You will need a shorter kickstand.

If you have lowered or are going to lower your bike then you are going to need a shorter kickstand. Today I went to the used cycle parts shop and found a used R1 kickstand. Tomorrow I'm going to have a welder cut two inches out of it then re-weld it back together. And, HELL no I am not going to spend $165.00 on an adjustable aluminum one. How's $20.00 and problem solved. Yes you will need a shorter kickstand if you lower the front and rear properly.

I was told that the metal used to make the kickstand is hard as hell and will work fine. I will find out tomorrow and get back to the forum.

if the guy is a good welder, should be no problem how do you think all of the sections of your frame are held together?

Yes I know; however, some metals cannot be re-welded.

i have 2 kick stands that are cut and welded. one has held up for 1 year so far and the other for about a month. i can go out to the garage and snap pics if you want??? i have one lower r6 for the ms and just lowered an R1 for the strip. 2" is quite a bit. if you lower the front and rear 3" you will need it just above the little bar that sticks out.

Be careful when removing the stock bolts that hold the kickstands in... The R1's are notorious for braking those bolts when taking them off and on...! They must be lock-tighted to the max.....

A small shop a block from my house had several 1960's BSA parked outside in the middle of complete restoration. One of the mechanics was cool enough to cut and weld the kickstand for a six pack of ice cold beer.

One inch removed from kickstand is not enough. My bike has a rear lowering link and front lowering straps. I need another inch taken off the kickstand in order to keep the bike from falling over. So, cut out two inches if you are going to install the forementioned parts.

It took me about 45 minutes to cut my kickstand to the corect length cutting 1/8 at a time until I took out 11/16" and welded it and filed it smooth. looks just like factory and works great. much better than $180 adjustable one.

I am having a problem where the kickstand's screw post is holding up my gearshifter and not allowing me to shift. I have tried to reposition a few things but nothing has worked so far. You can see where i swapped how the collor is positioned on the screw. Any ideas?

Well it looks to me like you have a few options, I would either take off the end of the spring flange and maybe thread it and put a short self locking nut onto it. or i would heat up your shifter and bend it out a little or you could heat and bend your kickstand. hope that helps. taking your shifter off and bending it would prolly be the easiest.
