or cell) you can include both or just 1 or the other. The choice is yours, it's easier to contact people with 2 phone numbers.
4. Preferred email address to be contacted at
5. Year, Make, Model, of the bike you own
There are currently 3 people from this forum including myself and another list of 8 people (friends of friends) that are also on the list. We got alot of variety this year in the types of bikes, everything from VTwin Sports to inline-4's, Japanese, Italian, etc.
Right now I am getting this list finalized and then will try to put together a planned ride up to BIR.
I am also trying to get everyone's information together to see if we could get a BBQ/Drinking/Bonfire night together so all the riders with their wives/girlfriends can all get together, meet the people we ride with, B.S., drink, and BBQ.
Thanks everyone! R1SpeedMaster 04-16-2003, 02:31 PM Originally posted by markeddy

We can include you in our contact list too for the BIR AMA races if you wish. Just send a PM to forum member "markeddy" to be updated on our list. markeddy 04-17-2003, 03:26 PM Hey everyone,
I have a good list going of about 12 guys so far. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of people still. I will send the final list out to everyone who participated around the end of of next week around the 24th or 25th.
That will give enough time for other people on this forum to respond, and for some of my other friends to get back to me.

Im down for getting on this list, I also might have a couple of non "1" riders to come with us too. R1SpeedMaster 05-04-2003, 10:55 AM Myself, Mark, Jesse, Jeremy, Russell, & Kevin all met up at Jeremy's house on Friday evening & shot the shit for a little bit & headed down to OPUS for a few laps & had a really, really great time. Well, except for when I ran over a goose while carving. I managed to save it, but the goose went flopping around for a while and eventually wobbled off of the street. No scuffs on my bike either, just where it shit all over on my lower fairing. :ugh
Anyway, after Opus we went for some pizza then headed our own directions. Next time let's see if we can get everybody together all at once.
We didn't get a chance to take many pics, but here are the ones that I did get: R1SpeedMaster 05-04-2003, 10:56 AM #2 R1SpeedMaster 05-04-2003, 10:57 AM #3 R1SpeedMaster 05-04-2003, 11:07 AM Originally posted by m0t03

Hello & you are most welcome to join us! As you can see that we don't all have the privilege of owning R1's so your non-R1-owning friends are also welcome. Just shoot forum member markeddy a PM with your contact info & you will be added. We plan on meeting up a lot this summer so when you get up here, tell us right away & join in on the fun.
Where in S/W Florida are you coming from? I used to live in Tampa for a long time.
:hellobye R1SpeedMaster 05-04-2003, 12:48 PM I was up at the cabin all day on Saturday, so it wasn't me. I know Mark & the other guys were talking about going for a ride tho. VitaminE 05-04-2003, 05:16 PM Ha! Looks like fun. On behalf of the entire forum, I would like to thank you for not including any of your ugly mugs in those snapshots. Ya wouldn't want to spoil a nice pic of some good looking bikes, now would ya?:finger markeddy 05-04-2003, 05:25 PM Next time we will have to setup the camera to do a timed shot and we can get everyone in the pic together with their respective bikes.
I would have to say the COOLEST trick of the day award has to goto Jesse for balancing and spinning his R1 180degrees to get out of Jeremy's driveway LMAO :lol
Although some of the standups and wheelies down the on-ramps to the highways were also a treat to witness!
The ride was a blast! OPUS is the place...just like having your own track! :) markeddy 05-04-2003, 05:29 PM Just wait E! we will get you to break that 2002 Red 998 Bip in the right way!

When I got home that night at midnight, I practised the 180 spin on the kickstand move & now I've got it down pat. It is pretty stable & you just have to have a lot of faith in your kickstand. Thanks for the slick move Jesse. :thumbup R1SpeedMaster 05-05-2003, 06:16 AM Jesse, if you are having problems posting pics, you can email it to me & I can post it for you too. When are we riding this weekend? I am up for Friday evening like last week or Sunday. My Saturday is shot tho :( goody1 05-05-2003, 07:43 AM I can't ride all weekend since I have to go down to Winona for a Family function:( I am kind of a novice rider but you can bet your:butt that I will be down at Opus practicing. It was cool to finally meet up with some of you. I had a blast. I also practiced the 180 spin around saturday and think I got it down pretty good. It was a little bit cool, but fun. We headed over to Scandia to see if my dad wanted to ride with us down to Stillwater, but he wasn't home. Then we contacted a guy from North Branch named Matt who rides a Duc Monster 900. We all went to Stillwater & cruised around for a while, went to McDonalds, then went home. Fairly uneventful, but a good time.

