Alright, I mastered 1st gear wheelies (all the way to red line), but now I'm just starting to try 2nd gear, mostly stand ups. When standing, I try to bounce and pull up on the bars. The wheel comes up a little, but it also turns right away (NOT good). So do you think that I should just concentrate more on pushing down on the handle bars and then crack the throttle? Also, what do you think about shfting to 2nd while up in 1st, is that much harder? BTW, I've been cutting the gas off and on at about 7-8k rpms. Is this the right range, or maybe higher? Thanks for any help!

Nude Rider, first off congrats on ur 1st gear wheelies:rock , I was practicing 4 an hour last night on a back road and couldn't keep it up 4 more than 3 or 4 seconds. Whats ur technique, seating, rpm's ur at when u whack it, after u whack it do u move 4ward, position of ur palm and wrist b4 u begin.......etc.

I found it easier 2 hold it up longer when beginning from 5K rpm's instead of 4K. I mean it comes up either way, but 5K was easier 4 me 2 hold it up, even 4 a mesely 3 seconds.....:cryin

I just wanna wheelie this bitch already:mad:

2nd gear are easy.. just accelerate and give a nice even tug in the bars and she will fly.. umh wheelie.
Same with 3rd gear.

Try clutching it up in 2nd.. just be careful so you don't get too much lift.

Sometimes when i trick with the R1 I clutch it up in 1st gear and shift to sencond really fast, I'm @ 30mph in 2nd gear and wheeling.. :rock

1st gear is too nervous btw, too much HP to control on the throttle.. better with 2nd or 3rd.

I keep hearing that you should be able to powerwheelie it up in 2nd, but like Nude mine only bounces off the ground for a hot sec. I can get 1st up at just over 4K but not up to the balance point yet (still learning that. not enough nerves yet ) So my question is: can you powerwheelie the '02 in second or do you need to clutch it up? Trying to learn if I need to do wheelies in 1st or 2nd gear.

R1@150 I feel your pain!

I got it to come up in 2nd while sitting anyway. I was running at about 7-8k rpms and dropped the throttle a good bit then really whacked it back on. It finally flew up, but it was night so I didn't even try to keep it up that long b/c at night it's hard to see what cars are cops. Then I tried the same thing while standing and it barely came up and my handle bars turned almost all the way to the right:iamwithst

R1@150@alltimes, as for in first it's REALLY addicting and easy:rock Now that I found "the spot" it's like automatic. Not sure if you ever tried on another bike, but on my F3 I would rev it to 7-8k rpms, roll of gas completely, then gas it HARD. I do sort of the same thing now except everything requires a lot less effort. I cruise at about 4-5k rpms, roll off the gas a little, then gas it a little fast. The quicker you roll back on, the quicker it will come up, so just add more throttle bit by bit untill find what brings it up smooth. Also, once it's up and you start to come back down, gas it harder and at least save your forks and land smooth..........this is found just like the take off, keep gassing it harder and harder on the descent until you find what brings it back up to a spot that requires little throttle play:cool:

Sorry so long but 3 out of 4 finals are done, last one's Saturday so I'm :beer & "where's the smoking smiley"

Swedie, I was studying ur latest video and U make it look so easy, but here is my question. Correct me if I am wrong but when ur starting ur wheelie in 1st ur just using the throttle, not the clutch(as per ur latest Vid). Then U immediately shift into 2nd gear cuz like u said 1st is way 2 nervous. I think i'm goin 2 try this technique 2nite cuz I feel like holding a wheelie in 2nd is gonna be much easier, but I wanna pick it up in 1st regardless. Also Swedie, U said u clutch up in 1st, why would u do that if ur bike is gonna come up @ 4K rpm's anyway? One more question, while doin a sitdown wheelie, on the balance point, is ur view forward blocked by the front of the bike or can u still see ahead. I am trying to find a referance point 4 myself so I can get 2 the balance point safely, U know what I mean Swedie? How tall R U BTW? Muchas Gracias.............:thumbup
