R6 Untouchable 04-23-2003, 08:19 AM I'm getting an 03 R6 baby! Got a new quote after having been riding for over a year and my rates dropped from $3500 to $550 for minimum coverage insurance. Kai says Yamaha financing is low, so as soon as I get my job at best buy and build up a down payment I'll finance an 03! w00t!
Corny 04-23-2003, 08:24 AM Avoid working for Best Buy.
Employee from 1999 to 2000 - never again. I left CompUSA for Best Buy and realized that was a mistake and CompUSA sucked. :lol

Two things
1. Is the "Minimum Coverage" required by Yamaha or is that just liability?
2. I believe that Yamaha Factory Financing will require full coverage (Comp/Col) on anything financed over $4500. I remember thank came up when I traded my 02 in for an 03. I didn't need it b/c I only put like $1500 on my Yamaha Card. But then again, it's silly not to have it anyway.
Just my 2¢

chuck 04-23-2003, 08:28 AM you have to have full coverage when fincancing a bike
R6 Untouchable 04-23-2003, 08:31 AM ****. I guess I'll get one slightly used and get it a little later. Full coverage is still $2500
chuck 04-23-2003, 08:33 AM isnt kai the guy that was at seattle ducati? if so where is he at now?

That's not true. Some banks don't require it. M&T here in NY doesn't, but their rates are higher.
Yamaha Didn't b/c my ballance was under a specific amount. When I took delivery of my motorcycle, I did not have to provide a binder, just a valid insurance card. This was true for both my 2002 and 2003.
R6 Untouchable 04-23-2003, 08:37 AM Hm...so I don't need the full coverage if I get a bank to finance me...but the rates will be higher so I would want to make a higher down payment. I was looking on the yamaha site though and they never said a thing about insurance.
RGertner 04-23-2003, 08:41 AM Easy solution, ask your local dealer.
Also, if you purchase a new 2003 R6 (Hot Bike) and don't have at least Liability/Comp (no col) you are asking for trouble. Do a search for last summer on the # of R1's that were stolen in the WA area.
Trust me, there is nothing worse than having Liability Only and having a motorcycle stolen. Back in 1995 I purchased a Brand New CBR900RR. I picked it up in March and was going to put full coverage on the bike come June. Well, someone relieved me of the bike in May.
I sill owned the Bank 10K with took me 2 years to pay off.
R6 Untouchable 04-23-2003, 08:50 AM With a $1k deductible for liability/comp it will cost $900 per year, but I think it would be worth it. Last year the R6 was the #1 stolen bike. I guess theft would be a good thing to have.
Sucks about the CBR :( I spose ill get the liability/comp and ask my dealer if that's good enough. Maybe eastside will throw in some gear too...my helmet could be replaced.
R1minger 04-23-2003, 10:31 AM When I bought my R1 in 02', yamaha required no insurance if you financed under $10k
good luck Ryan :jump

the yamaha card acts just like a credit card. they do not care if you carry insurance on your bike. whether you crash it or it's stolen, you still owe the money. i work for a yamaha dealer. there is no such insurance requirement needed. (not a good idea to buy a bike without insurance though)
currently, yamaha has the 3.9% deal until jan 2005. (you must purchase before 5/31/2003) they also have some good fixed rates for 3, 4 and 5 yrs if you need to extend the payments. you could also use the 3.9% rate until jan 2005 then get a better rate from a bank. (the bank however comma will require insurance)

tidbit 04-23-2003, 10:48 AM Ryan if you need a good price on a 6.. I'll talk to a few guys I know.. I'd jump on the financing till 2005.. You'll def have a good finiacing deal come by your eyes before then :fact.. And hell.. You should have that baby paid fo by 2005 anyways..
tidbit 04-23-2003, 10:53 AM Man.. thoes financing options look so nice.. I might just have to pickup a matching r6 ;)

If it act like a credit card, why does Household Bank put a lien on your title? Why do they require a binder (Per conversations with Yamaha Directly)?
If I use my AMEX there is no lien. So that's not 100% accurate statement.
YZFR1Freak 04-23-2003, 10:59 AM Congrat's :D
RGertner 04-23-2003, 11:11 AM Yamajj: Forget that last post because I don't want to argue how the Yamaha Factory Financing through Household Bank works, I just wouldn't want Ryan to be in for a surprise, that's all.
Thanks,

Different Kai. He's now importing/exporting stuff on his own, now.
zorgen 04-23-2003, 01:16 PM Ryan,
You should go ahead with the job at Best Buy or some job, thats a great idea. I can understand someone giving you advice not to work there becauase of past experiences but the fact is this place is really close to home for you and even if its not the greatest place to work at least its a job. You might also try Larry's and Home Depot (maybe you already have). If I was you I'd get the job and start shopping for a good used bike, something with CHEAP insurance. Get a personal cash loan if need be (GET MOM TO SIGN IT!!) so you can keep away from needing total coverage as most banks need for a new bike.
My 2 cents
:hellobye
tidbit 04-23-2003, 01:30 PM Well... It does all come down to a simple fact.. Get the job first.. It'll take 3 months before anyone will even look at you for a loan.. No matter what the size it may be :fact
R6 Untouchable 04-23-2003, 02:45 PM Don, I'd consider around $600 pretty good for insurance. I am definitely in need of a new bike, and I'll want to work for the 3 months anyway to build up a down payment. larry's wont hire till 18 and home depot sucks. Best Buy pays 11 an hour, and I know people who work there and don't think it sucks...that's all opinion. I'm definitely gonna do this.

they haven't on anyone's i've known. it is a credit card, you have a minimum payment and interest. they want you to pay slow just like the rest. sorry if not everyone can get it without a lein, but i've never seen a lien on any of the ones i've seen. what did you buy? it might have something to do with the bike, your credit limit or the way they were holding their tongue when they processed your order. (don't know) i do know yamaha or household retail service uses a beacon score to rate credit and it is pretty tough to get it.

not going to forget it. i'm also not going to argue about it. i would add to anyone buying with the yamaha card, to verify every little detail before signing on the dotted line. because of your post, i will ask about this when i'm in the shop saturday. it might possibly be a "state" issue as well. another thing to remember about retail service, they post their payments slower than they should, so you need to mail your payment about 10 days before it's due.:fact

Corny 04-24-2003, 12:16 PM I have a loan with liability only insurance. My title has a lien holder.
Tubbed S-10 04-24-2003, 12:22 PM Here anything on the Yamaha CC under $10,000 does not require full coverage.:rock

Not so sure about that state issue. My 2002 R1 was purchased and registered in NY. The ballence was very low, < $3K (just the difference on Trade-In and Tax, Title, etc) HouseHold Bank was a Leinholder on my title. I payed if off in 5 months and closed the account.
Now I just purchased a 2003 R1, I reapplied for an account. The motorcycle was purchased and registered in CT. Again, a very low ballance. And HouseHold Bank is again a lienholder on my title.
Now when I was in CT, they did ask my for a Binder for proof of full coverage.
Thanks,
Ray
RGertner 04-24-2003, 01:09 PM forgot to add, that they didn't end up needing the binder b/c of the low ballance on the account. But it was stated that over X of a ballance, they do require full.