Hey look, it's my 905th post! :)
Anybody riding this weekend? I am up for Saturday. conquest_tsi 05-29-2003, 06:43 AM I'd be up for riding saturday provided I get my bike fixed friday night. R1SpeedMaster 05-29-2003, 08:18 AM Bike fixed?!?!?!! What happened? conquest_tsi 05-29-2003, 09:00 AM I've got the 99 that's an x-race bike. Subframe was damaged by the previous owner and rewelded. Turns out whoever welded it does really shoddy work.
I drove the bike down to sioux falls sd last weekend to visit a college buddy and his wife. While I was there he barrowed a friends cbr so we could do some riding. Might have been a bit on the spirited side and then sunday his wife and a girl he works with went riding with us. I think the extra weight from having a passenger was more the welds could take.
After getting home Monday Night I noticed that all four tubes of the subframe broke their welds loose. So pretty much the only thing holding the tail on was the fact that it's bolted to the gas tank. No good :(
So Friday after work I'm taking it up to my dads to strip it down and reweld it correctly. All goes well it should be back on the road by saturday morning and ready for some more spirited driving. :yesnod conquest_tsi 05-29-2003, 09:11 AM Here's one of broken welds. R1SpeedMaster 05-29-2003, 09:12 AM Holy cow! Look on ebay or this forum for a used subframe too. Re-welding would be the cheapest way to go tho. conquest_tsi 05-29-2003, 09:23 AM Trouble is on the older R1 the whole frame is one welded unit. Wasn't till the newer ones the subframe actually bolts on. I've seen a few older subframes for sale but then of course they have been cut off and still need to be rewelded on. I don't think rewelding this one will be too much trouble though. R1SpeedMaster 05-29-2003, 09:34 AM Looks like you need a rear seat cowl & remove those passenger pegs like I did. No more rides for :boobies . conquest_tsi 05-29-2003, 09:39 AM Originally posted by R1SpeedMaster

I had 3 but sold one to buy my stealth a couple years ago. conquest_tsi 06-03-2003, 07:38 AM Here's the 88. conquest_tsi 06-03-2003, 07:39 AM Here's the 89. conquest_tsi 06-03-2003, 08:19 AM The 88 is in great condition. I bought it back in 96 from a salesman at the mitsu dealer in saint cloud. Only had 23,000 miles on it at the time.
I bought the 89 a few years ago to make into a track car. Had a bad auto so I converted it to a 5spd. Too many other projects going on though so I havn't gotten around to finishing it. vile 06-03-2003, 08:22 AM sweet! those cars are rad.
a friend of mine had one back in high school, didn't run until i got my hands on it though. :) it had a bad transmission so he let it sit for over a year before i came along and put one in for him. by that time, mice had gotten into the damn thing and sabotaged a lot of the wiring and made a mess out of the trunk. pulled a starion transmission from a junkyard and it worked great. the re-wiring took more time than the transmission did and i was really suprised when the car started on the first crank.
the interior of those cars is outrageous, looks like a car from blade runner or something. good times! vile 06-03-2003, 08:25 AM wow! only 23k!!??
how much did they sell it to you for? conquest_tsi 06-03-2003, 08:42 AM The saleman had traded it in like a year before that and kept it for himself. Of the 23k he only put like 1500 miles on it. He was asking $8500 at the time and I got for what he had in it which was $6500. Whoever traded it in got shafted pretty good because it was in perfect condition at the time. It's still In pretty decent shape. It's got around 85k on it now but mostly highway miles.
Had some guy see it in the driveway and stopped wanting to buy it. I said thanks but no thanks, the car is nearly irreplaceable. There are very few left out there in good condition and getting someone to part with one of those is tougher yet. vile 06-03-2003, 09:13 AM Originally posted by conquest_tsi

you lucky bastard!
though it has to be pretty tough and costly these days to find replacement parts for things that break in those cars. hope you haven't had much trouble in that respect. conquest_tsi 06-03-2003, 10:04 AM There is a pretty decent message/parts board out there. You'd be surprised how many people buy them to part out. It's thinning them out like crazy but for now it makes a surplus of parts. I've been pretty lucky so far not to need anything major. Of course since it's the identicle car to the mitsubishi starion I can get most parts at the mitsubishi dealer. That is as long as they still have them inventoried. Electronics are crazy spendy though. R1SpeedMaster 06-03-2003, 11:22 AM Hey, who is up for a ride on Friday after work? Even if we don't ride bcuz of rain, let meet up for a beer... :beer vile 06-03-2003, 12:59 PM losers! get out of work right now and ride! itz SUPER nice! probably the best day of the week. .\ went home for lunch, changed the oil on my car and rode the bike back to work. conditions are near ideal.
