Minnesota Riders

Who and where are all the riders from Minnesota? The only one I know is R1SpeedMaster. Lets get a list. I'm kinda new so if this has already been done let me know.:fact

The list of Minnesota riders that I have, aside from you & I, include: conquest_tsi, Miah007R1, MN_R1, fjorn, markeddy, & VitaminE I would like to know if there are more for my group riding contact list when the weather warms up again. :thumbup

I'm hoping to bring my bike back down here this weekend if I finish getting my tires put on. I took yesterday afternoon off and built a static balancer and got my rear tire swapped out. Any of you guys changed/balanced your own tires?

I haven't. Monticello isn't too far from me. I'm in the west part of Maple Grove!

Hey, There are alot of people on this thread that live in the Cities. I have alot of close friends some on this forum that ride alot together or will start to this year. I am putting together a "buddy list" with the following information. To all who participate I will email a final Excel spreadsheet with everyone's information. That way when some people are planning a ride on a given day or a weekend gig people can call around to either meet up along the way or meet at a given location. I would encourage all of you in Minnesota if you are looking to have a good time, alot of fun, B.S. with other people and their bike mods, drink/party at a given member's home, or just ride, to submit the following information to me via PM here on the forum and you will get a finalized list around the end of the month (need to give people enough time to respond and get other friends information). Here is what I am requesting you PM to me - 1. Name - first, last 2. Alias(es) you may use on the forum. 3. Preferred phone # to be reached at (home and/or cell) you can include both or just 1 or the other. The choice is yours, it's easier to contact people with 2 phone numbers. 4. Preferred email address to be contacted at 5. Year, Make, Model, of the bike you own There are currently 3 people from this forum including myself and another list of 8 people (friends of friends) that are also on the list. We got alot of variety this year in the types of bikes, everything from VTwin Sports to inline-4's, Japanese, Italian, etc. Right now I am getting this list finalized and then will try to put together a planned ride up to BIR. I am also trying to get everyone's information together to see if we could get a BBQ/Drinking/Bonfire night together so all the riders with their wives/girlfriends can all get together, meet the people we ride with, B.S., drink, and BBQ. Sounds like this summer should be alot of fun and good times. So far I've gotten to put almost 1,000 miles on already. I guess I'll be getting alot of practice changing tires this summer. :lol

Most of those trips will be in Minnesota and western South Dakota. We'd love to get on some group rides and hangouts.

Hey everyone, I have a good list going of about 12 guys so far. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of people still. I will send the final list out to everyone who participated around the end of of next week around the 24th or 25th. That will give enough time for other people on this forum to respond, and for some of my other friends to get back to me. :)

Im coming back to MN for the summer, the bike and I will be back Thurs May 9th. Im down for getting on this list, I also might have a couple of non "1" riders to come with us too.

Myself, Mark, Jesse, Jeremy, Russell, & Kevin all met up at Jeremy's house on Friday evening & shot the shit for a little bit & headed down to OPUS for a few laps & had a really, really great time. Well, except for when I ran over a goose while carving. I managed to save it, but the goose went flopping around for a while and eventually wobbled off of the street. No scuffs on my bike either, just where it shit all over on my lower fairing. :ugh Anyway, after Opus we went for some pizza then headed our own directions. Next time let's see if we can get everybody together all at once. We didn't get a chance to take many pics, but here are the ones that I did get:

Next time we will have to setup the camera to do a timed shot and we can get everyone in the pic together with their respective bikes. I would have to say the COOLEST trick of the day award has to goto Jesse for balancing and spinning his R1 180degrees to get out of Jeremy's driveway LMAO :lol Although some of the standups and wheelies down the on-ramps to the highways were also a treat to witness! The ride was a blast! OPUS is the place...just like having your own track! :)

Just wait E! we will get you to break that 2002 Red 998 Bip in the right way! Oh by the way everyone I get my Termignoni 1/2 exhaust put on Thursday, funny thing is I blew out my H3 (highbeam) bulb on the away back home somehow and now I have to order another I guess. :(

I can't ride all weekend since I have to go down to Winona for a Family function:( I am kind of a novice rider but you can bet your:butt that I will be down at Opus practicing. It was cool to finally meet up with some of you. I had a blast. I also practiced the 180 spin around saturday and think I got it down pretty good. R1SpeedMaster, if you do go riding this weekend don't take no S_H_I_T for any Geese. :p

