Well...Muffin Man wanted one and since I just did mine not so long ago, I thought I would write this.

The process is fairly easy.

First, all you have to do is to remove your top tripple tree. you don't need to remove your clips ons or anything like that.

So...look right on the top tripple tree. You will see 2 little black caps. Remove those caps with a screw driver or something sharp. Just becarefull not to scratch your top tree.

Now you will see two allen bolts. Remove those. Those allen bolts hold the clip ons to the top tripple tree.

now.. look on the side of the clip ons. You will see another allen bolt on each side. Those bolts tighten top tripple tree to the fork tubes. Loosen those bolt up. There is one on each side.

Now... remove the big nut right in the middle of the top tree. Once you remove it, there will be a metal washer.. remove it also.

Now you can carefully remove the top tree. Slide it out carefully and try to "hang" it somewhere.

Now, you should see two locking nuts covered up by a little piece of "washer/lock" looking thing. Remove it. Now...grab a tool, or you can use screew driver and a hammer.. and ligtly start tapping the BOTTOM lock nut. Remember, you want to tighten it.. so RIGHTY TIGHTY, LEFTY LOOSY...keep taping it untill its kind of tight... now, do thereverse.. un-tight it a little bit.... move your sterring side to side and check if its not biting...Is it going and then stopping? or is it all nice amd smooth? If it bites....loosen it a little more.

now, even out the top locking nut with the bottom one. You will know what I am talking about once you see it. Trust me ... this is piece of cake...

Once you have it all even, put back the "tighting" thingy on :lol and just put all the stuff back on...

Have fun....

Its realy easy to do it. Once you open it all up, you will know what to do.

Muffin Man, if it wasn't raining so damn much and you wanted to make the hike out to Athens I would be more then happy to help you do it. Not sure where you live but I work out in Suwanee area and could stop by after work also if you needed any help.

I'm about to try this myself tonight. Could someone tell me if you do need to have the frame supported under the engine or if you just can take the triple off with the bike freestanding on kickstand? Thanks. - Shane

You have to get the weight of the bike off of the front wheel in order to do this properly. A front stand under the forks wont work. So it's either a steering stem stand or a car jack. I remove my lowers, put a piece of wood between the car jack and the headers and raise the front (with the rear on a stand too) just enough so the front wheel is off of the ground. After you think it is tight swing your bars back and forth and check for binding. If it is good set it down and you are good to go.

will it hurt the bearings/steering head if you dont do this?

and isnt it bad to put that much pressure on the headers??

I dont think it will hurt them, but supporting the front end takes the weight off of them so I guess that makes it easier to tighten them. Also, you can check for binding when the front is off of the ground.

It doesnt hurt the headers, thats why I use a wood board to dispurse the pressure. I have stainless headers but I'm not sure about titanium ones.
