i know this is dead boring but.........i had no trouble getting my knee down on my 99 fireblade but now on my new 2001 r1 i just cant do it?? ok i got a new one piece and its a little tight but its more then that im sure. i have about 1/4 inch left of unused tyre so im over enough, maybe im not hanging off the same im not sure. it feels a little uncomfortable as well.the blade felt like i was inside it like a well worn glove, the r1 feels like im on top right upfront,im well happy with it but just wondering why it aint happening anymore? :cryin

I had the same with the thunderace. I think the R1 has a lower center of gravity and hence, you can carry faster corner speed with less physical lean having said that, the pegs are higher too. I tak it you have long legs and your shin is long too? One fo the guys can only just touch his knee down before the pegs are on the floor!!

My mistake, I should rephrase my original post to say that most people aren't hanging off far enough... you, on the other hand, need rearsets. Why are you so wide in the corner? You're going to run out of tire very soon at that rate. Have you removed your curb feelers? I pulled mine off, and I can feel my toes sliding, but I've only just touched down my actual peg once (someone changed lines in front of me, causing me to have to dive harder into the corner).

It's called the "Omega", and it is best taken as a triple apex. You run it up pretty wide up the hill after 4a, then tip it in and clip the apex at 4b, then run it out wide again and hit the apex at 4c. He is between 4a and 4b in the picture and track position looks about right.

There really is no big deal to this. A lot of the time there's absolutely no need for it even on the track. The most common mistake I see is riders sitting upright while trying to hang off. You need to make a concerted effort to keep the body low on the bike with the head down by the side of the tank looking through the space where the fairing and mirror would meet. As soon as you try sitting up you pull the body out of position. Go out and try cornering with your head position changed.

What helped me drag my knee was by reading the book Sport Riding Techniques. He tells you to "kiss the mirror" I always keep this in mind when at the track. Of course, the mirrors aren't on the bike then, but you know where they should be. By doing this it will keep your body low and force you to lean off the bike. Just try it and see if it helps. I've seen so many riders trying to lean with their heads cocked up in the opposite direction. Their body is trying to lean, but they have their head going the other way. Hold the bike smooth while going through the apex. Always look ahead and through the turn. It will come with time.

Originally posted by reckless hum what do you think of this pix am I hanging off enough?? You have your butt far enough off, but like others have said your upper body is way to upright. Notice how high your head is, and the fact that it is almost on the centerline of the bike rather than off to the inside like your ass is. With your upper body high like that, a very bad side effect is too much weight on your hands too which gives you much less control. Get your upper body down on the tank, and your head off to the inside and as low as possible. Then the weight will be laid on the bike and off of your hands. The rest will folllow...