It was a blast! I will never forget after R1Speedmaster tagged the g00se, it fell over like a domino then slowly got up and ruffled it's feathers and walked across the road over to the pond. LMAO, I wish I would have capture that in MPEG format on my camera! :lol

How was the ride for those of you who went this weekend? I would've loved to have been there. I'm going to be out of town again this weekend which sucks but at the same time is sweet cause I'm going to Vegas with a buddy of mine to :beer and see :boobies

Mark & I went for a night ride on Friday night. It was a little bit cool, but fun. We headed over to Scandia to see if my dad wanted to ride with us down to Stillwater, but he wasn't home. Then we contacted a guy from North Branch named Matt who rides a Duc Monster 900. We all went to Stillwater & cruised around for a while, went to McDonalds, then went home. Fairly uneventful, but a good time. Mark & I had 6 deer jump out in front of us. :eek: I hate deer worse than geese!!!

Attention: This Saturday is Delano sports center's open house (pig roast, music, prizes and chicks:boobies ) I think that would be a cool ride. I would have emailed those of you on the "list" but I forgot to save your addresses. Also, and perhaps more important, Delano is having their demo ride day on Friday. I have taken it off work so I can thrash their Aprilia Mille. I will ride out if anyone is interested. They also demo a 749 Ducati:yesnod . Finally my dog Chopper (as seen in my avitar) has the runs and is crapping everywhere:confused: . Good day. . .

OK...OK...I finally got off my lazy you know what and plugged in the camera... I believe we had a total...wait let me count...oh yeah 9 bikes total, I believe if I am correct they were the following: Honda CB750 Ducati Monster 900 Silver Yamaha R1 Red Honda Superhawk Yellow Ducati 998 Red Yamaha R1 Blue Suzuki GSX-R600 Aprilia Tuono Red Ducati 998 (all the way in the back by the guy with shades in picture #1. That would be VitaminE). It was a really good time, we carved some of those corners in excess of well I better not say... There are 5 pictures I took here they go....

Bike fixed?!?!?!! What happened?

I've got the 99 that's an x-race bike. Subframe was damaged by the previous owner and rewelded. Turns out whoever welded it does really shoddy work. I drove the bike down to sioux falls sd last weekend to visit a college buddy and his wife. While I was there he barrowed a friends cbr so we could do some riding. Might have been a bit on the spirited side and then sunday his wife and a girl he works with went riding with us. I think the extra weight from having a passenger was more the welds could take. After getting home Monday Night I noticed that all four tubes of the subframe broke their welds loose. So pretty much the only thing holding the tail on was the fact that it's bolted to the gas tank. No good :( So Friday after work I'm taking it up to my dads to strip it down and reweld it correctly. All goes well it should be back on the road by saturday morning and ready for some more spirited driving. :yesnod

Holy cow! Look on ebay or this forum for a used subframe too. Re-welding would be the cheapest way to go tho.

Trouble is on the older R1 the whole frame is one welded unit. Wasn't till the newer ones the subframe actually bolts on. I've seen a few older subframes for sale but then of course they have been cut off and still need to be rewelded on. I don't think rewelding this one will be too much trouble though.

Looks like you need a rear seat cowl & remove those passenger pegs like I did. No more rides for :boobies .

The bike is back on the road. Got my subframe welded back up friday night and seems good as new. Welds aren't real pretty but I was going more for function than looks. Guess I'll just have to add some more carbon fiber to cover it up. :)

The 88 is in great condition. I bought it back in 96 from a salesman at the mitsu dealer in saint cloud. Only had 23,000 miles on it at the time. I bought the 89 a few years ago to make into a track car. Had a bad auto so I converted it to a 5spd. Too many other projects going on though so I havn't gotten around to finishing it.

sweet! those cars are rad. a friend of mine had one back in high school, didn't run until i got my hands on it though. :) it had a bad transmission so he let it sit for over a year before i came along and put one in for him. by that time, mice had gotten into the damn thing and sabotaged a lot of the wiring and made a mess out of the trunk. pulled a starion transmission from a junkyard and it worked great. the re-wiring took more time than the transmission did and i was really suprised when the car started on the first crank. the interior of those cars is outrageous, looks like a car from blade runner or something. good times!

