yes, how to polish headlights and not how to polish the frame!!

The headlights on my 99R1 are in bad conditions (gravels on the highway), so ....if someone could help me....

I've polished my windscreen and helmet visor before using 2000 grit sand paper followed by novus plastic polish. There are 3 steps for the plastic polish. If you do all 3 the headlights will look like new.

Sure. I should say that I used the following procedure on my windscreen not on my headlights. I don't see any reason why it should be any different though. I think they are the same kind of plastic or are at least similar.

1. Wet sanded with 3M wet/dry sandpaper to get out the heavy scratches. You may need to use something more coarse to get out the heavier scratches (like 800 or 1000). Just be careful not to remove too much material or to create a local depression.

2. Wet sand up to 2000 grit using plenty of water (ie. 1000, 1500, 2000).

3. Buff with Novus plastic polish step 3 using procedure on bottle (basically use a clean and soft rag and lots of elbow grease).

4. Buff with Novus plastic polish step 2.

5. Buff with Novus plastic polish step 1.

that Novus stuff is amazing....

I used their Fine Plastic Scratch Remover and that thing took all the swirl marks and scratches from my plastics. Especially on the lower triangle fairing where all the rocks hit....it's nice and white now. Just like new.

TRUST ME ON THIS
before you try using the above methods just try this 1st.
just use normal high quality car polish cream and then buff off.
thats it!

i have done this many times on my lights, my screen and all other plastic surfaces like my mobile phone window,upvc doors and window frames,house phones , even the fcking plastic bath comes up like new.
no more talk just try it.

you can use plexis as well, it was developed for the canopy of fighter jets, it restors it perfect, comes in a spray bottle 2 sizes all black with blue lettering outlined in white, a little goes a long was , just a quick burst across 1/4 of the light and then rub your arm off small circles and a clean rag, use one of those red mechanics rags if you get too much on.

EH!!!!!!! LISTEN UP!!!!!! I have done this on my headlights, because i had two bad chips on them. Now i have worked at a body shop for several years so I know how to water sand and buff. I tried this on my2001 R1 and to my surprise I really screwed it up. THESE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A VERY THIN PROTECIVE LAYER ON THEM, AS SOON AS YOU TOUCH IT WITH WATER SAND PAPER IT BURNS THROUGH IT. you can buff it all you want after that but as soon as you turn on your lights it looks like CRAP....TRUST MEEEE. Been there done that LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE.

If they are really bad,you may want to consider putting one of those decal kit over them...I had the "bloody eyes",and they are off...I prefer all black.

I put mesh over mine to protect my lights, but with other bikes I have wet sanded with 2000, used a buffing compound and then either crest or gleem toothpaste (no gel) it is great for getting out very small scratches, bugs, or tar. Finish with plexus.
