Norb2k1 05-02-2003, 10:15 PM wow what an experience, only one thing sucks, i'm HOOKED..:jump .
oh well anywyas, it was drag nite and friends asked me to go, i said whatever. since it was around 50 miles away i told them if i go, i'm runnin the one...
time comes, first lineup, damn neat shit goin on at the track.. lol
we didnt get timeslips since it was a special event, but times were as follows
first run was 10.91 at 134 mph
second run was 10.92 at 138 mph
third run was 10.92 at 137 mph
what sucked was the dew started moistening the track and i lost more and more traction with the runs the later it got, kinda sucks, but there's always a next time :rock
thought i'd share.
dr.r1 05-02-2003, 10:26 PM Nice!:thumbup
txs r-6 05-05-2003, 09:23 AM thats cool i understand i just did my first competition.even though i lost the first round against a buel.thats because i poped it up off the line and then spun and still was 2 seconds behind
Amazing how fun it is ain't it? You did good, it is hard to get into the tens.
Maxxym 05-07-2003, 07:15 PM damn thats some good times for your first time. I went my very first time on 1/4 last season and got hooked... I still suck though.. I can't get out of 11s!!!!!
hershell 05-07-2003, 07:27 PM i thought you ment you draged your knees.
Norb2k1 05-08-2003, 06:12 AM hehehe, no i mean drag racing, dragging knees is nothing new to me :-P, lol but i still think carving around turns is more fun
beaulauber 05-09-2003, 12:59 PM those are some very goog times for the first time out. Have you dynoed your bike? i am curious to see what kind of power your putting down...
because with those mph's you should be dippin below 10.5 if you can keep the front down.
Norb2k1 05-09-2003, 03:29 PM yes my bike has been dyno'd a few weeks ago. the power to the wheel was 139.2 which i guess isnt that bad for a 01 with 13k miles.
and you think i really could go that low with the MPH's i'm getting so far? i'm having traction issues within the first 150' or so.. is there anything i can do about that? i'm running stock tire pressure, should i lower some?
beaulauber 05-09-2003, 06:23 PM 139 is good.... yes... you should be able to run those times. And if your having traction problems.... You could try a couple of things...
heat your tire up more... if you aren't allready.
and lower the tire preasure for a bigger foot print. but after it does hook the first 150 feet youll probably be fighting the wheel to stay down. Just start out lowering it 10 psi from where it is now. And go down to around 20 psi if you still can't get it to hook. But wheelieing is a whole nother problem you might introduce.
let us know if you improve...
oh and it would help if you knew your 60 foot times... i know you didnt get time slips but they really help in telling you where your messing up... a 1.7 - 1.8 is a decent 60 foot time on stock suspension settings.
Norb2k1 05-09-2003, 07:00 PM do 60 foot times for 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile tracks mean the same? i just ran the 1/8 mile thast closer to my house the other day and i did 3 runs and the 60 foot times were at just over 1.9 :(.
my Reaction times are pretty decent i guess at .530 and .580 for most runs.
i really need to work on the launch/first couple feet weight transfer to keep the front down hasnt been a problem, but it may become one when i start getting the rear tire to stick all the way trough.
oh yeah also.. how long does it take for a tire to heat up during a burnout?
beaulauber 05-09-2003, 07:08 PM yeah 60 foot times will be the same for both 1/8 and 1/4 mile.... 1.9's are decent.... they say for every 1/10th you pick up in the 60'foot you pick up 2/10's at the 1/4 mile.
And the reaction times don't factor in if your just doing it for fun... now if your racing in a bracket then they def. will matter. but if your just doing it on a grunge/ test and tune night then i wouldn't concentrate as much on the reaction time as i would on the first couple gears..... basically your time is decided in the first 1/16th mile... the rest is just cruising and shifting clean...:D....
once you get it to hook up... if you start to have wheelie problems buy a front end strap. it will lower the front of the bike to help stop wheelies.
Norb2k1 05-09-2003, 07:38 PM hmmm front end straps... seen a bunch of guys down at the track with them... will they do anything if i have the stock swingarm/rideheight in the rear?
beaulauber 05-09-2003, 07:46 PM i will find out next thursday... i usually lower the rear on my zx12... but i am going to run the rear at stock height and give them a try...
Norb2k1 05-09-2003, 08:05 PM where can i get a strap at? how much? hor hard to install? lol sorry for the many q's
FastazzR1 05-09-2003, 08:39 PM You can get one from schnitz racing.

You'll want to lower the back and strap the front!
FastazzR1 05-19-2003, 10:59 PM On an R1, how much does it really do by straping the front being that its so lite in the front anyway
RATED_XXX 05-19-2003, 11:19 PM Here is my time slip from this past weekend! I am #1513 in the right lane and my buddies GSXR1000 is #1512 in the left lane.
I have a Silver 02 with a MIG dual can slip-on, strapped front and lowered rear! No other mods and no remapping. Never dragged the bike with the stock exhaust. I could be losing HP with the slip-on. Need to have her dynoed with stock vs slip-on.
I just cant get anymore MPH's out of her.
Any suggestions would be helpful to get some more MPH's.
