I was on ebay last week and saw the vega monterry chrome blue/white silver helmet for $59.99. "What the heck, " says I, " it is snell/dot certified, and I could always use a spare helmet that fits." I currently have a Shoei TZ1 (small), and my spare/wifes helmet is a HJC CL12 (medium, tad to big for me).
So my new Vega shows up yesterday and I took it on a slight jaunt to the gym, then around town for 30 minutes afterwards on both freeway and side roads. I know that I still have not had it for a long time and have not put many miles on it, but here are some thoughts so far:
a. saw 3 guys (Harley rider who does not wear a helmet, R1 rider who is always geared, and a Interceptor rider who always wears a helmet) I know at the gym who ride and all saw the helmet. They all thought it looked cool, especially the blue chrome.
b. It is louder than the Shoei, but actually quieter than the HJC. I used to own a HJC that fit me, so I am comparing it to that, not her HJC which is slightly too big on my small melon.
c. It feels heavier than the Shoei, but not by much.
d. It has better ventilation than the Shoei.
e. Construction seems adequate, but not the fit and finish of the Shoei.
f. and finally, my wife said it looked like the other two helmets we own.  So do all of those shoes you own dear!:2bitchsla
My personal opinion is that I think the Vega is a good spare lid or is a good alternative for those on a tight budget, and would recommend it to others. Some type of lid is better than no lid.
Also, got to love ebay. Bought the Shoei TZ1 brand new for $189.00 and now the Vega for $59.99. I got the stealer to throw in the HJC for her when I bought the bike.
Ride safe!