anyone going to the saints game on saturday? i'll be there tailgating and watching baseball if anyone is interested.
friday i'm booked. R1SpeedMaster 06-03-2003, 01:21 PM I am stuck here. :( I might be able to duck out a little early, but not much. grrrrr. Oh well. Looks nice outside tho, but I wouldn't know. I haven't been outside since I got here at 6:30AM. :cryin vile 06-03-2003, 01:25 PM damn. sorry to hear that john. i feel for ya, i really do... ;)
i think i'll take another break and go do some yoga on the office lawn for awhile. :lol vile 06-03-2003, 01:28 PM oh yeah, before i forget again... who had the genius idea of naming this squadron the "attack pack"? that is about the lamest name i can think of! other than the "buddy pack" :lol
seriously, i vote for a name change!
edit: blech, on second thought, i take that back. i don't care enough to vote for a name change. R1SpeedMaster 06-03-2003, 01:40 PM Originally posted by vile

R1SpeedMaster 06-04-2003, 12:43 PM hahahahhahaa, did you call my house & talk to her? :lol :lol :lol
Yeah, she nags me, but then again, what wife doesn't? conquest_tsi 06-04-2003, 12:43 PM I think I'm suffering R1 withdrawal, and it's only been since Sunday. Stuck driving the 3000 this week since I've been driving up to my dads everyday so far this week where my fzr is stored. Trying to get it ready for this weekend when I haul it down to sioux falls to finally get rid of it. Selling it to a buddy's coworker.
How many miles are you guys typically getting out of your tires. I just put on a new set of d208zr's about a month ago and it's already 1/3-1/2 gone in the middle. So I ordered 2 more rear tires and another front monday :rock VitaminE 06-04-2003, 12:51 PM So. . .today is my brother's birthday and last night when I got home from work 1:00am (he get's up for work at 4:00am) I left him a card with $50 in it from me and I got a small package and wrapped it up and put, "to Scott from Peanut and Chopper (our dogs)." Then what I did was take one of Choppers turds and tossed it in there. Holy crap was it funny! He woke me up laughing his ass off! Then he re-set the present and wrote a note for my Mom. It said, "Mom check out what the puppies bought me!" Then about 6:00am she woke me up laughing. It was a good time. :jump vile 06-04-2003, 01:02 PM hmm... i don't think i would refer to "stuck driving the 3000" as "suffering".
make sure you have a decent tire pressure when riding on the freeway. must be a lot of long straight roads around the monticello area.... vile 06-04-2003, 01:06 PM fjorn, try the metzeler sportec m1 if you want to try a different tire.
might also help you to adjust tire pressure and suspension with those dunlops. and remember, warm the suckers up before you start leaning the bike over!! :) vile 06-04-2003, 01:30 PM well, if we ever get together in the near future, i'll help you set your suspension up if you like. actually changing the settings is really easy, having the right reason for your changes is tougher though. conquest_tsi 06-04-2003, 01:35 PM Originally posted by vile

Yeah, guess I won't be getting any sympathy for that :lol
I've probably put close to 2000 miles on these tires already, plus about 900 of those were when I took it to sioux falls sd for memorial day weekend. I've decided to stick with a 180 since thats what was on there and worked pretty well. Been real happy with the d208zr's so far and can get them pretty reasonable off the web. R1SpeedMaster 06-04-2003, 03:16 PM I've got BT010r on my bike. I really like them. I have had no problems at all. I have put about 2,000 miles on them & I figure about 50% tread left. I would get them again.
If you want to stiffen up your suspension, Shawn, just come over. It would only take about a half an hour. You can ride my bike too & see if you like the way that I have it set up (I can't believe I just said that, I never let anyone ride my baby). vile 06-04-2003, 03:32 PM yeah, bt010 lasts longer than the average sportbike tire. R1SpeedMaster 06-04-2003, 03:40 PM Kelley, you have the M1's on your bike? Those were actually my first choice, but I was at Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin last Summer watching the races & on my way over there, I noticed that I had worn my Dunlop down to the threads, literally. The dealership only had a few tires that were my size, so I chose the BT010. I am surprisingly happy too. :yesnod vile 06-05-2003, 07:56 AM woohoo! DEC Alpha! i love the Alpha arch. :) what do you have over there fjorn? 21164s? or the newer 21264s?
john, no i do not have M1s on my bike. still have stock dunlops which perform fine for me. heard too many good things about the M1s not to try them after these ones wear out. conquest_tsi 06-05-2003, 08:22 AM Woo Hoo, my extra d208zr's just showed up this morning. Now I should be set for the rest of this riding season. :lol :lol :lol R1SpeedMaster 06-05-2003, 08:31 AM When are you putting them on Russell? vile 06-05-2003, 08:35 AM fjorn, yeah i was more than a little let down when the whole Compaq/HP deal went down and the Alpha arch was sold to Intel. Alpha was, is, and will be the best 64bit computing arch for some time yet. shame that it, and the operating system that was written for it, are being buried.
