: Thought I'd say what's up...
R1_Demon 04-28-2003, 10:12 PM Hey there all...
Just thought I'd say what's up to everyone. I hope this is where I would post it. Just bought a brand new 2002 R1 two weeks ago and I heard this is the site to check out, so here I am.
I live in Orange County in California and maybe have ridden past some of you if you're up or down this way.
Just thought I'd see what's up. Hope to chat/ride with everyone sometime soon. :hellobye

R1_Demon 04-29-2003, 02:55 PM Hey there,
Well, I'm working on my bike right now. I was on a charity ride on this past Sunday and one of the guys in my club went down in front of me and, unfortunately, took me down too. :(
So, now I'm working on getting estimates for getting my brand new bike fixed. I've only had the bike 2 weeks today. It's a brand new 2002 off the floor.
Hopefully things will work out where the guy pays for the bike to be fixed. We'll see how it goes I guess. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time! :2bitchsla
Benztek 04-29-2003, 06:19 PM oh man that sux bro. I am new to this site but have had my bike for almost a year in a half. bought in colorado and then moved to cali this past fall. good luck with the bike, later

Welcome!!
R1Fanatic 04-29-2003, 06:34 PM Sucks that you went down, but at least you are ok and the bike isn't totalled. You have come to the right place, and prepare to be addicted!
Welcome :hellobye
LooneyR1 04-29-2003, 06:35 PM Hola!!!!:beer
R1_Demon 04-29-2003, 09:45 PM Ya, pretty much sucks.
I was getting estimates today and they are insane. The upper fairing is like $270. The gas tank is $564. The exhaust slip-on is like $870. It's crazy. Admittedly those are all factory Yamaha parts. I'm sure I'll have him purchase the fairing and an aftermarket can of my choice...that will take care of the majority of the problems on the bike.
I admit I got off light considering, but still. It's a brand new bike and got messed up. Only problem is, I'm afraid that when I ask him to pay for the parts on my bike, he'll say no or only pay 1/2 or something. What recourse do I have to get him to pay the full amount? Probably none and that's what I'm deathly afraid of.
All of this is being done outside of the insurance agencies...per his request I was being cool and doing it that way.
I have a bad feeling I'm going to get hosed on this situation. :(
R1_Demon 05-01-2003, 02:48 PM Well...
Just thought I'd let ya all know that I guess we're going through the insurance agents on our bikes anyway. :( I found out last night his is being done by his insurance adn now I'm trying to get the info to claim mine on his insurance as well (on his claim). If all goes well, my bike will be fixed back to it's "brand new" condition and won't cost me anything (as it shouldn't considering I didn't do anything wrong. :( )
So, hopefully everything goes well. If not, I have to claim it on my insurance and try to get the deductible. UGGGGHHH.. :( I just can pray it goes right.
mach5er 05-01-2003, 03:03 PM Did you get a good discount on your 2002? How much $$$?
Ronin R1 05-01-2003, 03:03 PM That sux, let me know if there is anything we can do to help.
R1_Demon 05-01-2003, 03:45 PM Mach5er,
I got a pretty damn good deal. Ended up paying $9400 out the door for the bike. :D Only 6 test miles on it...WOOOHOOOO.
Ronin,
Thanks, I really appreciate it. Well hopefully what will happen is his insurance will take my claim. I'm going to take it to my local Yamaha dealer and let them quote on how much it's going to cost to replace everything and fix the bike.
Then I'm going to ask them for a cash out and have them send me the money. Then I'm going to replace the parts myself and go from there. Will just make it easier instead of Yamaha having my bike for a week or longer while the parts are being ordered to be put back on. I just want the bike back to "new" status. Plus, I'll be able to replace my helmet and jacket that got rashed up on the crash too. (Helmet being the most important, obviously)
So, if we have some hookups or discounts on parts, that would be REALLY nice. :) I'm new here, so not sure if we do have discounts or what.
mach5er 05-02-2003, 05:43 AM Thats my favorite color scheme of all time. Beautiful!!!
R1_Demon 05-03-2003, 09:13 PM The red/white/black scheme? Ya, it's really grown on me since I've bought the bike. Originally I was for the blue/white, but that's because I've raced Yamaha YZ & YZ-F motocross (MX) bikes for so long and love the color scheme.
