hondasaurus 05-05-2003, 03:19 PM As an FYI:
Invoice on Silver, Red, and Blue is $8800. I bought my 03 silver for $10K out the door.
Invoice on R6 is $6800.
I think you can add $200 to each model for the black with flames.
I hope this will help out on your buying needs.
lsvtec 05-06-2003, 11:45 PM I bought my '03 R1 black/red flames for $10,400 out the door.

hondasaurus 05-21-2003, 01:20 PM Your welcome. The out the door prices should be somewhat different to acommodate the local taxes. I'm in CA, the local tax here is 7.75%
BrianC 05-21-2003, 09:11 PM I just bought my first R1 yesterday and I got it for $9800 out the door. Oh btw it's black with flames. :))
MCWrench 06-11-2003, 07:08 PM I got a blue 03 R1 for 9250 out the door!!!
R-Uno 06-11-2003, 07:19 PM I bought my 01 R1 for 11k o.t.d. I bought my 02 R1 for 10k out the door. The difference between 2 states.
r1elkins 07-06-2003, 02:02 AM question...lets say i buy an r1 at Lemans in IL for $9750.00 otd. will i have to pay taxes on the r1 when i register it in CO? it would suck to go to another state, buy a bike for 9700 otd, including IL state tax, then take it back to CO and pay taxes on it again. another question...what about states that don't pay sales tax. ie NV. any info would be nice, cause in CO, your not going to find a dealer that will sell it for any less than 10.5 otd. maybe its just been my luck, but whenever i would make them an offer, they would just laugh. thanks, elk

you don't need to pay IL sales tax if you are planning on registering it in CO.. just buy the bike bring it back and pay the tax when you register the bike in your state..

copterdoctor64 07-11-2003, 06:21 PM 2003 Black w/ Flames R1 $9400 O.T.D.
EvotuneR1 07-15-2003, 11:27 AM Hey Copterdoctor where did you get that deal. I saw some deals that say its 8600 but then you add everything otd will be around 9300. So are the dealer selling the bikes bellow invoice or are the numbers you gave(hondasaurus) incorrect. By the way i saw more than a couple places offering it for 8600.
Thanks
Vincent Chan
EvotuneR1 07-15-2003, 11:27 AM Oh and the model that i was looking at was the 2003 black with red flames.
Thanks

GodSpeed 07-15-2003, 09:03 PM I just bought my new 03 R1 Out the door price was 8599.00
hondasaurus 07-16-2003, 09:17 AM The invoice price was what I saw on the computer at the dealersip. I went to 3 dealerships to negotiate a price. Only one was willing to take a $350 profit. The other two would not sell the bike for $8800 +$350. So $9150 + Tax + Registration Fees =$10,000 out the door. (10-11% of final price is usually the tax and registration fees for all vehicles in california)
I live in southern california. The weather is always nice to ride for almost all the seasons. Therefore, it's very difficult to get any bikes below or close to invoice.
It could be that other dealerships outside of California can purchase the bikes from Yamaha at a discounted price.
My coworker has an 03 R6. His out the door price was $9000.
If you can get it for less, that's always a benefit. This thread is intended to help everyone seek a better buying position for this great product.
EvotuneR1 07-18-2003, 09:33 AM Thanks Hondasaurus i know you were only trying to help. But damn some dealers must be getting the short end of the stick either that or the dealers invoice is FAKE!!!! Anyways hey Godspeed where did you get that deal????
Thanks

