1/4 Mile Times on 02 R1

Finally got the 02 back together and thought I would take her to the strip! This time slip is from a lowered and strapped 02 R1 with a MIG dual can exhaust. I think I might need to get me a PCIIR and remap the bike! This was my best out of five runs. We got rained on. My bike was number 1513 and my buddies GSXR 1000 was 1512. His bike was lowered with Yosh EMS, cams and exhaust. He still isn't touching me! He's taking me on MPH's though. So there has to be more power coming out of his bike. I just have better 60' times. But this run was my slowest MPH. I am on the border line of shifting from 3rd to 4th gear at the end. This run I left her in 3rd gear and hit the rev limiter towards the end.

Should I just adjust the sprocket teeth to get more out of her or start performance modding! I need to get the bike on a dyno with the factory vs aftermarket exhuast and then go from there!

good stuff man! what times did your friend on the 1000 run? I look forward to hitting up the track soon... by the way, i'm looking into buying the texalium (i think its called that) Mig Highmount as well...how do they sound in the high revs? are they loud enough? I've heard them, but never at higher revs when the "true" sound comes out :)

His bike is on this time slip! I was number 1513 in the right lane and he was number 1512 in the left lane. I need more MPH's!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah! Buts its only a 1/2 sec faster than my 1999 R6 that is lowered and strapped with a slip on exhaust. I know I can get her down even lower than than. Just takes practice!

To the original poster of the timeslip...how much do you weigh and how did you lower the rear and what tire?

RATED_XXX
05-12-2003, 02:36 PM
My weight is 160 lbs. The rear is lowered by a Speedlink from McCoy Motorsports www.tobefast.com. The front is strapped down with a Schnitz strap. My next thing to adjust is the rear tire pressure and maybe the rear suspension. Don't really know alot about suspension setting though. But I know lowering the rear tire pressure should get more tire to the ground.

I noticed .535 reaction time, what is a perfect reaction time considered, I know I have heard it before but I don't remember.

I've run the same time on my 01 R1 but my MPH was 7 MPH faster. 10.35@ 137 mph. lowered, no strap and a 180 lb rider

I think a perfect reaction time is 0.500. Then anything under that is a red light foul. But could very from different tracks. Hey FastazzR1! Can you think of any reason why I am not getting much out of my top speed?

Are you spinning your tire when you launch? I'm guessing your hitting the rev limiter before you change gears. With your 60 foot you should be in the nines. my best time is a 10.3 but my 60' is only a 1.9. If your not spinning your tire don't mess with the pressure.

there are 2 types of tree's 500 bracket 400 pro 500 tree each yellow light lights one by one and there is .500 of a second from the time the last yellow lights and goes out till the green light hits on a 400 pro tree all the yellows light at the same time then the green it takes .400 from the time all the yellows light till the green comes on last year my first time at the strip with my stock bike no lowering no nothing my first pass was 12.5 @124 2.4 60ft after 5 passes I ran a 11.5 @128 2.1 60ft My weight is 220 6'1 i think with 5 more passes i can get in the 10s my goal was to go out there and get better each pass no pop a big wheelie and loop my bike :hellobye

It sounds like your hitting the rev limiter. at what rpm are you shifting? and what's your altitude where you race?

How much does strapping the front down help if you dont have the bike lowered?? Cause I wanna drag race my bike and still race it at a track day too...

FastazzR1
05-13-2003, 03:16 PM
It helps in trying to keep the bike from wheeling. it will still com up but the strap just makes it harder for it to come up.

for every inch you lower the bike front and rear you gain a 10 th of a second, let say your running 10.50's stock if you lower the bike 2 inches all arround you should be running 10.30's.

The front is strapped down with a Schnitz strap. OK, I am probably asking a stupid question but I just don't know the answer. What exactly does it mean when you say you strapped the front?!?!?!?!?

Use a strap to compress the front forks... Where do you place the strap???

Isky
05-13-2003, 04:55 PM
its a special strap that bolt's on the front brake calipers upper bolt and the strap goes up arround the the neck of the frame in betwwen your gas tank and the upper triple clamp.

ratedXXX, well it is obvious by looking at that timeslip that if indeed it was a gixxer1000 putting down that time, the rider does not know how to handle a horsepower beast. i can take off in second and still run faster than that if i wanted to. my bike: 2002 gixxer 1000 mods: yosh ems, full yosh rs3 race only sys., bmc air filter, strapped front et: 9.74 @ 145.6 60': 1.68:rock :machinegu R1

gxxxer, cool. 152 mph would be pushing it. i still should be running a lower et with 140 mph. just got the bike custom mapped. it was suffering in the mid range and hurting the launch. little more seat time and it should go 9s.

Does anyone know how to figure out the correction for altitude, weather and all that other shit that can change your 1/4 mile times from different regions in the USA? I started this post and have a stock 02 R1 that is lowered and strapped. Just ran her again this weekend and got down to 10.213 in the 1/4 mile. I think I can improve with more practice at launching. HeyGIXXER1000! Can you take a pic or scan your slip and post it so that I can compair my stats with yours. (60', 1000', 1/8 mile. E/T, mph) Everything that is on a slip! I will take a pic of mine from Saturday and post it up!

hey, Rated-XXX you won't really be able to compare times with the gixer. They have a longer stroke and lower center of gravity. The gixer is better suited to dragrace. In its design the R1 is not ment to dragrace! That being said with alot of seat time you should be able to run 9.9? on your stock set-up. Straped all the way down in the front. And you may want to slide your fork tubes up in the triple clamps 1.5" or so. With a 3" lower in the rear this will just about put your fairing on the ground. The bike will still want to wheelie but will be easier to ride.

Quick question... I am geared down one in front and up one in back with slipon(Mirage pipe), Graves stacks, pcIII and moded air box. Bike feels really strong. I really need to get a Dyno a custom map done soon. Last October at LACR Drag strip I ran consistent low 11's and high 10's with just the slipon. I want to hit the strip here soon and may look into strapping the front end down. (WARNING!!! Stupid question ahead) Just wondering has anyone ever started out in second gear just to keep the front end down. Front end gets real light real fast now.
