Just thought I'd give my 2 cents on this thread. I've only owned 2 bikes in my 3 years of riding sportbikes. A '99 kawa zx6r and a '02 R1. Man, I love both of these bikes for different reasons. Of course, the 6r was my first baby and holds a special place in my heart. I had to watch someone drive off on it when I sold it to buy my house. Well, I was so made that I had to sell it, I had to match it with something better. What better than an blk/silver R1? Well, my old 6r was a great bike with lots of power, but good for beginners, which I was. Now that my skills have improved, partially because they must with an R1, I feel that the R1 was a great choice. It has very smooth power distribution across the rpms and keeps getting stronger as the rpms climb. Its amazing how much acceleration power is there even at 100mph. I thought the 6r engine had a beautiful sound. Especially at higher rpms. The 6r had a much wider tank, whereas the r1 has a narrow, bored-out tank, which I like, since it makes me feel as I am one with the bike. You definetely sit over the steering wheel on the R1 compared to the 6r. The wheelies also are much easier on the R1:). Well, thats about all I have. Look, It really isn't a matter of what bike is "better", its really just a matter of finding a bike "you" feel you love the most, and just ride the hell out of it. Be safe.