get rid of those HP-UX machines! that is by far the worst UNIX platform i've ever used. pos. conquest_tsi 06-05-2003, 08:47 AM Originally posted by R1SpeedMaster

These are just extra's, I currently have a set of these on the bike. Wanted to see how they did before ordering more. I should be able to get another 1500-2000 out of the rear yet. I ordered 2 more rears and one more front just so I don't have to wait when I wear one out. The set I have on the bike now took almost 3 weeks to get so I figured I'd order well in advance. Go figure this time they showed up in 3 days. vile 06-05-2003, 10:05 AM did you recently update or patch the system? as long as all your scsi devices are working properly, you can ignore that message...
er... PM. heh. oh well, i'm sure if anyone minds, itz only john so no biggy. :) vile 06-05-2003, 01:24 PM hmm... 3 disks died eh? which disks? could it be that the disk that your /etc sits on is also in a questionable state of functionality? vile 06-05-2003, 02:03 PM rlogin from any system!? i hope you have that on a private net!?
i'd say stick 5.1a,b on the machine, if itz supported that is. if nothing else, reinstall the 4.0 version.
if you could get your hands on one of those DS20s when they get pitched, you'd have a pretty nice machine. 667Mhz or 833? vile 06-05-2003, 02:49 PM fook man! that really sucks!! i would hate having to be on call at any time w/o making HUGE bucks for it. how far are you from your workplace?

It was the year before they came out with the Tacoma. I bought it brand new. I still love the truck, but with our 3rd kid, I can't fit all da chirens in mah hoop-dee anymore. I have a little bit of rust starting to form on the very bottom of the doors, but I had it rust proofed by Toyota when I bought it & it is still under warrantee. Mark looks like the type to stick his dick in a prairie dog too... :lol :lol conquest_tsi 06-16-2003, 11:49 AM I must have put around 400 miles on this weekend. Seems like my luck is still not real good. Last time I put a ton of miles on over the weekend my frame broke. That seems to be holding up nicely and now a new problem.
This time my rear sprocket pretty much crapped out. :( It had an aluminum 44 tooth on there and looked great when I got the bike last fall but this weekend it aparently it finished wearing to the point of no return. I made a trip up to Denniskirk and picked up a new chain and sprocket kit with a chromoly front and steel rear sprocket. By the time I got to tearing it a apart saturday night I realized my 44 tooth sprocket is now a 23 tooth sprocket. Oops. :2bitchsla conquest_tsi 06-16-2003, 05:04 PM Damn, that explains alot. No wonder I always get screwed going thru drivethrough :lol I guess chalk another one up to experience. markeddy 06-16-2003, 06:14 PM A 23 tooth rear sprocket...WOW....My 998 is Front sprocket 15; Rear sprocket 36.
Is there something I am missing about the rear being a 23 tooth? The reason I ask is a 2003 R1 has a 43/16 rear/front sprocket setup. conquest_tsi 06-16-2003, 06:50 PM The reason is was a 23 tooth was because 21 of the 44 broke off. Wasn't pretty. R1SpeedMaster 06-17-2003, 06:16 AM Wud up, Yo's??? I just got back from chumming with the CEO of my company in Vail, Colorado on Sunday evening. Now I am ready to ride again!!! Holy cow, it would have been nice to have my 1 out there in the twisties of the Rocky Mountains!!!
I've got lots of nice pics. If anybody wants to see them, let me know. We had a private concert by Cheryl Crow, then partied all night with the band afterwards.
Russell, bummer news about your bike. Get it fixed & let's go riding. My family will be in town this weekend, so I won't be able to get away for too long, but I can go for a while. My older brother can come too. He will jump on the Turbo Busa. conquest_tsi 06-17-2003, 07:13 AM Hehe, I'd be scared of having the gear ratio of a 16" Huffy on the R1. That thing was wheely happy enough running a 44 tooth in the back. The chain/sprocket kit I put on saturday night had the stock 43 so now my speedometer should be reading accurately again.
It rides much smoother and quieter now after ditching the worn sprockets and chain. I think that was the original chain and the bike is at 17,000 miles now. R1SpeedMaster 06-17-2003, 08:11 AM Brainerd is going to be a lot of fun!!! vile 06-17-2003, 11:20 AM hmm... how much are tix on raceday[i.e. sunday]. anyone know? i will go with anyone leaving on sunday[weather permitting of course].
anyone know? R1SpeedMaster 06-17-2003, 03:27 PM Count on the tickets being $50 to $75 per person. I think that it automatically includes a paddock pass too though. markeddy 06-17-2003, 06:23 PM Saturday is the day R1Speedmaster, myself, and possibly Abe Froman will be riding up there. Is anyone else going to join us that day?
