well, I don't know if you guys saw the "General" forum, but I posted about going down today on Banner Grade. :( Not cool. I'm okay I guess but the bike and myself are banged up... I don't think I'll make that track day Bill. :( However, my frame sliders safed my bike's arse for the most part. However, I have scraped elbow, knees, bruised left ribs and left calf. :( Anyway, the post is listed in the General forum. I posted the pics there too...oh, well, I guess I could post the pics here too. LOL http://www.R1Demon.com/SandT/palomar/ Have a good one guys and gals... Mat

I'm sorry to hear about it. It looks like it could of been a lot worse than it was. I was up on Ortega yesterday when a rider went over a cliff, and it didn't look too good for him. Glad you are okay though!

Hey Viking, Was that the guy on the green Kawi??? with a white van/SUV there all messed up near the canyon wall? I saw that...we were on our way out to Juilan (down Ortega) when that must have happened. I think they were actually getting him from down off the cliff (at the bottom) when we finally rolled around to the bottom. NOT COOL. There were 3 fire trucks on scene when we rolled by. I'm just glad I didn't end up doing that...wouldn't have been fun at all. Thanks guys...I'm glad everything wasn't worse too...but I guess sometimes it happens...just next time I guess I should slow up or totally make sure I'm set or not ride tired or something...then again, sometimes accidents are accidents...I'm sure I'll learn from this, but I don't want to not ride canyons now cuz of it. I did get up and after I was sure the bike was safe and I was okay and such...I did have to ride back home and did go through the twisties again...but I probably didn't go as fast as I did earlier, but I was still laying the bike over...so I guess that's good. It sucks going down because it seems like everyone thinks you're a squid cuz you went down...but oh well...to me crap happens and I'll learn from it and not do it again (well to the best I can anyway). Cya later guys, Mat

Aw Mat... that SUX, man :( I'm just glad you weren't hurt too badly, and that the sliders did their job. I know what you mean about riding canyons, bro. Going down just makes you want to avoid them for a LOOONG while  Sorry it'll affect your track attendance too... believe me, once you've been on the track, you'll never want to push it again in the canyons. Hope to ride with you soon, amigo. Take care, and let me know if you need anything.

THanks man... Well, we'll see what goes. If I have the money and can throw on a new set of Intutive frame sliders by the time that track day comes around, then I still might go. I've been interested now in going to one since talking to you and one of my other friends that went the same weekend you guys just did. I'll still ride the canyons, but I'm sure it feels safer on the track because you don't have the drop offs, canyon walls, oncoming traffic, etc... However, we'll see. Hopefully I won't be sore by then and maybe have the money, but might have to wait till the next one.

Sounds good. If you can't swing Saturday July 26th. then we'll be back again on Saturday August 30. Trust me, you will never hang out with a more supportive, positive group of folks than the guys I'm lucky enough to call riding buddies. I'll PM you my cell #... lemme know if you can come out on the 26th, at least to check out the action :yesnod Later, Bill

Yeah that was it! It's hard to see something like that! It's a good thing that you still want to ride. I've heard of too many that go down and then walk away for good. Do you still plan on making the July 19th ride?

Hey there Bill... Well, I just PM'ed ya...I can probably make it on the 26th to watch, but can't ride. I might still be sore by then, plus I won't have the money. Howevvvveeerrrr....I think you can most likely count me IN for the August 30th track day. By that time I'll have the money for the track day and suit rental. :D Plus, I think hanging with you guys on the 26th of July and watching how thigns work and such like that will help me out prior to actually going to the track day on Aug. 30th...just keep me posted on that one! :D Viking... Yup, I was there and we saw that one...didn't see him go over or anything, but one of the guys riding with me saw them trying to fish for the guy over the cliff. :( Not good...then later the same day I go down (but on Banner Grade, not Ortega). Ya, I'll keep riding. I might be very cautious for a little while because I'm sore and it's in my head (yes, I do keep seeing what happened), but I'll be fine. I've crashed on my MX bike enough to know that I have to get my arse back on so I keep doing it. Otherwise if I walk away now, then it'll be all over. I don't want to do that. I like hanging out with riding buddies and enjoy the riding itself... As for the 19th...if i don't have a photo shoot set up that day, I'll be riding. I don't even know if that's still going on, is it? I know it kinda died after the forum went down...so I thoguht everyone abandoned that ride...but I could be wrong, but I don't think I saw any new posts on it. I'll try to make it if I'm feeling up to it by then...only cuz it's a far ride and I'd hate to get in the middle and be too damn sore and miserable coming home. :(

