BlueDevil 07-09-2003, 07:09 AM Well I have always ridden 190/50 in the rear cause its what came on the bike. But I decided to go down to the 180/55.
Im riding Pilot Sports (as always) and have to say thumbs up so far on the change. It feels a bit more nimble and easy to roll over from side to side. They are still prety new so I havent hit it hard yet. Ill be at the track tomorrow so Ill report back on what I think of the change in relation to the track.
Now for U Bling Bling ers this is probably not the way to go. It looks really small on that R1. I guess cause Im so used to seeing the huge 190. But sure enough U dont miss the extra tire.
What R your thoughts for anyone who made the drop? Like/ Dislike?
R1Jim 07-09-2003, 08:14 AM done it and like it (BT012ss) but it is worth mentioning that it may invalidate insurance if you crash and anyone notices as it is not recommended fitment
Borealus 07-09-2003, 08:29 AM When i changed my rear to a 180/55 M1 i noticed a big difference. It is like a new bike. It leans in quicker and wants to stay there just begging to be pushed harder. were as the 190/50 seemed like it took more effort to keep it leaned over. with the 190 i frequently would run wide on the exit not so with the 180. So for me the 180 gust gives me a warm feeling so i can push myself a little harder. This is probably due to the 180 having a larger contact patch the the 190 when leaned over. As you can probably tell i am happy with the change. Just my .02
BlueDevil 07-16-2003, 01:24 PM Ok I hit the track and took er easy for about 5 laps. Got em hot and let her rip. OOOOOWEEEEEE I like. It is very nimble and I like it much better in the S turns. On an average r wide open turn I didnt notice much but in the tight stuff much better!!!!
Big thumbs up. If U R a track rider and or canton rider and were thinking about it......Do it. !!!!
:rock
Shrike 07-16-2003, 01:42 PM What about the best of both combined? 190-55 .. :hellobye
rounded as the 180-55 and big surface contact as like the 190. combine that with a supercorsa sc2 compound and it's the bomb :rock
:yesnod
BlueDevil 07-16-2003, 01:46 PM Got a buddy that has that and it looks like he is ready for some offroading......... Looks a bit big but makes sense
Y2KYZF 07-17-2003, 08:40 AM I did it and could not tell the difference on the street or track. So stayed with what the factory installed.
O2LiquidSilverR 07-18-2003, 12:31 AM anyone running the new 190/55????

How is that?:bs
BlueDevil 08-05-2003, 05:45 PM SO I noticed my 180 is getting destroyed alot faster than the 190. Any reason or am I just getting better?

He means as the 180-55 compared to the stock 190-50, the 180 is more round all around so it has more contact.
Although when you're using the 190-55 you will have a tiny bit more contact then the 180-55, hardly noticable. But the 55 in either 180 or 190 is a way much more comfortable feeling compared to stock 190-50. It tosses around more fluid and your corner tip in is cleaner. Try it out when you get the chance, you won't change back again :fact
BlueDevil 08-06-2003, 02:04 PM Ill agree with Shrike. I wont go back to 190 or the 50.
motopsyko32 08-06-2003, 02:06 PM what did you do with your previous tire? does it still have life left?
BlueDevil 08-06-2003, 02:09 PM No I was WAY over the use it should have had.
motopsyko32 08-06-2003, 02:12 PM <---needs stunt tires
R1ZOOM 08-06-2003, 02:29 PM I'm taking my old tire off in the next couple of days Moto. It is a Dunlop D207RR 190/50. It is showing some white threads on it. I have a Dunlop D208GP in a 180/55 configuration sitting in the garage to throw on it. I wanted a 190/55, but don't have the money right now to spring for one.
If you want the used up D207RR you can have it, you just pay shipping, but it's pretty shot.
motopsyko32 08-06-2003, 02:31 PM Does it have at least 1000 miles left?
R1ZOOM 08-06-2003, 02:43 PM No way, I'd say 200 at best
motopsyko32 08-06-2003, 09:54 PM no thanks.. shipping will probably be like 40 bucks..
Red02R1 08-15-2003, 07:13 PM going to a 180, will if throw off your speedo??? how about 190/55???
if so how much????
BlueDevil 08-18-2003, 06:08 AM I dont kinow any documentation of that but I havent noticed any difference in my speedo at this point.

Reading this simple post is enough for me to try it out mate.
thankyou heaps..
for some reason your posative words about the change to a 180 have changed my mind and i am very eager to get one asap...
My cousins 2003 R6 hold such a good corner that it feels better than my 03 R1 and makes me wonder about my ability at times.. the damn thing just loves corners, no effort is needed.. i wonder if its the geometry or just the tyres... i duno to be honest.. I know its gotta be the 03 R6's geometry a lot but the tyres play abig part to don't vthey.. hehe
;)
180 here I come and a 180/55 M1, they make t5hose do they.. ok then thats what it will be then...
;)
cool am excited now..
;)
BlueDevil 08-18-2003, 06:21 AM Yep they make em in the M1's and U wont regret it for sure.
I to wana know about the speedo, and if its going to be upset at all... I can't see how though..
;)
BlueDevil 08-18-2003, 06:52 AM The diameter is what makes a dif and making a 55 instead of a 50 means it should remain the same. I would say it would be off more than it already is with out a yellow box. My guess
R1DER 08-18-2003, 07:00 AM I went to a 120 on the back, damn it turns into corners quick now....
Worth a mention that this also invalidates you insurance, not because it's not the recomended tyre size but because it looks so damn stoopid.....
:p
stan UKR1rider 08-21-2003, 07:55 PM All the guys with R1's i ride with use 180's on the rear and you'll never see a 190 on an R1 on a racetrack here either. They were fitted because Ducati commissioned the size for the 916..I don't know of anyone who's gone back to fitting 190's after using 180's...If you're worried about it looking a bit "skinny" or if the speedo's out a little...what on earth are you doing riding one in the first place?
Bawshogg 08-22-2003, 10:38 PM 3 tenths of an inch taller. Woooow.

:no
Again I say...bunch of poo! I switched this last time to a 180 Corsa...my bike ate that sucker like....well..you know!
Just had a fresh 190 installed! I did not notice any of those special traits....describe here!
What I do know is that rim size may have something to do with it! The latest Sport Rider test the 001 and on the duck they put the 180...on got 20 laps or so! Said it was due to rim size made for 190....
Mine def. had weird wear pattern(all track use @ Barber)!!!!
:butt
boatramp 08-22-2003, 10:59 PM didnt try a 180 yet but im going to.but i can tell you to try putting a 110/70/17 on the front.it made a big difference on my bike.:riding