Also, I can't go on Sunday because I will be leaving for Las Vegas for a few days...
Cheryl Crow?@@#! I think it's neat that you got to meet someone famous like that, but as far as she is concerned (in my mind) she can pack up her bags and move the HELL out of this country.
She is a pathetic excuse for an American with all her ranting a raving ANTI-WAR in IRAQ rhetoric. She may be a nice person but her politics stink, and I have no respsect for her and her lack of respect for this country and our President.
Personally I would have passed, but knowing the position you were in with your CEO being there, that may have been a different case.
Just my opinion... R1SpeedMaster 06-17-2003, 07:45 PM :lol :lol :lol
Yeah, my favorite part was when we all held hands in a big circle & sung Koombaya together...
I am not even a Cheryl Crow fan, but she was a good entertainer. They were all very nice people. I don't know about her political standing, and honestly I don't care. A few overpaid beatnik singers are not going to determine whether or not this country goes to war.
I have to give her one thing tho, she did sing a song that she wrote for the victims of 9/11 & for our soldiers & troops overseas. That was pretty cool. markeddy 06-17-2003, 08:50 PM Oh you didn't see all her ranting a raving, all those Hollywood elites going on about their ANTI-WAR pitch -
http://www.drudgereportarchives.com/data/2003/02/24/20030224_064624_cbs.htm
Peacenick is right...Koombaya?#@! What the #$#@!
Cheryl Crow can eat crow for all I am concerned.
You apparently don't see the hypocracy in some people like I do, I don't buy it, and I do care about what a person's standing is because it determines what music I buy or listen to because I don't want to give them an ounce of my money as protest to their behaviour.
There now didn't I just make everything a bright shiny star... :) vile 06-17-2003, 09:06 PM o-k. so mark is republican. down mark! down! please don't turn this thread into a political rant. yeesh! markeddy 06-17-2003, 09:25 PM :rock
I was just commenting on the hypocracy of people, and how they say one thing and do another.
I know you are just joking but it hits a nerve with me regarding people like Cheryl "I like to eat" Crow. R1SpeedMaster 06-18-2003, 06:21 AM hahahahahahaa. I agree with you Mark. You know my political standings already. We are on the same boat. However, isn't the fact that anybody & everybody's ability to voice their own opinion what makes this country so great? She is paid to sing, play guitar, & shake her little ass. I couldn't care less if she wears a "F-You, Pres. Bush" t-shirt, or encourages lesbians to keep on licking, or run around naked with a carrot jammed up her ass making farm animal noises. None of those actions affect me or my country. I would never buy her CD either, honestly, I don't even buy CDs from the bands that I do like (that is what Kazaa is for).
Once we start shipping anybody that has different political/social/religious views out of this country, then we are going against what this country is all about and enter into another era of McCarthyism. Like I said, I agree with you completely, but as long as she pays her taxes to support the war that she against, I don't care what she does. R1SpeedMaster 06-18-2003, 06:29 AM Regarding the influencial value of entertainers, have you ever met anyone who said that they weren't going to vote for somebody bcuz Natalie Maines (the fat girl in the Dixie Chicks), or whoever, said that they were against them? I haven't. I think that the general public views the political stances of entertainers as a big joke. R1SpeedMaster 06-18-2003, 06:52 AM OK. Case closed.
A paddock pass is a pit pass. Full access to the pits to get close ups of the bikes & meet the riders. :rock R1SpeedMaster 06-18-2003, 07:37 AM I will bring my digital camera. Mark has one too. Sorry Kelley, my mom would never be seen outdoors with that many grays! :lol
"Ree-peat 0-fender" - That is what a cop called me in 29 Palms, California. The same cop pulled me over like 3 times in 2 days. He said to me, "Mr. Harnetty, are you going to be my repeat offender?" :lol :lol :lol
:beer Here's to you, piggly wiggly, suckin' my dick!!!
I have never had any good run-ins with cops. As a matter of fact, it was about 1 year ago exactly that I gave that MN Hwy Patrolman's wife the finger. :finger :finger :finger R1SpeedMaster 06-19-2003, 06:44 AM Originally posted by fjorn

Hey! My new titanium exhaust hanger came in yesterday. It's the shiznit...
Next mods: yellow box & sliders. R1SpeedMaster 07-03-2003, 11:21 AM You should have stopped by. My door is always open to you guys.