Road Relish 07-18-2003, 09:51 AM 10K out the door with gear (Helmet, gloves)
hondasaurus 07-18-2003, 09:59 AM Vincent,
You should do a search on www.cycletrader.com for 03 R1. You'll see the slight differences in prices from state to state. Likewise, you'll also see others selling used 03 R1s for around $8.5-9K.
I honestly don't believe the Invoice price is fake (for california that is). The market prices varies from state to state as I indicated earlier.
You might, for example, buy the bike in MA for a reasonably good discount. Then have it delivered and registered in Jacksonville. The end result: extra waiting time for the bike and extra cost for the delivery.
You also need to be aware that some dealers will give you a low price and have you finance the bike. This is where the dealer make up the difference. The financing helps by subsidizing the finance charges into the actual profit margin.
In either case, best of luck to you. The R1 is an awesome bike, no doubt.
PDo90065 07-18-2003, 10:10 AM Living in SoCal is nice cause it rains like once, maybe twice a year. And during the coldest months I'm still out-n-about in shorts. So you can pretty much ride year-round. But buying here is a total rip-off. Most local dealers in the LA area sold out of R6s months ago. People were buying them as quickly as the dealers got them. Unfortunately people were also paying like 9k-9.5k OTD.
When I bought my R1 I hit every dealership in a 50-mile radius - in LA that's alot of dealership. But nobody would give it to me for under 10k. I finally did get it for a little under 10k OTD but that's cause we bought 3 bikes at the same time from them. (Brother and co-worker)
EvotuneR1 07-21-2003, 09:51 AM Thanks hondasaurus i wasnt trying to imply anything when i said the price was wrong. But anyways hey GODSPEED CAN YOU PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THAT PRICE AT.
Thanks
Vincent Chan
chasjR1 07-22-2003, 06:56 PM O.k., here are the straight facts! His prices are a little high..by a few hundred at least! Yammy's are @ 17% profit and Honda is @ 15%. Don't ask me how I know, but I do..for sure!
Don't pay a bunch in setup and freight! It may cost a dealer $100-$150 for freight..that is it! Setup is nothing! A R1 comes ready to go basically..front wheel is on now! Paying some kid $7/hr. and charging you $250 makes owner laugh all the way to the bank! Get a real dealer..even if you have to drive!
The black bikes are cool, but blue is the color of my heart!
later dudes!

Motor Vehicle Registration
Florida's 6 percent use tax applies to and is due on motor vehicles brought into this State within 6 months from the date of purchase. Use tax does not apply if a like tax equal to or greater than 6 percent has been lawfully imposed and paid to another state or District of Columbia.
It is presumed that a motor vehicle used in another state, territory of the United States, or District of Columbia for 6 months or longer before being brought into Florida was not purchased for use in Florida. To qualify for exemption from use tax, you must provide documents to prove that the vehicle was used outside Florida for 6 months or longer.
The full amount of use tax (6 percent) applies and is due on any motor vehicle imported from a foreign country into Florida. It does not matter if the motor vehicle was used in another country for a period of 6 months or more prior to the time it is brought into Florida. Furthermore, Florida does not recognize tax paid to another country when calculating the tax due. The tax is calculated on the value of the vehicle at the time it is brought into Florida, not on the original purchase price.
For information on registration costs, regulations, driver licenses and minimum liability insurance coverage requirements, contact the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Visit their Internet site or call 850-922-9000.
Payment of tax due on motor vehicle registrations and the purchase of Florida license tags may be handled at the local county tax collector's office.