The saleman had traded it in like a year before that and kept it for himself. Of the 23k he only put like 1500 miles on it. He was asking $8500 at the time and I got for what he had in it which was $6500. Whoever traded it in got shafted pretty good because it was in perfect condition at the time. It's still In pretty decent shape. It's got around 85k on it now but mostly highway miles. Had some guy see it in the driveway and stopped wanting to buy it. I said thanks but no thanks, the car is nearly irreplaceable. There are very few left out there in good condition and getting someone to part with one of those is tougher yet.

There is a pretty decent message/parts board out there. You'd be surprised how many people buy them to part out. It's thinning them out like crazy but for now it makes a surplus of parts. I've been pretty lucky so far not to need anything major. Of course since it's the identicle car to the mitsubishi starion I can get most parts at the mitsubishi dealer. That is as long as they still have them inventoried. Electronics are crazy spendy though.

When I am on my bike, I still leave around 6:00am or sometimes 6:30, depends on how much work I need to do. The fan went out in my truck, so I need to fix that b4 I drive it in traffic again. :(

I think I'm suffering R1 withdrawal, and it's only been since Sunday. Stuck driving the 3000 this week since I've been driving up to my dads everyday so far this week where my fzr is stored. Trying to get it ready for this weekend when I haul it down to sioux falls to finally get rid of it. Selling it to a buddy's coworker. How many miles are you guys typically getting out of your tires. I just put on a new set of d208zr's about a month ago and it's already 1/3-1/2 gone in the middle. So I ordered 2 more rear tires and another front monday :rock

So. . .today is my brother's birthday and last night when I got home from work 1:00am (he get's up for work at 4:00am) I left him a card with $50 in it from me and I got a small package and wrapped it up and put, "to Scott from Peanut and Chopper (our dogs)." Then what I did was take one of Choppers turds and tossed it in there. Holy crap was it funny! He woke me up laughing his ass off! Then he re-set the present and wrote a note for my Mom. It said, "Mom check out what the puppies bought me!" Then about 6:00am she woke me up laughing. It was a good time. :jump

hmm... i don't think i would refer to "stuck driving the 3000" as "suffering". make sure you have a decent tire pressure when riding on the freeway. must be a lot of long straight roads around the monticello area....

fjorn, try the metzeler sportec m1 if you want to try a different tire. might also help you to adjust tire pressure and suspension with those dunlops. and remember, warm the suckers up before you start leaning the bike over!! :)

well, if we ever get together in the near future, i'll help you set your suspension up if you like. actually changing the settings is really easy, having the right reason for your changes is tougher though.

I've decided to stick with a 180 since thats what was on there and worked pretty well. Been real happy with the d208zr's so far and can get them pretty reasonable off the web.

I've got BT010r on my bike. I really like them. I have had no problems at all. I have put about 2,000 miles on them & I figure about 50% tread left. I would get them again. If you want to stiffen up your suspension, Shawn, just come over. It would only take about a half an hour. You can ride my bike too & see if you like the way that I have it set up (I can't believe I just said that, I never let anyone ride my baby). :confused:

yeah, bt010 lasts longer than the average sportbike tire.

Kelley, you have the M1's on your bike? I really love my Toyota. I have 120k miles on it & it still runs like brand new. I have a little bit of rust starting to form on the very bottom of the doors, but I had it rust proofed by Toyota when I bought it & it is still under warrantee. I just contacted them & I will be getting it fixed soon.

I must have put around 400 miles on this weekend. Seems like my luck is still not real good. Last time I put a ton of miles on over the weekend my frame broke. That seems to be holding up nicely and now a new problem. This time my rear sprocket pretty much crapped out. :( It had an aluminum 44 tooth on there and looked great when I got the bike last fall but this weekend it aparently it finished wearing to the point of no return. I made a trip up to Denniskirk and picked up a new chain and sprocket kit with a chromoly front and steel rear sprocket. By the time I got to tearing it a apart saturday night I realized my 44 tooth sprocket is now a 23 tooth sprocket. Oops. :2bitchsla

A 23 tooth rear sprocket...WOW....My 998 is Front sprocket 15; Rear sprocket 36. Is there something I am missing about the rear being a 23 tooth? The reason I ask is a 2003 R1 has a 43/16 rear/front sprocket setup.

The reason is was a 23 tooth was because 21 of the 44 broke off. Wasn't pretty.