That carnival is fun. I am going up to the lake today tho, so I can't attend it this year. :( Oh well, I will be fishing instead.
Speaking of fishing, for the next 3 weeks I am going to be travelling. Next week I am in Phoenix, then the week of the 14th I am in Alaska, and finally the week of the 21st I am back in Phoenix. yuck. Well, Phoenix is yuck. Alaska will be fun fly fishing for salmon. vile 07-03-2003, 12:39 PM yeah, phoenix f uckin sucks dog shit. take some with you and watch it suck.... ok... I've got some in a baggie. I tell you what happens when I get there.
I don't think that it will be too bad. At least I am not down there for too long & I have some friends waiting for me down there. markeddy 07-06-2003, 12:50 AM July isn't looking too hopeful for riding. I suggest we all goto Goody's sometime in August, swim, get tan or burnt for some, and eat/drink. So how about it Goody are you up for that?
I am not sure if anyone knows what day/time those 394/12 SuperAmerica riders meet up on but I went down there Saturday July 5th and there was no one there.
I figured I could ride out there really quick to get a glimpse of the crowd that hangs out over there and get a good laugh at all of the GROUND MEAT hanging out there....
I do believe a couple of people e-mailed me and said from time to time they stop down there...but I can't remember who... markeddy 07-06-2003, 12:53 AM So Shawn how are the repairs going on the R1 these days? Hope everything is going well... R1SpeedMaster 07-06-2003, 11:23 AM Shawn you will be happy with your flushies. Are you getting Gregg's Eggs? R1SpeedMaster 07-06-2003, 04:06 PM
I like those upper marker lights on the 02 - 03 models. What color LEDs are you going to make them? Somebody on here turned them green & it looks pretty good. I would rather go with blue tho, but that's just me. vile 07-07-2003, 10:12 AM mark-
if you want to ride w/ the 394 super america schmucks, get there by 10pm on fri or sat.
i've done it twice over the past 4 years and both times sucked for me. the people there aren't overly friendly as one should expect of a decent group ride.
also, i don't know about you but i don't like testing my limits by going 100mph+ through 394/94 sat night traffic at 11pm with 20-40+ other idiots. vile 07-07-2003, 10:14 AM oh yeah, anyone want to ride this friday evening? R1SpeedMaster 07-07-2003, 05:39 PM I wish that I could too, but I will be in Bristol Bay, Alaska. I am in Phoenix right now & it is HOT. Not too bad tho. The temp is 100 something, but it is dry. Liter Boy 07-07-2003, 08:54 PM Hey has anyone one done Double O lately. I'm still trying to get down there. 394 group is some you have to do once just to say you done it. It sucks that you can't park downtown any more though. fly-guy318 07-07-2003, 09:06 PM I'm from MN. I' m south of Mankato with very few people to ride with, if anyone is close or comming this way just let me know and I'd be more than happy to ride. vile 07-08-2003, 07:18 AM fly-guy, i'm in chaska which isn't too bad of a drive to mankato. find some nice roads and i'd probably go for a ride at some point... R1SpeedMaster 07-08-2003, 08:13 AM Ahhhh 'kato. Good times... Good times... vile 07-08-2003, 08:37 AM hey! pay attention to phoenix! R1SpeedMaster 07-08-2003, 10:35 AM hahahaa. I am... Mom. vile 07-08-2003, 10:38 AM ahhh... the sun has just appeared in the sky. time to go home and pull out the bike. :) seein any bikers roasting their nuts in phoenix john? R1SpeedMaster 07-09-2003, 11:58 AM I only have seen 1 sport bike so far!!! It was a gixxer & just putting along a small road. Very depressing. I guess I should contact the R1-forum squadron members down here (if there are any).
That is all there is down here is sun. Yesterday was a high here of 108, today will be hotter, & they say end of the week will be 116. Yikes. It actually isn't that bad tho. It's hot, but not sticky & muggy like MN. R1SpeedMaster 07-10-2003, 09:07 AM Pretty much, unfortunately. I have even posted a thread in the SW R1-014 squadron to meet up with any local Phoenix riders & not one person has replied. Oh well. R1SpeedMaster 07-10-2003, 09:19 AM :lol :lol :lol
I just checked my Phoenix Riders thread & obviously there have been no replies, but it has only been viewed 6 times!!?!!?? I have probably viewed it 4 out of the 6 too. :no R1SpeedMaster 07-10-2003, 09:26 AM I guess I will have to do that! This is an R1 mecca. R1SpeedMaster 07-10-2003, 01:26 PM Nobody rides motorcycles down here! I have asked about dirt bikes too, & everybody looks at me like I was just sucking on a glass dick, burning a rock. This place would be awesome for a dirt bike too.
