What RPM do you guys find gets you the best 1/4 mile time.
I normally start slipping the clutch around 6k and TRY to keep the front tire 2 - 3 inches off the ground until I can can let it out all the way.
Also is it any faster to short shift 1 gear so you can stary full throttle through 2nd? I find that if I take 1st all the way to redline it wants to loop reaaally bad and I have to get off the gas a little.
Anyhow, now that I am 1 tooth less in the front I think this issue may be intensified and wondering the best way to manage the extra power.
Does lowering/strapping the front effect handeling much?
thanks
for any reply

What ever keep the rev's up during take off. You have to drag the shit out of the clutch. Finding that mid " sweet " Point during the start. Dirt bike starts they say them guys drag the clutch during the frist 3 gears...

I guess I did not consider that option...is that how poeple on R1's drag race them - slip the clutch in 2nd?
also what RPM does the best? could I do better if I start highter than 6k and slip more? As someone recently named it all I have is the ass dyno and I have no numbers to back up what I am feeling - so if you drag race and have different runs for different launch RPMs post um up!

STRAP THE FRONT
it is a major big deal
helps out a ton
i slip mine from 6000 to like 8000 and hammer it in first
most of the time it will stay down unless it hooks real hard
good luck

If you can control your bike then trying leaving the line around 7000 or so. If not then the easier way is to leave around 3500 slip the clutch and wack the throttle. I have found that short shifting first will keep the front end down more & will give you quicker times. If you want to do it the correct way you are going to burn clutches.

Those are awesome times your runnin on your 02. my dream is to one day run in the 9's. I should have kept my 12 for that..hahaha.... but now i am stuck trying to get this R1 down in em'
Do you have your 02 1 strapped and lowered? just curious. I strapped and lowered my zx12. I am thinking of just strapping the R1 to see what kind of difference it makes. I need to get back to the track like right now.

I dont drag race but ive had a few races on closed roads, i can slip the clutch anywere between 5000 and 8000 rpm and get a good launch, but i have gone 1 down in the front too and now i find it hard to keep the front wheel down in 2nd in the highter revs. Im installing my ram air box soon so it will be even harder. But as they say practice makes perfect.

It's a tie down that people use to lower the front of thier bike on the track. Hope that helps I have one and I'll try to put a pic up tommorrow.