So, it was hard for me to get the red/white/black one...but now I really love it and haven't seen another one (well, other than on the site, but that doesn't count!) in my area or riding around.
On another note...the insurance adjuster came to look at my bike today and yesterday I went to the dealer to find out how much the bike was going to be to repair it...ugggghhh...for the repair of my bike, helmet and jacket it's over $3K. I can't believe it for a 10 mph crash. :( Well, what can I do, ya know? Just wait and make sure they are payin' for it.
mxracer95 05-06-2003, 03:09 PM Hey Demon. Welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear about your bike. I'm sure it all will be taken care of and you'll be back on the throttle soon enough. I had my '02 R1 stolen at 3 weeks old, so I know how you feel!
What part of OC are you in? I'm in Buena Park. Do you go to any bike nights? You should check out www.sfvbikenight.com it's kinda far, but it's the best bikenight in SoCal. Do you still ride MX? I used to race, took a 3 year break, and I'm planning to get back into it this summer.
Once again, welcome! :hellobye
R1_Demon 05-06-2003, 07:45 PM Hey there MXRacer....
Ya, I used to race MX too, but ended up selling all my toys (including my MX bike) to buy my R1. However, I'll bet by the end of this year I won't be able to handle it and will end up buying another MX bike to satisfy the "urge for the dirt". Hehehehe...
I just figured I'd stick to the street for a little bit and take a break from dirt.
I'm in Mission Viejo actually...not too far. I've heard that the SFV bike night is awesome. Usually I cruise up to Bravo Burger (in Huntington Beach I think - it's off of Beach Blvd.) on Wednesday night or Cerritos bike night on Friday nights with my club I'm in (Sick & Twisted - www.sickntwisted.org). We are looking to start a bike night on Thursday nights for our club (well, and anyone else that wants to drop by), but we're still working on that. Might end up being at "The Hat" near the 57 and Imperial (I have no clue what/where that is, but that's what they told me. LOL).
Maybe some night we can cruise up to the SFV bike night. I wouldn't mind seeing it. Sounds like it's pretty cool.
As for my bike, I talked to the other guy's insurance agent today. I think they are trying to get me to take part liability of what happened. I'm NOT happy about that cuz it was totally NOT my fault at all...however, I'll see what i can do about that. They are going to get back to me later this week or early next week. I just want them to give me a check for my bike repairs and be done with it. I hate this crap!
Thanks for the welcome though! :hellobye
mxracer95 05-06-2003, 08:25 PM I usually go to Cerritos. I'll probably see ya there.
The insurance company might make you part at fault because you were "following too close." You should leave enough room between you and the vehicle in front of you... blah blah blah. But, if they were to make you 50% at fault, your insurance rates won't be affected (you have to be at least 51% at fault for insurance to charge you with the accident) and since you'll be doing most or all the work, and 1/2 the estimate of repair was probably labor, so you should come out about even.
I hope you at least have the parts on order in case anything is backordered. And it can take insurance companies as long as 30 days to cut a check. But call them every couple days and keep nagging them. The claims adjuster will want to get you your check right away so you'll stop calling. :D
R1_Demon 05-06-2003, 08:33 PM Yup, I hear ya...
But believe it or not, out of the $3K bill, only $136 is labor!!!! Only 2 hrs worth...the rest is allllll parts. :( Mainly it's all cosmetic damage and such.
However, I was told by the adjuster that if they pay me or whatever, that they want to take the old parts with them. Kinda odd. I guess so I don't keep them and sell them is my guess, but that's totally weird. Never heard of that before.
Anyway, I know it'll take 1 week to get my parts, but I'll tell ya this...they are NOT taking my old parts (bike is still totally ridable, just looks a bit rashed) until my new ones come in. No way am I taking the parts off and giving them to these guys and have my bike sit a week to two weeks waiting for the parts so I can put them on and ride...I think not. hehehehe...
I'll try and make it up to Cerritos this Friday. I've only been there once and I don't think our guys go up there very often at all. However, if you see a red/white/black R1 with a dinged up factory pipe and a "Sick & Twisted" logo on the windscreen, that's me. Usually I don't park by everyone if I don't know anyone there...but will usually hang out around my bike..even if it is further away from everyone. Maybe I'll try and get there early (last time I was late and no where to park) and this way people would have to park around me. LOL
Cya later...