I am leaving for the airport in 3 1/2 hours to come home. When I leave for AK, tomorrow at noon, I won't have any communication with you guys until I return on the 21st. When I get back, I will have 25 lbs. (that is the max that I can carry on the plane) of freshly caught salmon to share with you all if you want.
Stay cool (literally)
John vile 07-10-2003, 02:05 PM john, take some pics of the alaskan land/ocean scape. i know you have dat digi cam, use it! have fun...
again, anyone besides these 2 jokers want to get together on friday evening for a ride? possibly sat during the early-mid day also.... R1SpeedMaster 07-10-2003, 04:44 PM Will do Kelley. Unfortunately, I will be leaving MN for Arizona again the day after I get home from Alaska tho. I will be back (for a little while anyway) late Friday night, July 25th. R1SpeedMaster 07-11-2003, 09:06 AM That's not partying, that's called "working the street corner". :lol :lol :lol
She's earning her part of the mortgage. Hell, last night she brought home $420.10, and I said, "Who was the cheap bastige that gave you only 10 cents???" and she said, "All of them." hahahahahahhahaaaaaa markeddy 07-12-2003, 07:41 PM .10c a pop...man that's CHEAP!
Hey everyone sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys, I was out of town in Vegas last week and I never did get a chance to reply or get out to ride with any of you guys on Friday. Besides the weather sucked and I got my 998 caught in some rain while out running errands.
I know what the warm weather is like John...when we flew into Vegas it got up to 114 that day and was 105 the rest of the week we were down there.
I guess the reason no one rides is because even with light gear or no gear it would be WAY TOO HOT. I did see one guy going down the Strip on a GSXR-750 (yellow/black) while we were leaving the hotel to goto the M&M store (4 floors of all M&M goodies) whoohoo, it was kinda neat though.
I am working Saturday 7/12, Sunday 7/13, and Saturday 7/19 for people that are on vacation. I will probably take next Friday off completely so I would be up for a ride on the 18th of July if any of you guys want to ride for a little that evening weather providing of course... Liter Boy 07-13-2003, 07:05 PM Hey I was going to give hey twenty cents but she didn't have change for my quater goody1 07-15-2003, 09:13 AM July isn't looking too hopeful for riding. Mark just let me know what weekend you guys have open and I'll see what's going on. I think i'd be a good time. I've been in and out of town that last 2 weeks for work but now I'm back for a while.:beer :beer Liter Boy 07-16-2003, 07:13 PM Keep me in mind. K:bash R1SpeedMaster 07-20-2003, 06:51 PM Dudes, I'm baaaaack (well, from Alaska anyway). I leave for Phoenix tomorrow at 8:00am. :( oh well, I will be back this Friday night for a while. No more trips scheduled for me for a little while, whoo-hoo.
Anyway, I have an a$$ load of fresh, fresh salmon & like 250 pictures & videos that I took up there. I am all salmoned out tho. That is all I ate for the past week. Give me a burger, mmmmmmm, cheeseburger....
Anyway, I gotta go now. I'll burn my pics to disk & bring them down south with me so I can show you them this week. When I get back (late Friday night), I want to do some serious riding. :thumbup vile 07-21-2003, 07:50 AM Cha...
hey mark eddy, thanx for the invite on friday. i was in wisconsin that day and the 2 following days so meeting at bobs cycle didn't really work out. maybe this weekend though, after johnny gets back. R1SpeedMaster 07-21-2003, 12:50 PM My place sounds great! I will keep everyone informed. I get back this weekend, and next weekend I am up in Duluth for a softball tournament, but the weekends following I am a free bird (well, pretty much). goody1 07-21-2003, 01:53 PM hey fjorn, where do you take classes for martial arts? :lol :lol :lol goody1 07-21-2003, 03:04 PM That's cool. I'm actually just starting Karate in Elk River. Something to do I guess R1SpeedMaster 07-21-2003, 03:57 PM I used to take karate or some type of MA when I was young. I can't remember which one it was tho. It was fun & I did it for a year or so until we had to move again. R1SpeedMaster 07-21-2003, 04:05 PM I will let everyone know when we have our next get together. Ask Mark Eddy if they are fun or not. heh heh heh...
