Well my first trackday ever is coming up Aug 4th. I am super excited, but I have some questions as to the setup of my bike. First, It is mandatory that I tape the lights, blinkers, etc... Is there a "special tape" I should use for this, e.g. a tape that will remove easy? Second, I weigh about 180-190 with all my gear on, what tire pressures do you track wizards suggest I start with? I will be using new (scrubbed in M1's) Third Is there anything I'm forgetting?!? I have my water wetter, Will remove the fuses for the lights, changed the oil. Your input is much appreciated. Cheers.

Plain old Duck tape or electrical tape should work just fine. Just get some "Goo Gone" to remove the residue when you are done. I am no track pro, but I use 34/32 on the street and 32/30 on the track. Anyway, just make sure you run a few pounds less than you do on the street as your tires will heat up ALOT more. There will be many opions on tires, but I personally would not run street tires on my R-1 for the track. Especially if it is going to be really hot. I did a track day last week on my 600 and the M1s were starting to get real greasy after about 4-5 laps (it was 100 degrees temp outside which was a major factor). My buddy who was running the M1s on his R-1 binned his bike pretty bad when they let go on him w/out warning. He was complaining prior to this that he was sliding pretty bad after a few laps, but kept pushing it anyway. On a different track under different conditions, they may have been just fine (I have heard of many people successfully using them on the track). I'm just saying that my personal experience says spend the extra $100 for race tires. It sure would have saved my buddy a $5k repair bill. In any event, if they start to slide on you don't keep pushing harder and harder. I guess it also depends on how hard you ride as my buddy was pretty much lapping everyone on the track until he went down. - BA

Thanks for the input BPA. I will definatley reconsider the M1 choice. It will probably be a very hot day at the track. (Thunderhill, CA).