floneclipse 09-10-2003, 02:03 PM my first time here and i need some advice on getting an 03r1 or 03gsxr1k. i was also looking at cbr600rr or 03zx6r. i have raced at loudon on a 600 so i'm pretty sure i can handle the power. if i don't get any of these bikes than i will get 04 cbr1000. there are good discounts on 03's so that is motivating me to get a bike in fall instead of waiting till spring but i'm concerned about how much time i will have until it gets too cold or starts snowing in boston. please help with any suggestions.
battlehatch 09-10-2003, 02:16 PM I love this... I work at a dealer and it doesn't matter if you know what dealer invoice is, a dealer wont sell you one for that unless you are friends with them or something. Why would a dealer want to pay flooring on something that he isn't going to make money on? Unless you wanna buy a bike that been sitting all year and hasn't sold. I understand that you guys all wanna get the best deal but you have to remember that dealers have to make money too. I had one customer come in and he had all his stuff just figured the f**k out. He had dealer invoice and all the cost that he figured into it plus a little bit for me, like $20 or something. anyway, it turns out it was about $400 over dealer cost out the door and that's the only price he would buy at... It might have even been a consideration if it was a dirtbike or something like that, but this guy wanted a brand new R6! I told the guy good luck and if he can find more than one that they'll sell at that price, to call me because i want to buy a few too.
I guess what I'm tryin to say is that don't hate on a dealer because they pay invoice. You have to take into account that the dealer has payroll, lease, flooring, all kinds of stuff to pay so profit on these bike isn't very high, otherwise I'd be making a ton of money. What is a good deal anyway? A cheap price? Sure you can find some dealer that'll lowball the hell out of the bike but what about later on down the line? customer service? to me, thats what a good deal is, a dealer that takes care of you after the fact. So go shop around but don't get upset if you don't get the invoice pricing... people gotta eat too ya know...
forza 10-04-2003, 02:01 PM I worked in M/C dealers that deal in only Japanese bikes all my working life (16-30 years old) started in sales and saved my soul from the devil by moving on to be a Tech. Yeah, no one likes a 'grinder', but when it comes to a customer who's got his facts together and wants a smoking deal- Good for him! What does he care about the dealers flooring cost. He wants his bike...and at a great price! I live here in the Los Angeles area and I can tell you at all the different dealers and shops I worked at EVERY SINGLE sales person I came across was a low-life snake weasel looser, scum with no regard for others safety, life and for sure don't "take care of customers". The only way a sales person remembered a customer is if he reamed the hell out of that particular customer and made a lot of money off him/her. For example, I never once heard a sales person advise the potential customer to shy away from the R1Gsxr954BusaZx12 as his first bike and lean the buyer towards a 600 or used smaller starter bike. I've heard them tell customers that the competitions model is "slower" does not "handle" as well "less reliable" you name it, I heard the BS come out of their mouths. The best is when they would tell the customer, "Yeah, that's the one I got, I've ridden brand X's bike and this one is the best. That's why I bought one myself." and he did not even have a streetbike! The closest thing he had was a YZ 250 (dirtbike). You gotta love that Sales person honesty!
In the end, I'm sure that there is a handful of decent minded sales people out there, just like how Man bites Dog once in a while. But for the MOST part, grind and get the best deal possible, because sales people care about you greatly...until you drive that new, expensive bike off the lot. Count to ten and they will have forgotten your face, name and all that :bs chit chat they engaged in with you. Afterwards, as long as you are not an idiot, the only people who will care about you are the guys and gals of the Service department. As a matter of fact, you should nicely ask the Tech's. or Service Manager questions related to a bike instead of a Sales person. Sales people don't know shit about bikes!:dunno
Don't even get me started on the dim witted schmucks in the parts department!
CBRADGO 10-09-2003, 12:31 PM $9100 OTD, Lake Hill Motors, Corinth, MS...THE only dealership to buy from IMO. Buy cheap, ship cheap, 100% professional & courteous. Kirk was my salesman, but any of them will be more than happy to hook you up. Give 'em a shout for the '04 One...
www.lakehillmotors.com or 800-569-6205
MikeBks 11-13-2003, 08:10 PM 2003 Blue and white R1 $9000 OTD, Yamaha of Stillwater, OK. Dealers also get money back for selling each bike throughout the year. This is not reported in the dealers invoice, by the way Automobile dealerships do the same. The best way to calculate a good deal is to get a NADA pricing guide, add up the three different prices on last years model and take the average. If a year model has changed drastically you may have to wait till september before these numbers are available. With the money you save you can do upgrades and tuning during the winter and be ready for next years riding season. Just a suggestion.
Mark618 12-08-2003, 01:01 PM Hondasaurus,
Thanks for the Invoice. Wish I'd seen this before I bought. It would have spared me some guessing.
Does your invoice price factory in the Yamaha dealer incentive, which, I was told, was first $200, then lowered to $100?
I bought an '03 R1 in November 2003. The lowest price I heard was $9700 OTD from Yamaha Aprilia in Marina del Rey. But I felt those guys were assholes.
So, I went to Hollywood Motorcycles. First, I talked to a salesman named Eric (Bracken?). An asshole, albeit a perfect one. He insulted me and threw me out of the dealership. But I didn't take it personally. He was just trying to bluff me into a price. But, hey, I'm not some 16 year old kid.
After Yamaha Aprilia, I decided to give Hollywood Motorcycles another try, because I heard the owner Jack Shen was a reasonable man. He is. He's a real enthusiast. Anyway, I called him up and told him about the fiasco with Eric, and Jack cut me a deal of $9782 (this is approx., I'm not at home to check the figure, but it was within $10 of this figure) over the phone. I said I'd be in there two days later.
Well, I go in two days later and he's having my bike prepped! Just like that! I was a little taken aback. I figured he'd want to see some money first. But no.
I didn't get the lowest quoated figure in L.A., but I got a figure I could live with, and I didn't have to talk to idiots to do it.
Best,
Mark
P.S. In case you are wondering, when I say OTD I mean OT ****in' D, not a cent more for anything.