I will bbq a few salmon steaks for y'all then. :thumbup vile 07-21-2003, 04:58 PM hmm... i think the concensus is that guns are better than wasabe fighting style. at least in minnesota anywhoo..... R1SpeedMaster 07-21-2003, 04:59 PM If I was at home, I would insert the little stick video of the guy going "Waaaaaaaaa..." and doing Karate kicks & punches, then the other stick guy just pulls out his pistol & shoots him down. :lol :lol :lol That video kills me. R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 08:36 AM What kind of handgun are you planning on getting, Shawn? I have many for you to try out, if you would like. R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 10:15 AM I have a Ruger P90DC .45 & I absolutely love it. We can go to the Flake gun club range & fire a few boxes thru it if you would like. But you are right on with wanting a 45. That is a people killer right there. R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 10:16 AM Hey look, it's post # 999 for me! R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 10:52 AM 1000 :hellobye goody1 07-22-2003, 11:12 AM John, that's the best you could do for your 1000th post. I was

I am not at home, so I don't have any :boobies pics to put up. I do have this shot of my ugly mug from last week up in Alaska with a buck Sockeye... goody1 07-22-2003, 11:21 AM That's a nice looking PINK FISH you got there. What's it smell like? R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 11:30 AM Smells like pussy. Tastes like chicken. Here is a nice colored Chum Salmon. R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 11:33 AM At that point in my trip, trust me Shawn, it smelled better too. ;) goody1 07-22-2003, 11:33 AM So John, When's the big Salmon cookout? R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 11:40 AM Jer, I will let everyone know when I get back into town. It will be soon, that is for sure! R1SpeedMaster 07-22-2003, 12:42 PM No renting of bikes, cars, or anything. The Hilton is right next to my office building. I just walk. I have friends that drive down here too if I really need to go somewhere. markeddy 07-22-2003, 11:04 PM Shawn,
I have a Kimber Custom .45, and it's one of the nicest .45's built for the money, more so than the COLT.
Match grade barrel and trigger
Enlarged firing pin stop locks the extractor in position for reliability.
Slightly extended slide release buttons.
Beveled magazine wells.
Polished breech face for flawless feeding and extraction.
My dad and I shot Combat pistol/practical pistol last year and it was an awesome learning experience.
My dad has shot combat pistol since the early 70's as at least EXPERT class if not MASTER which I believe is beyond EXPERT classification...I can't recall exactly. I know for a fact he has gone up against and beat some of the best ATF, FBI, and other local law enforcement people in this region for alot of years back in the 70's and 80's. The trophy room he had back when we lived in North St. Paul was rediculous. He is very good to say the least.
He taught me alot of common sense and practical skills on the range by ourselves. None of this junk you read about, but real situational stuff like someone trying to reach or work their way in close.
MA doesn't stand a chance to a competent handgun shooter. The key is already MENTALLY preparing yourself ahead of time to make the decision to defend yourself and stop whomever is trying to put you or your family in harms way.
Many people today go out and buy a gun, run a clip of ammunition through it and think they are completely prepared and know how to use it when the situation arises. WRONG....
Like anything in life including riding you have to keep practicing and sharpening your skills. It didn't take you 5 years for nothing to become a 2nd degree black belt...right? That took practice and dedication to keep learning and improving...the same goes for handguns or rifles for that matter.
The problem today with local law enforcement is they are "College" smart or should i say dumbed down and not street smart. That's not how it was when my dad and several of his close friends were in law enforcement in Minnesota.
The other problem today with most people and people in law enforcement is they select a lighter caliber pistol and focus on quantity and not the quality of there shooting.
Today alot of local law enforcement uses a 9mm which has a greater capacity magazine but less stopping/shock power in the caliber. These new "officers" today are so mentally unprepared to get into a gunfight let alone lack proficiency to hit a target, so they commission them with a gun that can "SPRAY" instead of focusing on accuracy and hitting the target. Pathetic...
Granted there are some people who naturally have the ability to handle a rifle or handgun. Not to be arrogant but I happen to consider myself one of these people because of just being around and watching my dad for so many years...it's always come naturally to me and I was proficient very quickly I feel.
Anyway, look at the Kimber if you want a solid, well built, accurate handgun.
And oh we should all go over to Armored fire someday. I can bring my Kimber .45, and Colt AR-15 along and you can try those out...it would be alot fun and not that expensive. R1SpeedMaster 07-23-2003, 08:37 AM Shawn, going to the rifle range was a hoot, wasn't it? I loved that. Before my active duty stint was over, I got my 2nd award expert badge. I scored a 232/250. I also really liked the gas chamber. People thought that I was wierd, but I loved it when people would freak out & panic. :lol :lol :lol I also got a kick out of watching people get out of there with 3 feet of snot dripping from their face. :lol
Good times, good times... R1SpeedMaster 07-23-2003, 09:05 AM 1 shot, 1 kill... R1SpeedMaster 07-23-2003, 12:31 PM I can't hear it. Stupid work computer!!! It says some error about not having a wave device. | |