Hehe, I'd be scared of having the gear ratio of a 16" Huffy on the R1. That thing was wheely happy enough running a 44 tooth in the back. The chain/sprocket kit I put on saturday night had the stock 43 so now my speedometer should be reading accurately again. It rides much smoother and quieter now after ditching the worn sprockets and chain. I think that was the original chain and the bike is at 17,000 miles now.

mark- if you want to ride w/ the 394 super america schmucks, get there by 10pm on fri or sat. i've done it twice over the past 4 years and both times sucked for me. the people there aren't overly friendly as one should expect of a decent group ride. also, i don't know about you but i don't like testing my limits by going 100mph+ through 394/94 sat night traffic at 11pm with 20-40+ other idiots.

Besides the weather sucked and I got my 998 caught in some rain while out running errands. I know what the warm weather is like John...when we flew into Vegas it got up to 114 that day and was 105 the rest of the week we were down there. I guess the reason no one rides is because even with light gear or no gear it would be WAY TOO HOT. I did see one guy going down the Strip on a GSXR-750 (yellow/black) while we were leaving the hotel to goto the M&M store (4 floors of all M&M goodies) whoohoo, it was kinda neat though. I am working Saturday 7/12, Sunday 7/13, and Saturday 7/19 for people that are on vacation. I will probably take next Friday off completely so I would be up for a ride on the 18th of July if any of you guys want to ride for a little that evening weather providing of course...

No renting of bikes, cars, or anything. The Hilton is right next to my office building. I just walk. I have friends that drive down here too if I really need to go somewhere.

Shawn, I have a Kimber Custom .45, and it's one of the nicest .45's built for the money, more so than the COLT. Match grade barrel and trigger Enlarged firing pin stop locks the extractor in position for reliability. Slightly extended slide release buttons. Beveled magazine wells. Polished breech face for flawless feeding and extraction. My dad and I shot Combat pistol/practical pistol last year and it was an awesome learning experience. My dad has shot combat pistol since the early 70's as at least EXPERT class if not MASTER which I believe is beyond EXPERT classification...I can't recall exactly. I know for a fact he has gone up against and beat some of the best ATF, FBI, and other local law enforcement people in this region for alot of years back in the 70's and 80's. The trophy room he had back when we lived in North St. Paul was rediculous. He is very good to say the least. He taught me alot of common sense and practical skills on the range by ourselves. None of this junk you read about, but real situational stuff like someone trying to reach or work their way in close. MA doesn't stand a chance to a competent handgun shooter. The key is already MENTALLY preparing yourself ahead of time to make the decision to defend yourself and stop whomever is trying to put you or your family in harms way. Many people today go out and buy a gun, run a clip of ammunition through it and think they are completely prepared and know how to use it when the situation arises. WRONG.... Like anything in life including riding you have to keep practicing and sharpening your skills. It didn't take you 5 years for nothing to become a 2nd degree black belt...right? That took practice and dedication to keep learning and improving...the same goes for handguns or rifles for that matter. The problem today with local law enforcement is they are "College" smart or should i say dumbed down and not street smart. That's not how it was when my dad and several of his close friends were in law enforcement in Minnesota. The other problem today with most people and people in law enforcement is they select a lighter caliber pistol and focus on quantity and not the quality of there shooting. Today alot of local law enforcement uses a 9mm which has a greater capacity magazine but less stopping/shock power in the caliber. These new "officers" today are so mentally unprepared to get into a gunfight let alone lack proficiency to hit a target, so they commission them with a gun that can "SPRAY" instead of focusing on accuracy and hitting the target. Pathetic... Granted there are some people who naturally have the ability to handle a rifle or handgun. Not to be arrogant but I happen to consider myself one of these people because of just being around and watching my dad for so many years...it's always come naturally to me and I was proficient very quickly I feel. Anyway, look at the Kimber if you want a solid, well built, accurate handgun. And oh we should all go over to Armored fire someday. I can bring my Kimber .45, and Colt AR-15 along and you can try those out...it would be alot fun and not that expensive.

Shawn, going to the rifle range was a hoot, wasn't it? I loved that. Before my active duty stint was over, I got my 2nd award expert badge. I scored a 232/250. I also really liked the gas chamber. People thought that I was wierd, but I loved it when people would freak out & panic. :lol :lol :lol I also got a kick out of watching people get out of there with 3 feet of snot dripping from their face. :lol Good times, good times...