Hey Mat, sorry to hear about your mishap, it happens. I know how feel about going down and feeling like everyone thinks your a squid. I went down last weekend, and have not posted on the forum due to embarassment. or just really pissed at my self. I was riding with a new group call Barf ( bay area riders forum ). we got stuck in the worse harley traffic I had ever seen. in the few weeks before this I have been wanting to move onto the tracks as I have been way more confident. anyways we were all experienced riders, and after we got away from the harleys it felt so good to be in the open in the twisties. my mistake was riding like a new a road when I did NOT. got caught off guard a little and took a lefty slighty wide. then I saw gravel all over the right side of the road. my brain rushed through so many things I should do to recover or tighten my line. I froze man, I did nothing, when I felt the bike slide out a little I jumped off. too soon I think but I was worried about the hillside. I hit the ground with a good blow to my left shoulder. I broke my collar bone clean through. no scrapes or scratches though ( gotta love leathers ) the R1 hit the hillside in the front and then spun and hit the rear ( I saw the whole thing never took my eyes off the bike ) she got pretty torn up, looks all cosmetic though. it road 100 miles home, not me though. i'm ok just sore for awhile. haven't been down in 6 years I was pretty depressed. Only been riding twisties for the last couple of years, since I left the chicago area. oh well bike goes to the shop tomarrow. I'll post pics when i get my film cam developed. and to the guys and gals from barf, great people to ride with and were a lot of help in the crash. we got out with no police. it just pisses me off cause I new better, way better. crap could sombaody please :2bitchsla

I hear ya man and it's good that you're okay. I think I broke a rib or two. I'm still pretty sore. Can breathe okay, but if I try to stretch or reallllly breathe deep on purpose it hurts. Sorry to hear what happened...I guess it was just our weekend, eh? Hehehehe. Well, I am glad to see you're nto seriously hurt and as everyone has said so nicely to me...the bike can be fixed...you can't. Hang in there man..I heard it happens to the best of us. :D Cya...

dude late reply but from the look of your pics, you came out quite all right. I would call that a good crash, because a) you're still alive and all body parts are still attached and well. b) your bike does not need major repair, besides scrapes here and there. Crashing at palomar is not hard to do when you ride at a decent pace, believe me I've done it too, and although not a cool thing to do, it is an inevitability...that's why I have backed off the pace alot in the canyons. Don't feel too down is what I am trying to say, look at the bright side, it's time to customize....:yesnod John

Hehehe..thanks John...I appreciate that. Ya, maybe it is time to get some new fairings and do a custom paint job on them, eh? And keep my old fairings for the track days? MUHAHAHAHHAA :fact Hehehe...well, I agree that it wasn't a bad crash. Could have been way worse. I figure this might be a sign saying, take it easier in the canyons, and go bust some arse out on a track instead! Hehehe... :yesnod So, I think I might try that. I can't go to the track day (to ride) on the 26th of July up at Fontana cuz of a lack of funds, but the next one I think the guys (BRBJackson and crew) are doing is August 30th and I think I'll be down for that one. Thanks for the encouragement though! :hellobye That's what I like about this forum..always good people. Cya, Mat

You know, it must have been a bad day cosmically for red r1's. I went down on Mulholland going towards the Rock-Store. I was 3 miles inbound and had a nice long straightaway. I came into a corner, leaned the bike, hit some sand/gravel. In my panic, I stood the bike up and grabbed brakes! My wisdom had me getting high sided as the change of direction and launching up into a mountain. According to people who recreated it, I was launched 25' up the side of the mountain and rolled down. It was your basic 75 degree face full of rocks and dirt and other fun stuff! Needless to say, the bike is toast. It tumbled and missed me by a foot. Somehow, I have a big hole in my right knee cap, some road rash on my left leg and some bruises throughout. I also chipped a bone on my middle finger left hand (teach me to wear a wedding ring!) And to think that I was considering wearing full leathers that day instead of jeans and a jacket. Well, all I can say is that my Dainese equipment held up well! My helmet of all of two days is not wearable, but it did it's job. As my wife says, she thinks I did it on purpose to get an 04! Well, for those of you that think you are superman, just remember you are not. Good luck and keep it on both wheels! dave

Hey there Dave, Sorry to hear that man. I'm glad you came out of it with fairly minor injuries, but I'm still sorry to hear. :( Ya, must not have been a good weekend for red R1's. :( Well, as you know we do have the faster colors, so that might be part of it. :p Well, I had to lighten up the conversation some way, eh? Hehehe... Seriously though man...I'm glad you're okay. The bike can be replaced. Ya, it sucks, but it can still be replaced. Unfortunately I won't have money for an 04, so I'm just going to keep my 02 and enjoy it...for now :crash Take care man and hopefully you feel better and I basically did the same thing, but I hit the rocks after I stood the bike up with the brakes like a moron. :2bitchsla
