thanks Maxxym 04-27-2002, 05:33 PM good question... I would like to know some stuff abotu the suspension...
I weight 180 and I am 5'11
I don't know what my suspension settings should be either. I just ride on how it came from the dealer.
what would be the advantages of adjusting the suspension???? Capa 04-27-2002, 05:44 PM im 5 11 and 175lbs.
I've noticed when I hit some bigger bumps it will buck me off the seat just an inch or two. Is that right or should i soften it up? MukksR1 04-28-2002, 07:40 AM Congrats to all that have asked about suspension. It's the most important aspect of going fast. Skip the expensive exhaust and jet kit mods until you have properly setup your bike for riding style and weight.
The R1 (speaking from experience with 2000 model) is softly sprung and lacks rebound damping from the factory. I won't ramble on because everyone rides differently and what works for one may not work for another. I'd suggest getting two -three friends over to set your baseline sag on the bike. Before turning compression and rebound adjustments you NEED to set your sag first. If you're new to suspension, order "Suspension for Mortals" by Max McCallister at Traxxion. it will help take the mystery out of suspension vocabulary and give you some true hard facts for setting your baseline "race sag".
Here is a simplistic article on suspension vocabulary http://home.flash.net/~rdframe/SuspensionGuide.htm
and will be a good starting point for improving your situation. I never figured that small adjustments could make such a huge difference, but it does! Remember to make small adjustments and test the results before making too many changes. It's much easier to understand what your bike is doing by using the above link as a guide to pin-pointing what could be the cause.
Result - After investing $1300 in the front and rear, my bike is rock solid throughout each range of the corner and handles like a litre bike should. If you think your bike cannot be improved, you are misguided and missing out on the greatest improvement one can make to their laptimes. Good luck and remember to record all baseline settings and changes made. Feel free to email me for a simple spreadsheet I used to record baseline settings. Enjoy! It has lots of useful info from members of this forum.
Jasper and Maxxym thelink will help you heaps.
Capa the link will also help, but if the rear is spitting you out of the seat, back off the rebound. Start at 5 clicks out fromt all the way in. The rebound setting is whats affecting you, not compression or preload.
:thumbup Maxxym 05-10-2002, 06:03 PM Capa! I have a same problem! Everytime I hit a bump my ass just launches all over lol
I don't ride on tracks or anythingl ike that. Just doing some rides though the park and things like that. I never messed with suspension and now comming to the idea, I think I would like to adjust the bike JUST FOR ME. hehehe | |
