Every two weeks new tires, WTF? That must cost you major $$$$. Bad roads, burn outs, wheelies, stoppies, frequent track days. What kind of riding do you do most during those 700 miles. What part of tire is wearing out, edges or middle. What do you consider wore out? Just trying to get us all on the same page to help you.

y2kyzf i have a pilot sport hpx on the back of the bike at the moment im not a keen fan of wheelies, stoppies and burn outs as tires cost too much here. good fun when its not ur bike !!! (pilot sport hpx's = €370) i was talking to a friend about the problem and he told me to try older metzler mez3's as they are a harder compound so i might get a set of those.where i living the roads are ok not many straights which is good. i dont really drive the bike on any more as a rule i try to stick below 120mph just to see if it made any difference i was told it was to do with my bike. i bought the r1 in 2001 it an x race bike theres a lot of work done to it ,blue printed engine ,full micron system,qb carbon ram air, factory cdi unit just to list a few of the things done. the bike is knocking out 168bhp. i got talking to some of the racers last year at the isle of man tt about the problem they said that the bike could be too light and the tyres might not be getting the grip they need i find that a bit strange because the bike is great in the wet and if i did not have good traction the tyres would be spinning in the wet

I thought I was doing bad, I only got 1850 miles out of the oem 208's. What kind of mileage are you getting from Michelin pilots, anyone? I replaced the rear 208 with the off the shelf model, does not feel as confidence inspiring as the orig. So is 2000 miles about all I can expect from any of the sticky tires? Input appreciated, Thanks.

At the risk of being shot down in flames I'm going to recommend a Pirelli Dragon GTS rear (yeah it's a sports/touring tyre). It may not have the ultimate level of grip some other tyres have but it will still let you scrape your pegs on the road. It heats up quickly and when it slides it does so fairly predictably. Don't use it like it's a race tyre and you'll be fine. This tyre will go about 7000-10000km on the rear. So far it's outlasted two Dunlop 208s on a friends Fireblade (doing the same mileage). I am using it in combination with an Evo (non corsa) on the front.

if i only got 700 miles out of tires i would trade in that bike man. thats unheard of. i have friends who get 4-5 thousand out of pilot sports.

That is crazy to get that kinda mileage out of a tire like that..... I've got 2000 miles on my Pirelli Supercorsas, and they look almost brand new. No signs of uneven wear or flat spots, and no rounded off tread cuts either. I've been pushing them very hard too. You might want to check the air pressure in your tires. That'll kill a tire real quick. What kinda pavement conditions are the roads there.... a coarse road or an oil packed gravel road also tears up tires! You should find out the problem asap!!
